good selection but poor customer service. didn’t id. didn’t ask if i was credit or debit for my card. didn’t ask if i wanted my receipt. when received it just had the total and no itemized items. workers rather talk to each other than do their job. at least they are quick. lot has decent parking in terms of getting a spot, but poor lot design can make for a slow exit/entrance. traffic around the area can hinder quick stops. there are quite a bit of shady people ie guy smoking a cig just talking to himself…

Newell Liquors now carries a fine selection of Bulgarian spirits(rakia/grappa) and wines. Cheers!

Excellent craft beer selection! I was impressed at the amount of session IPAs they had on tap. Some hard to find stuff too. Good selection of wine and liquor too. AND the guy at the register was friendly!

This place is the #1 spot for liquor in Walnut Creek! They have a vast variety of different alcoholic beverages and even hard to find items as well. The staff is super friendly and helps you find whatever you need. Isles are easy access/reach and inventory is enormous. There’s also cold liquor available.

Newell has lots of hard liquor on the left wall, wines in the center aisles, microbrews, generic, domestic, and mexican beer in the referigerated. all priced. sticker price faint, stamper needs ink. interesting beer offerings. chimay too, big bottles 12ish. brew: red betty, oatmeal stout(4.99)4.2% –canadian import, not much punch, smooth throughout 3ish stars. on draught: –owner/cashier über cool/understanding i couldn’t read sticker price. –parking difficult in this shopping area. time limits on some spaces.

I’ve actually never written a bad review before, and really thought I never would, but this place was a total turnoff. I recently moved to California from New York and haven’t gotten a California issued I.D. yet(I’m still fairly new and not yet required to get one by law). The owner, I believe, told me they don’t take out of state I.D.‘s AFTER examining mine for nearly 3 minutes. Weird. He rudely told me to go get my passport. I worked in a bar for three years and have never heard of such a place that doesn’t take out of state drivers licenses. Let alone for cigarettes. Normally, when in doubt, you ask for a credit card with the persons name on it or something state issued in which you can use to help confirm that persons identity. I’m pretty sure he makes up these ‘rules’ as he goes. If you’ve never seen a New York State license before, which I’m sure he has, you should have a book on hand with a photo and description of the I.D. cards of every state. Or stop being cheap and get a scanner. I had credit and bank cards to help verify that it was me, as well as my old college issued ID from a SUNY(State University of New York) school, that has my name and photo on it. Total buzz kill. Being a proud supporter of local business, I would much rather buy locally than corporate, but this is not the place. Even after being polite the whole time, I was still met with a rudeness. After asking if they knew a place that carried the Nat Sherman’s I wanted, they sent me to Safeway, which doesn’t carry them at all. Just all around bad vibes. I recommend taking your business elsewhere, to a more community friendly place, where they are respectful and value their customers. Take a look at my other reviews, all 5 stars. They had to be pretty bad for me to give them 1. I wanted to give them zero, but it wasn’t an option.

Not the kind of place you would want to be in if the big one hit. Items of all kinds are stacked precariously high, maybe too high, and the aisles are narrow. The front counter looks like a bunker and you can’t see the register. But if you are looking to grab a convenience-type item or two and be on your way, it’s better than standing in line at Safeway up the street. Lots of soda, juices, energy drinks and water, as coolers pretty much surround the store. Good amount of chilled wine, and I have found a couple hard-to-find tequilas here also.

The store has a big selection, offers plenty of other random things, sponges, toothbrushes, etc. and seems fairly reasonable since there are not other liquor stores around to compete with. The owner is very nice, although that may be because he owns another store in Concord that we used to frequent, so he already knew us when we walked in. As for the«décor issues», I cannot help but think, «Uh, it is a liquor store, not a 5 star hotel.» I mean, are you looking for oil paintings of naked people as opposed to the normal décor of porn magazines and some about tattoos and cars?

To be fair. This store has a good selection of liquor, wine and beer as well as soda and Cheetos(just in case you need a snack). The décor is lacking, translation– don’t touch anything without your hand sanitizer on deck. To boot, the owner was RUDE and insulting. Pass.

I recently checked out this place as an alternative to Jackson’s, but was very disappointed. It’s old, a bit dirty, and the selection is fairly basic and over-priced. I didn’t buy anything… Now called Newell Liquors, formerly Kavanagh Liquors. Nothing special.
