This place was just okay. I probably won’t go back. It’s a hole in the wall tucked away behind car dealerships. I usually like hole in the walls, but the service wasn’t great and the music was 90’s rap, but not mainstream, well known rap. $ 7 for a small jack n coke in a low-end environment wasn’t worth it to me.

One of my favorite bars in walnut creek. Less of a weird crowd than the downtown bars. Kind of tucked away but, good drinks, decent service and kind a cool ambience. Lots of blue. I prefer it over Dans, Tikis, Lucky’s or those other spots.

Koo little spot. The waspiness was strong when I was there but it’s Walnut Creek so it’s expected. Music was good. The dude bar tender with the beard was on his A game. Koo spot to chill with the squad. Probably not the best place to get hella turnt though as I see them kicking you out real quick if you get out of line. Remember this is still Walnut Creek.

If you’re in your early 20s or you’re a college student — this may not be the right bar for you! Me and my friend decided to check this bar out because of the high reviews and we honestly did not know what we got into. They are located in a creepy area where they don’t even have a sign to direct us too. The only reason we were able to find it was because we noticed neon lights outside and took a chance. Once inside, our first reaction was that it was definitely a SMALL establishment, but that may be OK for others as it provides an intimate atmosphere. But for my friend and I, it was definitely not our scene and we didn’t bother staying to order a drink.

The guys that use to own this place were weird, but that goes without saying as a bar owner. I remember constantly getting shit on by the previous owner Jeff, who was«inspiring actor» and his friend Dave, both of whom I don’t know if they continue to work here since I stopped going, because of their attitudes to people who gave them money. Well, that’s not true — I truly enjoyed when Ry and Justin worked there, but they left and I stopped going. The vibe was that of the club house of misfits from high school gathering for one last hurray

Came for my sister-in-laws 21st and a had a blast. People burn trees on the smoking patio without any interruptions. Great conversations were had with some regulars. The music was ehh for my taste, but I’m not into too much electronic music. 3 facts 1) I lost my hangover from last night at 6 pm and I’m seriously considering going back now that it’s 11. 2) The music is loud. 3) The people are different from a typical WC bar. These facts, and more, make me want to become a regular at this spot.

When I searched for a bar/lounge on Unilocal in Walnut Creek, I was expecting something a little on the fancy side since Walnut Creek is known for higher end restaurants and shopping centers. As I was driving to Spoontonic, the GPS guided me to a not so visible building that houses Spoontonic in the back of the building. My sister and I were both kind of weirded out thinking we must be in the wrong area. However, we saw a few cars driving into the back lot as well so we decided to follow. The parking situation is pretty odd. Feels almost like you’re just out in the middle of some isolated warehouses of sort. But once we arrived at the entry of the bar, we were greeted by a friendly bouncer. Inside, you can see a bunch of people in their mid-to-late 20’s enjoying their drinks and a few people dancing on the very small dance floor. The music was more of a 90’s mix, my kind of mix actually. LOL We sat at the bar and asked for two Sprites. Our bartender, Ethan, was very nice and friendly. He jokingly asked«with a shot of vodka?» We were just there to get a feel of the crowd and environment in case we wanted to come back in the future. Ethan got us both our Sprites and told us that our drinks were on him. So sweet! We sat there for a little while and realized that we don’t mind the scene at all. Most of their customers must be regulars because they seem to know all the bartenders. Everyone here are friendly and easy going. We finished our drinks and Ethan looks over and refills our drinks. I guess we won’t leaving anytime soon. LOL We’ll definitely be back!

Spoontonic is a great place to have a stiff drink and chill with your buddies. It doesn’t give off the rough and tumble bar vibe where guys are scumming to get chicks and people are sloppy drunk. That doesn’t mean it isn’t fun! They have a wide selection of alcohol and all of the bartenders are relly nice and smart about their drinks. They add to the fun, I’ve never left without having a nice conversation with one of the bartenders. Come visit me for karaōke now on Thursdays! It’s such a blast :)

The new owner of Spoontonic has done a lot of great things to the bar: upgraded the whiskey selection, added taps for rare and specialty brews, and updated the back of the bar so that it’s easier to see the spirits selection. The place typically has a relaxed vibe, the bartenders are knowledgable about the drinks that they serve, and the patrons are friendly and social. Bartender Ethan knows how to make some great drinks. I recommend trying his Sazerac, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and(if you like spicy like me) The Gran Torino. The new owner, Jaz demonstrates an expert knowledge of all the new and interesting brews coming out of the West Coast, so if you are new to beer, he will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Drive down the section of N. Main St. with the car dealerships/repair shops and you’ll find an Indian food restaurant among these auto establishments. Now drive down what’ll appear to be a steep driveway leading to the back/basement area of this restaurant and you’ll see a door leading into Spoontonic, a dimly lit, black light infused, atomic bowling-esque bar, sans any actual bowling. This hidden«gem» has good drinks — e.g., the Kentucky Mule, a very tasty whiskey variation of a Moscow Mule — for a good price, and it attracts a chill crowd. While there’s no dance floor, the DJ that performs on Friday and Saturday nights plays a good mix of old school hip hop, newer school hip hop, and top 40s songs that typically get at least a handful of people dancing in front of the walkway to the back of the bar. This establishment would honestly be a three-star bar if it was located in the city where quirky dive bars are far more common. I’ll bump it up a star though for bringing some quirkiness to Walnut Creek

I promised I’d return as our first experience wasn’t the most pleasant and we hoped it was attributable to opening weekend hiccups. We are so glad we did. This was one of more memorable meals we have had. Make sure you take the time to learn about what Chef Frank is doing with liquid nitrogen. The Pork Belly and Ahi were incredible. The lamb special was out of this world. Food — Excellent Service — Excellent Will definitely return with friends to share the experience and recommend everyone do the same.

Whenever someone suggest that we go to spoon, they are basically asking«Do you want to black out tonight?» We have a hard time not having too much fun here and always end up drinking too much. I feel that this place is in a weird location, however, I like that I’m able to walk here from home. I don’t feel like I’m in Walnut Creek anymore when I come here, which is actually nice. When my friends first started coming here they thought it was a lesbian bar, but maybe it was just the nights they came? One thing that sucks is that this place doesn’t serve food. However, I have had pizza delivered from nearby pizzas spots into Spoon a couple of times. Always plenty of seating and I’ve always received great service from the bartenders.

In the time I’ve lived in Pleasant Hill I’ve always drove to Walnut Creek for nightlife. Spoontonic has always had a good DJ playing an eclectic mix of music or the jukebox slamming locals favorites. The bartenders are friendly and hipster the décor is hipster and colorful. And the drinks are mixed good. I’ve never had a bad time here with the girlfriend. If your looking for a good place to hang out without the feeling of being raped, mugged or murdered than this is the spot. Weird location, but once your inside you forget about the rest. Great for dates and/or hanging with friends. Not much of a place to dance, but overall a really cool atmosphere.

Pretty good dive bar. We showed up and there were about 50 bikers outside, straight out of Breaking Bad. The bartender was really nice, and very attractive. Drinks were priced well, $ 3 for Buds, $ 7 for Fireball, and I think Coronas were only $ 4. They were playing good music, and even though the bar is basically in the basement of some building, they had a bunch of cool black lights. The black lights gave it an ACID vibe, and along with the bikers, music, it just made sense.

Reading the other reviews leave me shaking my head and wondering if I am the completely wrong demographic(30 year old female) for this establishment. The bar is labeled as a dive but really is a wanna-be hipster bar that some fedora wearing neckbeard slapped together in his mom’s basement. The drinks are weak with a hefty price tag with rude bartenders who are too hammered to care about their customers. 21 year olds probably love this place thinking«dude, it is hidden/underground with black lights and is hella tight!» Guess I’m too old too wanna hang out in someone’s basement.

Atmosphere: cool lounge/bar that is off the beaten path. This is not your typical Walnut Creek bar(there is nothing wrong with that, just depends what you like). I would say this place is mainly regulars. Bathrooms are filled with graffiti, but the actual toilets are always clean which is a huge plus in my eyes. Drinks: the drinks are reasonably priced and have a good alcohol-to-mixer ratio for what you pay for them. Service: this is where they lost some stars for me. While I do understand that part of a bartenders job is to be sociable, the blonde female bartender was over the top. She was over in the corner chatting with some friends forever before finally coming to take our drink order the first time I was here. I have come when the male bartender was working and he was a lot better. Overall I feel like this is a nice place to come when you’re just trying to have a casual night chatting and drinking with friends.

This is hands down the best bar in Walnut Creek, assuming you are not looking for an overpriced, cover at the door, crowded, obnoxious bar full of your normal Walnut Creek yuppies. Drinks are inexpensive and strong, which is always a plus. There is a loyal group of regulars, who are a pretty eclectic mix of people who all seem to loath downtown and want a friendly, more laid back bar. The bouncers are nice, bartenders are great, and the music is always pretty solid, whether that be a DJ with hip hop, a 90’s DJ, or the jukebox controlled by your phone. 5 – 8 Thursday and Friday is happy hour and Sunday is happy hour all night. Essentially, if hanging out with rich white people who pay way too much for a drink and look like jackasses is not your ideal night, and you happen to be in the Walnut Creek area, Spoons is your only choice. *****UPDATE****** I am seeing multiple reviews about the people who think they are«too cool» or the judgmental people at this bar. I have to wonder, who are these people, and are you sure this is not a personal insecurity? I ask for a couple reasons. The majority of regulars are not interested in being cool or uncool, or who is there. If you seem interesting, we might chat with you. If not, we will probably leave you to your own devices to enjoy drinking with your friends, but I can promise you, there is not attempt at cool. As evidence, I offer conversations regularly had with regulars, by me: –Why Twilight is the worst book series I have read 3+ times vs. it is good –If ____________(probably sports star) offered money, would you lick his dick –The merits of WebOS vs. other phone systems –If a locksmith has found anything cool lately –How much people like/dislike jobs –The socks of the bartender –And finally, bar length singalongs with 90’s alternative music, from Goo Good Dolls, to Eagle Eye Cherry, to Eve 6.(keep in mind, this is not while drunk, soberly, groups of 25 – 40 year old men sing 90’s romantic rock-alternative music loudly, and obnoxiously) I am sorry, but these are not people trying to show how cool they are, even in a hipster, ironic, I am cool because I am not cool way. This is a place where a bunch of people regularly go to hang out, not at home, while doing all the same things, simply in a more social setting. If people all seem to know each other, and the bartenders, they are regulars. If they are regulars, say something, they are nice. Promise.

After driving round and round and yelling at our GPS, I finally logged into Unilocal and read the reviews that this place is behind the Indian restaurant. Ha ha ha! We were looking for quick beer and I didn’t want to go into downtown Walnut Creek. I corral ed my husband to going with me so down the dark alley we went. It’s divey and dark inside with a jukebox playing(which I happily went over and chose songs) They don’t have beers on tap — all cans or bottles. Mix of young folks and hipsters. People were really friendly, including the bartender. I was probably the oldest one in there. ha ha ha!

This place is lack for a better word, interesting. I went there last night for a friends little birthday get together. The place is a tad hard to find. It took three times driving down the street and turning around before actually thinking«Maybe it’s down that long driveway.» The place is small but definitely a cool little place to hang out. The music is loud and the place was pretty busy. The décor on the walls was pretty neat. I had two shots and a rum and coke(my favorite drink). The shot’s were good, especially the last one. It was vodka but mixed with something that just made it delicious. The bartenders are nice. The patrons are nice. Just a great place for a get together. I won’t come here alone but if someone wanted to meet up for drinks there again, yeah I’d definitely go back.
