Oh. My. Gosh. #4 combo — Tropical with macadamia nut on the bottom! Top — you order at the counter on your left. Be patient, the person that takes order is also shaving ice.

I was skeptical when my gf brought me in, but I left a believer. Ate the tropical with mac nut ice cream and it was excellent. The syrup was higher quality than most I’ve tried. Tasted homemade and not like corn syrup or grenadine like.

This place is really great for shave ice it’s clean and the prices are reasonable. The old Joe Joe’s on the main highway is exorbitantly high priced. It’s taken over by new people which is no surprise to me. We’ve been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Nice people, nice service, good product, reasonable price

So tasty. Favors way better than others and the ice cream is a great addition. Lots of other places only have ice w syrup. I don’t know what’s the authentic way, but it was great

Horrible customer service. No one greeted us when we walked in. There where two workers. The young lady working the register was more interested in counting her coins then to help customers. Like we where bothering her. Wish I got her name.

Never been kicked out of a place right at closing! No respect… and definitely not the way to do business! Never EVER going here again!

I see Unilocal started an entire new thread for Jo Jo’s Anuenue Shave Ice after it moved to its Waimea Road location. Here’s my review from 2 ½ years ago on the original thread: Original Jo Jo’s has moved. I have updated the business information w/Yelp, but let me tell you how to find the new location. As you drive into the town of Waimea from the east, turn right at the First Hawaiian Bank. Ahead of you to the left you will see the little green building that houses Jo Jo’s. There are a few parking spaces in front and a few chairs outside. Inside there’s a table w/4 chairs. The place is 2 or 3 times as big as their other place on Pokole Road. When we arrived there were people sitting out front eating their shave ice and the shop was empty. We were helped by a friendly young woman who also gave me their new address and phone number. I ordered my favorite, #4, w/mango, guava and lilikoi atop macadamia nut ice cream. I added akuki beans, which were good. Alan didn’t have anything because he doesn’t eat sweets and didn’t relish the idea of brain freeze even if there were no-sugar-added syrups. By the time we were ready to leave the shop had filled up. It’s clear from reading the reviews that some of the reviews posted here are for the Jo Jo’s on the highway. That one is smaller and darker. This place doesn’t have sticky floors or surly workers. Although I didn’t see them, the woman who was helping us told us about nasty reviews that had been posted complaining about poor English skills, naming the workers involved. Jo Jo is a special ed math and ESL teacher and hires some of her students as helpers. Let me say that if you can’t be patient and kind to people whose English skills aren’t topnotch, you don’t deserve to eat the best shave ice in Kauai. Go somewhere else.

We tried another shave ice place near poipu beach. Lets just say that place left us wanting and searching for more. We asked around with some locals who pointed us in this direction to this specific JoJo’s. There’s another JoJo’s apparently that was the original location, but this location is with the original owner. Story goes she sold the first location so she could finish school, became a teacher, and when she wanted to buy it back, couldn’t. So she opened a new one. Anyways cool story And apparently she still teaches at the local school. Now how is the ice? Seriously awesome! I personally am mot a fan of shaved ice period because i feel its just ice and coloring so i went with the taro snow with azuki beans. Weird combo you might say, but it was pure heavenly deliciousness. The rest of my family ordered carious flavors of the traditional shaved ice(5 orders total) and they could do nothing but gush about it. This place put the others we tried to shame. Service was friendly and personable. I felt like i was talking to a long time friend. I promise you can’t go wrong here folks. They’ve got this down to an art and science!

Best shave ice we had on Kauai, hands down. Flavors were more defined than other vendors and the macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom was a perfect touch. Worth the stop if you’re heading to Waimea Canyon.

This is owned by the original Jo Jo. She sold the other location, but the owners never changed the name. Excellent shave ice!!! Friendly service!

Solid shave ice, a friendly and patient guy, and a reasonable set of flavors. Heavier on the syrup than I usually like, but well within the normal range. We did a small with pineapple, guava, and papaya. This is just a half–(or quarter-) block off the highway, but that makes it feel much more like a small town center; lots of fans make it a bit noisy inside, but fine. I’ll probably ask for«light on the syrup» next time, but this is one of the better shave ices I’ve tried.

Pretty good shave ice but way too sweet. We liked their yummy but pricey shakes and macadamia nut ice cream. The combo of syrup in the shave ice gave us a funny throat twinge from being too sweet. Also long wait time.

The best shaved ice hands down!!! This place is a really small shaved ice place with only one table that seats 4 people. I had the avernue shaved ice that consisted of(if I remember correctly) strawberry, banana, with vanilla ice cream on the bottom, and there was one more flavor that I can’t remember at the moment but it was the best!!! I ordered number 3 if that makes it easier. Their flavors melt into the ice and eating the vanilla ice cream with is the cherry on top. If you’re ever in kauai, make the trip to waimea cause it’s worth it.

Their shaved ice is really refreshing! The best part is that theres ice cream in the middle. Jojos portions are quite large though. So make sure you share(: unless you’re a shaved ice lover. Then by all means
