I went there multiple times pizzas are excellent, i tried meatzza and veggie bothare great. Fried fish was good as well. The beers are refreshing. But in my opinion chicken wings were not so great.

I suppose that this is one of the few off-resort pubs in the area, and it enjoys business as a result of its relative monopoly. I was impressed with neither the food nor the service. At lunch time, there were about 8 tables occupied, and one employee who functioned as server, host, and bartender. It took a long time to order, receive food /drink, and pay the bill. I was hoping that being off-resort would be an improvement from the lackluster options and service on-resort, but this spot did not fulfill our hopes. Then again, it’s one of the few places around so it’s not like you can just walk out and go to the next place. They know this.

I don’t get the high ratings for this place. Jim G. and I had fun, but that’s because we were playing shuffleboard and observing some very interesting locals playing darts. The shuffleboard and darts seem to be the only reason to come here, unless you’re staying at the resort and you need food and nothing else is open, which likely seems to be the case for some of the diners. It was pretty dead, but it was also around 8:30 or so. Other than the wings, there wasn’t really a lot of menu options for those of us trying to eat low-carb; not their fault, really. Service was just ok; sometimes our waitress was super attentive, other times absent. At one point, one of the bussers nearly stole my beer while cleaning up. It’s not like there was just a little sip left, either. I had about ¼ of my beer left! I had to seriously monitor my glass after that! The air-conditioning was either non-existent or not really working, so it was pretty hot! They did have a big fan on, but it was not sufficient. Other places on the island that are lacking in AC at least have lots of doors/windows open for a breeze. Our breeze was just from the fan. Our rousing games of shuffleboard and the guys playing darts was the best part of the night. Go here for that, but eat before you arrive. And, watch your beer!

Service: 4 stars Food: 3 stars We were looking for a casual dinner in the area and Unilocal led us here. It has a laid back pub vibe. Service was prompt and waitresses were very friendly. For dinner we had the japaleno poppers, chorizo sliders and fish tacos. The food was generally underwhelming. It definitely won’t be the best meal you eat on the Big Island, but the prices and vibe are major. Would come back for HH/drinks

The pizzas were very good, especially for the area. Each pizza is $ 12 – 15 for an individual pizza. The salad was plain and incredibly expensive for a plain salad-$ 14 with no meats or a large amount of goodies. Casual atmosphere with a pretty lackadaisical staff. I’d come here for happy hour because $ 8 pizzas are a deal in this area.

Pretty good bar food. We went here after a long flight and ordered beers, appetizers and dinner. The jalapeño poppers were homemade and very good! My husband got the fish sandwich and it was excellent, the pizza was ok. They had a good amount of beers tap as well. We had excellent service here, speedy and attentive!

A hidden gem among the resort golf course. If not for Unilocal or someone telling you about it you’d likely never find it. Has a local pub feel to it. In fact there were some locals here during happy hour for sure. Super casual. Wide open bar and dining area with tables only. Shuffleboard in the back corner of bar. Very small happy hour menu. Does the trick. We had 2 orders of sliders, cheese pizza. And some fries from the regular menu. All came out hot and cooked perfectly just as promised on the front of the menu. Simple, uncomplicated, fresh. Our server was a total dingbat with no personality. Waited forever for a second order sliders because he didn’t put the order in. We might have stayed longer and had another MaiTai($ 5 during happy hour) and more food but we got kinda bored with our servers lack of interest. Wouldn’t hesitate to return again for happy hour or even try some things on the regular menu.

We came here during happy hour and The cheeseburger sliders and Moscow mules. Both were great! Pizza was also on the happy hour menu we just didn’t order any but looked delicious from other people around us ordering it.

After few nights at some classier restaurants we needed to take things down a notch and this hit the spot. They’ve got 20+ beers on draft including a couple on nitro, plenty of interesting things to choose from. The pizza wasn’t mind blowing, but solid. Happy Hour is from 3 – 6 every day and includes a few beers for $ 4 each, and not just the standard domestic crap. HH also includes $ 8 cheese or pepperoni pizzas, $ 2 sliders, and a few other items. Will definitely be back next time we’re on the island.

The service was great! We had the jalapeño poppers and they were okay. I was expecting a little more pop to the popper, but other then that they were tasty. I had the wedge salad with seared ahi on the side which was ok, but it’s pretty hard to mess up a salad… there was only three tomatoes on the salad so that would have been a bummer except I don’t like tomatoes too much anyway so I wasn’t complaining. All in all it was decent food for decent prices with nice staff! Two things to remember: 1.don’t come here if your looking for a super healthy meal, it’s mostly bar food with cheese, fried everything and sauces everywhere . 2. If your in the service industry check them out on Sundays! They’ll hook you up:)

Big, open restaurant with plenty of food and drink options on the menu. Food is pretty good, and decent value.

Go for beer, shuffleboard, sports on the many TVs, and their wings… I’d skip on the rest of the food options.

Right around the corner from the Hilton and just across the street from the Marriott, this place is something of a seedy hidden gem. We ended up here because we couldn’t get a reservation anywhere else – and that proved fortuitous. The whole family enjoyed what we ordered AND there was a nearby shuffleboard table to play on. That allowed me to entertain at least one of the children while our food was being prepared — not that it took very long, mind you. Now, to be fair, it was a bit of a bar atmosphere and they feature predominately appetizers. But it’s an ale house, eh? Prices were quite good considering our alternatives. Would definitely go there again.

This is a good alehouse with a variety of craft beers and a nice menu. Food: I shared two 12 in pizzas with my teenage kids along with the Wedge. The pizzas were very along the lines of a thin crust European style. We had the Italian Stallion and the Meat Lovers. The Stallion looked like it was short on meat but as we dove in with greedy hunger we all agreed to was awesome. My wife ordered the Mushroom Steak but, alas, they 86’d steaks and so she had the salad with chicken. It’s too bad she has an allergy and can’t eat pizza. Beer: a multi-page menu of beers says a lot. I tried the coffee porter and was not disappointed. Ambience: my he room is much like a Sports Bar with plenty of screens and multiple games going. In the background I can hear Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley singing«one love».

This is a late-night place in the Waikoloa resort area. While most other places close at 9, this hidden gem stays open a bit later. Live music at night. And tasty food, regardless. The first time we came, it was because they were the only restaurant that was open, and our options were limited. But we enjoyed it so much that it became one of our«go-to» places. If you have a sweet-tooth, be sure to try an off-menu item. Order their Hard Root Beer, and two scoops of their Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream, to make a very memorable Adult Root Beer Float.

Wonderful staff, really lovely BUT why so little amount of them??? Our food was great, burgers, stuffed jalapeño and pizza but the wait was sooooooo long, had to go to the bar to get drinks long after we sat down and even then it took sooooooo long! We even has the bus girl apologizing and there was need for her to do that, she was so gracious. Owners, your staff are amazing, your food is great, why are you so TIGHT! Pay more staff to work your restaurant. Oh, 3 stars for lovely staff and ok food, hate rating underpaid, lovely staff, apologizing for bad service of which they have no control over.

If I had reviewed this establishment last October I probably would have given it a 4 star overall review. But this trip I had a few issues. This is an affordable place to eat and drink in Waikoloa. This is where we stop when we just want a quick bite. The pizzas are pretty solid. On this trip we ordered… Romaine Wedge, which was pretty good, but I wanted to add fresh fish and was told not until 5:00, maybe they were still out fishing? Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza which was also pretty good What I really wanted was a burger, and for some reason, they only offer sliders. Too much bun and not enough burger if you ask me. Sliders but no full size burgers? Okay. The other issue is that they have many drinks on their menu that include ginger beer, yet they were out of ginger beer the two times we stopped in. I love my Fever Tree Ginger Beer:( We do like this place and will be back.

Located in a rather wealthy Waikoloa Beach Resort enclave, Tropics Ale House is a good option if you need to watch a game or have a diverse selection of brews, but when it comes to the food, which is more or less all that matters in my book, there’s room for improvement given the price point. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? If you’re needing some sport and brews reminiscent of a standard sports bar back on the mainland, Tropics will grant you some familiar reprieve. There are plenty of TVs, abundant seating for groups or individuals alike, and servers imported from the mainland who will bring out your food relatively quickly. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about really. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I can fully understand price fluctuation based on location, but the prices at Tropics are, plain and simple — too high. Beers will run you near the cost of entrees, and given that my three small fish tacos were $ 18.00($ 6.00 each), that’s not necessarily a good thing, although I can appreciate their selection of brews on tap. After my meal I was still quite hungry, which, given that this was a sports bar, really shouldn’t be the case having shelled out $ 18.00. No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? As you might be able to tell from the picture attached to this review, these fish tacos were pretty weak. Store bought and bland flour tortillas housed little pieces of fried fish that were grossly overshadowed by mediocre lettuce morsels, some generic sauce and a few other veggies here and there. I ate each of them in about two bites and had forgotten about them before I finished my beer. I might have been a bit more appeased if I’d paid something more shy of a $ 20, but I didn’t. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? If I absolutely had to watch a game with an abundant quantity of beer selection? Maybe, but probably not. No Star Granted.

It’s in the affluent Waikoloa beach resort area, so you better have $alad to drop. Lots of options for international beers, except that there aren’t enough local Kona beers to choose from. Booooooo. Anyway, the wings were crispy and the sauce was on-point. This spot is where you can find all the«seasoned» rich white people that golf. Seriously. Mahalo.(but get your Kona Brewing game up, yo)

Hubby had been driving for quite some time, and my duty was to find a place that we could grab food quickly and check into our hotel. Unilocal to the rescue!! We were pretty tired to eat inside the restaurant so we ended up ordering pizza and jalapeño poppers for takeout. It’s location is in waikalola village past kings market and not to far from the Marriott hotel. I looked at the menu briefly when I called it in. We walked inside and was greeted by a sweet hostess. She told us our order was coming out in a few minutes and so we waited patiently. I had ordered a wake and bacon. It consisted bacon, pepperoncini, red onion, and a sunny side egg over red sauce. The second pie was a meat lovers which is self explanatory. For an appetizer after reading raving reviews on jalapeño poppers, I needed to order it. It was stuffed fresh jalapeño, Panko crusted, spicy cheese, with a side of chipotle ranch sauce. The hostess brought us our food in a timely manner and we left satisfied. Once we checked in we opened our boxes and grabbed a slice. Well… It was ok. My dough felt like rubber. I kept chewing and chewing for it to get into smaller pieces before i swallowed. The flavors tasted a bit bland even with all the toppings of bacon, pepperoncini, and egg. The jalapeño poppers were great though! They were steroid huge and in one bite it was spitting out hot cheese. The chipotle ranch complimented very well as a dipping sauce. Well you can’t always get a winner when it comes to pizza. I’m still looking…;)
