I’m on the fence on how to rate this place. The front of the house service was not there at all, even though they only had about two tops in the whole restaurant. Had to seat my self at the sushi bar then after waiting forever(I allready had food in front of me from the sushi chef) I had to ask for someone to come take my drink order, which then took forever to get filled. The sushi chef was great, very friendly and made some good tasting stuff. The whole buy one get one is an interesting concept I’ve only seen in NC, I have to say I’m not that fond of it realy since you start buying based on economics rather than what you want to eat. Just lower the price and let me get what I want without doing math tableside. Once again the front of house service would be lucky to get 1 star. The sushi chef was the only redeeming quality of this place. And I don’t think that is enough to get me back in the door.

Seriously? This restaurant is a joke. I cannot believe it’s still in business. We have given it several chances, and it has failed each time. We went in tonight with four people to dine, and my husband and I dine out A LOT. We waited for a table, which was not an issue, but when the hostess sat us, she literally threw the menus on a bleach covered table and was like«whatever». We waited for 15 minutes, and no one ever came by to even take a drink order. We have always liked the food here, but the service is ridiculously bad. They should all be fired and banned from the service industry for life. We left without ordering and went to Hayashi and thoroughly enjoyed $ 150 worth of sushi. Don’t waste your time or money. This place is disgusting.

Since moving from Durham and my go-to sushi place to Wake Forest I’ve been hoping to find a new sushi location. I’ve passed by Fine several times now, and didn’t have a chance to go in until last night. OMG — so good! Let’s break it down, shall we? Star #1 — great atmosphere. From the shopping center you wouldn’t think the place would be much, but it’s super cute inside and since I’m a sucker for all utensils/dishes Asian, they have the best little dishes for your soy sauce. Star #2 — BOGO on all of their rolls! I was afraid that was just a promotion done in Durham to ensure a competitive edge with the rest of the sushi places around. This, however, was the cream of the crop BOGO. Normally your free rolls are the cheaper ones, but not here. I ordered two rolls that were $ 11.95 each and two rolls that were $ 5.95 each, expecting to pay for two at $ 11.95. However, when the check came, I only paid for one $ 11.95 roll and one $ 5.95 roll… same happened to my friend I ate with. Maybe our waitress was being nice, or maybe this is just how Fine rolls(no pun intended) — either way, it was super appreciated! Star #3 — Great selection! Because I had my heart set on sushi I didn’t really give the rest of the menu much thought other than a glance, but they have a pretty good selection of everything. The sushi selection, though, was very extensive and the rolls were very creative! Star #4 — Pictures of sushi rolls on the menu. For those of us who’ve eaten sushi a few thousand times now and like to branch out, we don’t really need pictures. But Fine has pictures of all of their rolls(minus the normal everyday ones) on the menu next to the description. While I consider myself adventuresome, I still appreciated the pictures — visually pleasing rolls are always more tasty. Star #5 — Service. While I wouldn’t normally say that this particular server was worth the fifth star as she didn’t really come to our table all that often, I have to commend her on her executive decisions. My friend and I, in addition to pigging out and ordering four rolls each(it is BOGO, after all), ordered edamame for an appetizer(the edamame is super good by the way!). When our rolls came, she took away the bowl of edamame even though there were probably 6 – 8 pieces left. While we were initially annoyed at that, when we got to our third rolls each and could hardly press on to the fourth, we were über grateful to not have the temptation in front of us. Also, when it came down to the bill and we asked for separate checks, she went ahead and split the edamame between our two checks without even having to ask. If I could go back and hug her, I would.

This place is not what it used to be. Maybe it is because we were there late on Friday night, or maybe it is because they’ve got new staff — dunno. However, the rolls we got on Friday night were loaded with rice and not so much in the fish department. Unfortunately the main thing I love about some sushi is the freshness of the fish, and this was really lacking. When the fish is drowned out by wads of rice and spicy mayo, its just not the same. It’s still a better deal than getting your sushi at the grocery store, because the rolls are still BOGO — but the quality is just on par with that now.

I had heard great things and finally decided to try it myself. My husband and I went last week and had a great meal. The menu was extensive, prices are very reasonable. The only negative was that the wine I wanted wasn’t in stock. I ordered the seafood miso and spicy tuna roll, both were excellent. My husband ordered a salmon roll and a seafood udon. He kept raving about both of them. We had been searching for a sushi place in Raleigh that wasn’t overpriced and had great selections. This hit the nail on both counts and the udon was fantastic! To top it off, the rolls are buy one get one free!
