I called because I needed someone to pick up and fill a prescription for me. I’ve never had to do this before, and was in a strange predicament. I wasn’t allowed to drive because of surgery, and the doctor insisted someone pick up the prescription in person. The doctor’s office is about an hour drive away and it had to be picked up before 5:00. I live alone and have no one to go for me, do I found a courier to pick it up($ 75) and bring it to me. That solved getting the prescription, but not getting it filled. Since it is a narcotic, I thought I had to show my ID when dropping it off. This is where Smith Drug comes in. I called to see if they offered pick up/drop off service. The woman who answered transferred me to «Fred.» I explained again that I couldn’t drive and asked if they picked up and dropped off prescriptions… I explained a courier was bringing it to me… to which Fred, in an exasperated tone, asked«well why isn’t the courier bringing it here?» Well Fred — because a) you don’t know me from Adam — I haven’t used your store before, b) I thought you needed my ID and insurance card, which the courier wouldn’t have and c) I was calling to see if you offered delivery since I am home bound… so, I wouldn’t send someone there without knowing the answer to my question! Deplorable customer service with someone who really would have been a loyal customer to a pharmacy if they helped her in a time of need. I don’t usually need the help of others — but I did today — and this was a huge fail. Why would you make a potential new customer feel stupid like that? You hear all these outcries that the big stores are putting the small guys out of business — but when you give one a shot — this is how you are treated? I’ll just call Über and go to CVS.

Seems that there is a chain drug store on every corner, the emphasis in those places seems to be on the latest sale brochure rather than on expert pharmacy services with a personal touch. The owner of Smith Drug is very dedicated and definitely provides a superior service compared to a chain drug store.

When I moved here several years ago there was a lot of talk at the time about large drugstore chain pharmacy errors, so I decided to transfer my prescriptions to this small local drugstore — and have never regretted it. The degree of personal service is unparalleled and could never be found in a chain store. One pharmacist solved a drug reaction mystery that had plagued me for 35 years. No one else had ever caught it! They also have a first class gift store in there with gifts of every type and price & a large selection of very special greeting cards. Nice people, good service.
