My boyfriend and I went there today to pick up a takeout menu because he lives a minute away from it and the sushi prices were so cheap and there was a sign for buy one get one free, so we went in and ordered 8 rolls thinking it would be $ 20 based on the takeout menu prices and we were told it was $ 26. When we asked them about the price they said the takeout menus were a few months old and the prices had gone up. None of the prices on the menu given to us was the same, all of it was alot more expensive and they did not mention this when we picked up the menu nor when we were ordering off of it(we were standing there choosing rolls for a good while). There was no apology and basically we were told to suck it up. I felt like I was being scammed. They should not pass those menus out or at least mention that the prices were different. $ 5.25 marked sushi was actually $ 6.95. And $ 4.50 sushi $ 5.50. Needless to say, we cancelled the order and left. There is a wonderful chinese and Thai place a few shops down! And Hayashi sushi 5 minutes away with cheaper and very delicious sushi! Would give golden sakura negative stars if I could. Beware!

My mom and I finally decided today that we were going to try this place out. We both love eating at Kanki and decided to try something closer to home. And as soon as we saw the cook come out to our Hibachi table, we knew it was going to be an unpleasing experience! We walked in and greeted. She sat us in the Hibachi room which look like it had been deserted. Hardly any lights were on and it was totally dead other than a couple sitting on the bar side eating Sushi. There was also a man at the bar eating. Mom and I looked at each other with an odd feeling. I asked the waitress where the crowd was?! And she said not many can make it in time for a lunch hour. So, I took it as that and we glanced over the menu. We both ordered the HIbachi Shrimp. We were waiting anxiously to see how our food would look and taste. We had our bowl of broth, then a small bowl of lettuce w/a ginger dressing. To me it didn’t compare to what I was used to at Kanki but it wasn’t bad. Then the cook came out with his tray. It had 2 servings of shrimp(7 each), a medium size bowl of rice, and a large tray that only had a few sticks Of zucchini, small handful of carrots, even smaller of mushrooms, and a heaping serving of onions. The veggies and rice that were split for two plates are usually served on one at Kanki. He cooked it all together and served us, nothing like what I had expected. The rice was very mushy even though he cooked it on the grill, the veggies were ok, and the shrimp too. Didn’t have any real taste. Very bland. For once at a hibachi I wasn’t able to finish my plate! The veggies honestly didn’t look too fresh when he brought them Out so how could they become yummy afterwards??? Plus, he spilled some veggies on my sleeve as he was serving me and got my shirt dirty!!! Needless to say, we were happy to leave. But for sure I will not go there again. I can cook it with the same taste at home! The drive to Kanki is well worth it!!!

I have to say I really do overindulge when it comes to sushi. I had a ½ off hook-up gift certificate for Golden Sakura I got from G105 so I went with two of my friends for dinner a while back. We were seated in the sushi bar area(the other areas have hibachi grills you can sit at where they cook in front of you), which had a nice atmosphere and, if you’re into the bar scene, they had tv’s on the walls. I’M ON A BOAT! No wait, our gluttonous selves ordered so much sushi, IT was on a boat — I just love the appearance of all the colorful rolls arranged so beautifully on a little wooden boat. I remember we got the Avocado Roll, Friends Roll, Seven Heaven Roll(very pretty!), and honestly about 3 – 5 other rolls that I’m sorry to say I can’t remember. They were all super delicious and I especially liked the presentation of the Seven Heaven Roll with it’s seven different kinds of tobiko arranged on top. If you haven’t been here already, I would definitely try it. The service was great, and the sushi was top notch and very fresh! Sometime I’d like to try their hibachi, because, as I’ve always said, dinner is always better with a show!
