The service is truly a mom and pop store. The staff remembers your name and what you’ve purchased. This puts the larger chain stores to shame.

Ancient Latin quote: «Repetitio mater memoriae!» Translation: «Repetition is the mother of memory.» Nii [1] SUPERette is a place in Waipahu you Nii-d to remember! [1] The Japanese pronunciation of the last name Nii is «NEE-ee.» In life, there are things that you want… and there are things that you Nii-d. When in Waipahu, you Nii-d to visit Nii SUPERette. It was one rai-Nii Saturday and I finished playing in a golf tour-Nii in Kapolei. My partners were Nala-Nii and her husband Bar-Nii. Bar-Nii is an… attor-Nii and graduated from Kala-Nii. It was a rough day for me because I had a pain in my k-Nii. I was having a problem k-Nii-ling. I was in ago-Nii. Bar-Nii said: «You want to eat something uncan-Nii? Ever try the fried taro mochi balls called „carioca“ at Nii SUPERette in Waipahu?» Nala-Nii said: «No …ho-Nii!» I said: «I won some mo-Nii in the tour-Nii! We should go visit Nii SUPERette! My treat!» Bar-Nii said: Nii SUPERette is a pink building located next to Papa Johns on Waipahu Street; across from Hans L’Orange Park. Val! Nii-dless to say; you absolutely Nii-d to visit Nii’s. I felt this Nii-d to visit Nii’s; so we made our way to Nii’s. It was sun-Nii in Waipahu when I drove into the Nii’s parking lot. My first impression was: «the outside of Nii SUPERette doesn’t Nii-d repainting.» The sign on top of their building is Nii-t but the store is uncan-Nii-ly unimpressive. I got out of my car and started walking to the entrance when I saw something shi-Nii on the ground. It was a shi-Nii pen-Nii. We walked in the store and this ti-Nii clerk named Jen-Nii asked: «May I help you?» If I had to guess, Jen-Nii was not a gran-Nii and definitely had a nice… fan-Nii. It was just something I noticed! I scanned that place and this supermarket has a little bit of everything. They got can goods! They got poke! They got Nii-dles and thread. They got parsley; which is good for your… kid-Niis. They got cabbage for bun-Nii-s and carrots for po-Nii-s. They got cold cuts like… bolog-Nii. They even got ma-Nii pallets of chicken, pig and koi food. But one thing they don’t have is a-Nii …chut-Nii. Bar-Nii the attor-Nii said: «Over here ho-Nii! You got to get these fried taro mochi sticks ho-Nii. They only sell these on Saturdays.» I heard what Bar-Nii said to his ho-Nii so I got some for myself. I paid the cashier named To-Nii and started walking to my car. This is another thing I noticed: To-Nii-s fan-Nii was not like Jen-Nii-s. To-Nii had a huge fan-Nii. I looked on the ground near my car and guess what. I found another two pen-Nii-s. But these weren’t shi-Nii pen-Nii-s! This parking lot had ma-Nii, ma-Nii pen-Nii-s! I was standing outside my car and Jimmi-Nii cricket, I couldn’t wait. I took one taro mochi stick out of the package and took one bite. It was like I had an epipha-Nii. After that one bite, I began to hear a sympha-Nii of birds singing and got on my k-Nii-s. I crossed my heart, point to heaven and thanked God. The deep fried taro mochi coated with glazed sugar is no phở-Nii. It’s the real deal. I felt like I Nii-ded Braw-Nii to wipe my lips and fingers. Nii-dless to say, I thought the deep fried mochi was extraordinary. I felt the Nii-d to head back into Nii’s and get three more taro mochi sticks. I had to get some for my friend Son-Nii and MY ho-Nii. I think I love Nii’s fried taro mochi like I love malasadas, coco puffs and… mo-Nii. So to all of you that just read this review: «Repetitio mater memoriae!» When in Waipahu, you Nii-d to remember Nii SUPERette. You Nii-d to thank Bar-Nii the attor-Nii that graduated from Kalan-Nii who is married to Nala-Nii; because if not for him, I wouldn’t have found so ma-Nii pen-Nii-s; and I wouldn’t have heard a sympha-Nii of birds singing and met the ti-Nii, Jen-Nii with the nice fan-Nii that is not a gran-Nii and To-Nii with the huge fan-Nii and discovered the uncan-Nii-ly delicious fried taro mochi at the Nii-t little store named Nii’s. All of you Nii-d to visit Nii’s and try the deep fried taro mochi. But be warned, Nii’s doesn’t have… a-Nii chut-Nii!

One of the last few mom and pop stores run by a local. I call the gentleman there Mr. Nii though I don’t know if that’s his name. Very quiet and nice gentlemen. Not mentioned is the fact that he also sells feed for chickens and parrots, along with cocktiel food. Unlike having to buy a huge 10lb. bag, he sells ‘em in smaller 5 lb. bags. The parrot seed is the sunflower and peanut formula, not the pellet type. I notice some stocking up on the 25lb. chicken feeds — and there are so many varieties! Also he sells the food cups for said birds. During pau hana time, this place must be THE beer run place. That’s about the only time that one has to wait a few minutes. But this store really harkens to the old 50 – 60’s time period when the mom and pop were most common and the supermarkets were few. Now it’s the opposite. The interior has not been renovated and I love the old store feel, of decades of being used and lived in. Sadly I don’t think he has meat cutters any more — another dying breed in a small store — and has cases of prepped BBQ and stuff. A good cheaper place than the gas station stores, one can still buy an ice cream cup/cone for way cheaper than those convenience stores. Even though Times Supermarket is less than a ½ mile away, this place I think can hold it’s own. No long lines, no huge parking lot to find a close up spot, no walking around in a huge place. There is something about less is better in retail sometimes. A good place to pickup Chinese and Flipino snack foods. Or to buy just one carrot or green onions. I’m in and out in a few minutes. I hope it stays open for a long, long time.

You could say it’s like a miniature market where they sell drinks, food, pupu type foods, and other stuff. Some stuff are pricey but doesn’t bother me.

It’s kind of like a gas station, so prices are expected to be high. But they do have cheap beer… usually Budlight is what’s on sale. They also sell these huge lighters. My friend got one, and it was massive. Like twice the size of his Kool box. Haha. It’s one way in and one way out and I feel like people forget that a lot of times.
