THEMOSTAMAZINGMEXICANFOOD I HAVEEVERHAD! I am previously from the south where there is a great deal of Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants. When I moved to Connecticut I thought for sure I would not find what I have always loved to eat. When a friend suggested that I check out Plaza Azteca on what they call«Fiesta Fridays», I said sure, why not?! So glad I agreed to go. The food complimented the drinks perfectly. I had the El Patron and my friend had the Pescado Azteca. We ended up sharing each-others meals so I could try everything. Both platters were prepared to melt in your mouth, I swear! Our server, Silvia recommended to try the Flag Margarita with our meals. She said it made you feel like you were on a beach and I couldnt agree more. Her service was top notch and I will be returning many more times. I cant understand the bad reviews on this website. We expected a wait on a Friday night. That’s normal for any place on the weekend. Seriously folks, stop acting so offended. To make the night even better, we joined everyone in the bar for some amazing music by what I believed to be a latin salsa band followed by a DJ! Who does that??? :D Loving every bit about this place. Highly recommend!

Dinner last night at Plaza Azteca was a terrible dining experience Hard to determine what was worse , the food or the service. Will never return

This used to be my favorite Mexican place. Haven’t been in probably over a year and came last night, it was terrible. First off, on a non-busy Tuesday night(there might have been 6 other tables besides us) service was horribly slow. There were only two waiters working, and our waiter was the assistant manager! We ordered the guacamole, which was good, and both of us ordered the $ 5 martinis which we realized, you get what you pay for. The glasses were only half filled. The Cocotini was ok, though. I then ordered a strawberry margarita on the rocks with sugar rim which was my FAVORITE drink here in the past. They used real strawberries, it wasn’t just a mix. The drink came to me looking like diluted Pepto Bismol, it had a salt rim, and tasted like pure syrup. No strawberries. It was so disgusting I had to send it back and this is something I typically never do! For my meal I ordered the San Jose burrito which was good. BF ordered the steak fajitas which were dismal. The steak was complete rubber and when he asked for cheese and sour cream(which wasn’t brought out with the meal even though he specifically asked during ordering) they brought him a tiny paper bowl of it, like you’d typically pour ketchup in. My bf ended up eating half of my burrito instead. Overall, the quality here has definitely gone downhill. I won’t be returning. If I wanted sub-standard Mexican food I would have went to Chili’s across the street. At least their margaritas are palatable.

Really enjoy it here. Been a few times, and every time the service has been friendly and fast. Tonight I got the Pina Loca, which was real tasty! I would order it again for sure.

I have never had a bad experience here. Food is consistently yummy and drinks are made well — I always get the passion fruit mojito.

The margaritas are great! Went tonight and love the Tina ceviche; however, was told that they took it off the menu. I tried the shrimp ceviche instead and was disappointed. They only put avocado on top vs it usually having guacamole. Also, does not come with grapes, which used to give it a little bit of a sweet taste.

This place used to be really good but has definitely gone downhill in the past few months. –service is ridiculously slow. For 2 people to eat dinner, it should not take 2 hours. Our waitress did not exist for half of our time there. Drinks went unrefilled, chips and salsa brought out after the guacamole, bill took forever… just really slow service. –food is great. It used to be excellent but some of the chicken dishes are bland and the fajitas have been rubbery. –drinks are ok. Margaritas taste like candy instead of alcohol. It’s a good place for Mexican but not as great as it used to be.

Went with a friend the other day, ordered nachos as an appetizer and taco salad as the dinner. The nachos were a mess. The there wet, almost like someone had spilled water on it — they were disgusting. The dinners were ok. A little on the small side and the beef wasn’t drained before it was added to the salad bowl so the shell was also wet and lost its crunch. the meal was just lacking almost like the kitchen just didn’t try. I wont be returning

3.5 I like the atmosphere. Servers were pleasant. Food traditional. I will return to try again. My dislikes… They say they are open on line but closed early. They turned away customers. The last time I was there, with my daughter, I was distracted by a couple smoking vapor cigarets in the restaurant.

My husband and I went for a nice Saturday early dinner… Appetizers: the cheese dip tasted like melted(in the microwave) Land O’Lakes white American cheese(I am being specific because my husband knows his cheese) the stuffed jalapeño’s were burnt and flat, then we asked for fresh guacamole that was spicy and ended up with the most bland tasting guac we’ve EVER had… we sent our dinners back because both steaks were well… WELL…beyond the medium we ordered. In fact, we had trouble cutting through them. Mirka, our EXCELLENT server, is the only reason why we gave this experience two stars. Mirka, you were great, extremely personable and we are sorry that you work there… you deserve MUCH, MUCH better. I’m sure he or she heard about our horrible food, but the manager never came out to talk to us. Mirka was nice enough to tell us that they had a new chef, but clearly quality control in that place sucks because no one checked the food before it was given to us. Oh, and warning in advance… ask the price of the special drinks BEFORE you order them. I left there with a bill that was a little over $ 90 because of the two $ 23 frozen«special» drinks served in a pineapple that I could have made at home and we still had to find another place to actually eat a dinner that we enjoyed.

Came in for a quick lunch. Their lunch menu has changed since I came here last time, but it is still very good. I had the spinach & chicken Enchiladas from the lunch menu. It was delicious. My daughter had a taco salad. That too was very tasty. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. Your wait time is minimal and you have chips and salsa while you wait for your meal. Definitely a good place to have lunch with friends.

Portions are huge as are most of the people eating there. ;) Food taste was good. Guacamole was awesome. Happy place on Thursday with the live mariachi. Loved the service.

Food is decent. Guacamole is excellent but was better when they made it out in the open for you to see and choose your ingredients. Décor accomplishes their theme. Staff is so-so, they don’t seem like they enjoy working there. It gets a bit too loud at times where you can’t even have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you. The shredded pork has good flavor but the rice and beans are no good.

I wouldn’t come back here on my own accord, however I wouldn’t make a stink if someone suggested it. That being said, if I came back, I’d stick with a shot or two. The margaritas were sugary to the point of being borderline undrinkable; this was the first time I’ve ever drank three margaritas without so much as a buzz. Also, would a margarita glass kill you? I could’ve used the salt on a real glass to kill the sweetness. The beers weren’t particularly cold which was a letdown for the people I was with that wanted to enjoy an ice cold beer, but it happens. The complimentary chips and salsa weren’t by any means tasty. though they weren’t bad or offensive, so they were fine to pick at. We didn’t order any food, however the menu did appear to be a bit overpriced for what it was. The food looked fine, nothing delicious, but again, it didn’t look as though it’d be inedible. You could definitely get tastier food at a lower price, but it looked like you’d be able to eat here without complaints, I don’t know how else to verbalize it. I wouldn’t come back based on principle; if I know I can get a more enjoyable meal for a lower price within a mile of this place, why would I return? Service was inattentive at best, we didn’t mind because we were just there to have a few drinks and catch up, but we did have to get up and get our own drinks from the bar when we were ready for refills. This wasn’t an impatient thing, this was a «we were seated and never saw a server again» thing. I’m not going to give them one star because I’ve had worse, but they can do better. The margaritas should taste less like Koolaid and more like an adult beverage, the servers need to be present, and have some frosted glasses on hand for beer. Not rocket science, and it’d make a world of difference.

the food is pretty good if you’re already drunk. seriously, people come here to drink, not eat. The menu is tepid & unadventurous. Most everything is americanized, do you really want to eat a mexican restaurant that has fettucini alfredo on the menu? neither did i…

I had high hopes when I walked in on Sunday for lunch. The place is beautifully decorated… but once we were greeted by the hostess it was all downhill. The hostess never cracked a smile and she looked absolutely miserable. The waitress was pleasant and attentive so no complaints on service, but the food left something to be desired. The guacamole made table side lacked flavor. We ended up asking for our own limes to add to it and added salt. My quesadillas were also nothing special. Not to mention they left me feeling nauseous hours later. It was a disappointing experience. The two stars are for our sweet and attentive waitress Maria. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Oh, yanno for a tex-mex chain they’re pretty decent. I don’t come here looking for authentic cuisine or to some sort of culinary wizardry — I come in on the buy one get one free nights(thanks to the local flyer with coupons) for fajitas and a margarita so I can avoid cooking and I’m never let down. The food comes out unreasonably fast to be fresh they could afford a few minutes to even pretend it was, but then they make guacamole fresh in front of you so it’s kind of hard to dictate what you’re getting the first time you visit. So I’ll break it down: better food and quality than Chilis or On the Boarder but still slow fast food, you’re smack dead in between two authentic Mexican taco places if you’re in the mood for that. We enjoy the bar and the drinks, although not regulars we visit a few times a year and will be back.

Came here for a late dinner on a weekday(close to closing) and was not refused service or rushed through my meal. Complimentary chips and salsa are given, but the chips seem stale. The iced tea(sweet) is too diluted with water and isn’t sweet. However, the main courses look brilliant. The Pescado Azteca consists of mahi mahi with shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, spinach, and roasted peppers in a spinach and wine sauce, served with homemade mashed potatoes, $ 15.99. I tasted shells in a few of my scallops, but the rest of the dish is great. The mashed potatoes are nice and fluffy, the shrimp are jumbo sized, and the sauce goes well with the mashed potatoes. They also have a variety of cheesecakes from Cheesecake Factory. I had a slice of Banana Foster for $ 6.99, and even though the cheesecake looks great on its own with swirls of caramel all over, it was served with fruits(strawberry and mango) and a side of whipped cream with a mint leaf. Beautiful, but I didn’t care for the fruit because they weren’t sweet. Dim lighting, booths and tables available, good service, and has its own parking lot.
