Our absolute favorite restaurant in Waltham. Both the deli and the backroom are incredible. The staff is wonderful and the food is out of this world. Favorites include the meatballs, the spätzle Mac and cheese and the delicious salads, as well as the bread pudding dessert. Seriously could eat there every weekend!

The backroom had a great atmosphere. The waiter gave clear recommendations that were much appreciated. The chicken was delicious– best I’ve had in a long time. The brisket was so-so– nothing special and not worth the cost. The charcuterie was pretty good, but I wouldn’t go there just for that. The veggie sides were quite good.

This place(and the restaurant«next door») is fabulous. Get the BLT! it is to die for! It gets VERY crowded, so you have to be patient. But the food is good and worth the wait

Best restaurant in Boston? Fantastic charcuterie & cheeses and fresh, rotating entrees. The cocktails are perfect. Wine list skews toward red wine and they need more whites. The Cavas are good. Ambiance is really nice– rustic but warm and open and elegant. Service was also good. Take your time and get all the courses.

Visited for the first time today at lunch. You order at the register and seat yourself. It looks like an old-school deli inside. Very clean. I ordered the Katz and sat at the wood high-top common table near the counter. There are plenty of other private tables to choose from. As I waited, someone came around with samples of a spicy salami. Delicious. When my hot sandwich was ready, they called my name and brought it over to me. Very friendly service. This sandwich — the Katz — is amazing: a perfect combination of tender pastrami, sweet and sour pickle mustard and something spicy. Even the side pickle — usually a disgusting, soggy mess that I remove from my plate — was crisp, slightly sweet and heavenly. I will be back.

Twenty minutes to make a sandwich — took two bites and through it in the trash. First I was told the«Beast» was a hot sandwich which is not. Second the beef has this be a month old and it doesn’t take 20 minutes to make a sandwich. I didn’t even want to serve it to the birds! Stop focusing on being trendy and try serving FRESH food.

This and it’s lil brother are the NEW hotness of the area for sure. I’ve been popping in here since they opened and it is always amazing. Sandwiches get pricey, but as a lunch treat you can’t go wrong. Everything is fresh, interesting and amazing.

Modern and hip deli/restaurant with evening dinner as well. Very layback and creative from the vibe, the food to the people. Large choice of cured meats and cheese to purchase is a plus.

Finally made it for lunch! Order at the register(best if you know you’re order in advance) and give your name. They serve breakfast ALL day! Wahoo! I love me some breakfast sandwich for lunch! And they’re mind-readers! After I ordered I realized I forgot to ask for my bagel grilled and was sad. I figured it was too late to ask … But then I hear my name and I look up to see my bagel sandwich … And it’s grilled! So hot, fresh and gigantic! The sausage had a sweet taste to it and the bagel was nice and crusty and of course all buttery grilled, sooo good! I also grabbed the homemade chips which were nice and crispy but wasn’t a fan of the truffle oil(I think that’s what it was). Too bad they don’t make plain chips… Oh and did I mention that during lunch they walked around with charcuterie to try?! Awesome! Parking is hard to find on Moody but there is a lot located across the street at your first left.

This place is shockingly amazing. Some of the best cured meats I’ve ever had, and they do a great job of mixing in a lot of unusual/creative bits while also offering near perfect examples of the standards. Ignore older reviews about the space being tiny – they took over the entire restaurant next door and now have a rather large and swank dining area. Place is always packed though, so still expect a wait if you go during peak times. My only complaint might be that they are trying to do too much with their space – too many displays, too much stuff blocking your view from the staff, which sometimes hurts your service(being noticed). But, once they find you they are quite eager to help. Note: their default on slicing is super super thin, which happens to be how I like it(and everything is so overly flavorful that you want thinner). However, they will adjust per requests. Note on price: We actually find that buying ½ pound of a hot soppressata here, sliced ridiculously thin, will outlast 2 pounds of our backup trader joes option. It’s so much better flavored you need less to enjoy(and as a result you also consume less salt which is a perk)

Went there today. Walked in and was looking the place over when someone appeared from the back room. He said they were working on the place. He said come another day. I said, can’t we buy some frozen products ? He said no. BOGUS!!! Why Bother? Go to the super mkt and buy the same stuff.

So me and my buddy came in on a Thursday night to get some sandwiches. I’ve heard that the dinner service is incredible, and that they have one of the most impressive wine selection in Boston, but I have never gotten anything other than the sandwiches. Just being honest. First I’ll tell you a bit about the atmosphere, then the place itself, then the food. Bear with me. The place looks awesome. First section is the deli. Gorgeous sausages and smoked meats all over this mo-effer. Some of the best meats, pâté’s and cheeses I’ve ever tried. The fridge is filled with an incredible assortment of house made salads, sauces and snacks. I have never sat in the main dining area, but it looks awesome. Now to my particular experience that night. We walked in for a couple of sandwiches, and at first felt a little embarassed, as we were definately underdressed compared to the rest of the crowd. We asked if it was on to sit, because we felt bad taking a servers time for a couple of Sammy’s, where normally a table is spending upwards of a hundred dollars… easily. We were greeted by a manager, who literally could not have been more conforting and kind. Now I have eaten at plenty of high-end restaurants, ranging from a casual to extremely formal feel, and let me just say, this was potentially the BEST service I have ever received, ever. Every need was attended to in perfect timing, water, clearing of course plates, checking in etc. They were so incredibly polite and dilligent, without once being intrusive or annoying me at all, which is really impressive considering how easy it is to tick me off. Having serving experience, I am a harse judge of service, and being completely honest, these guys did a perfect job(and they do every time I’ve been). Icing on the cake, the manager came by twice with gifts. First with a sample charcuterie plate, then with maybe the best onion dip and chips I’ve ever had Now I don’t like to talk about money, and I say this only to explain how nice of an experience this actually was, but we ended up tipping close to 100%. I mean honestly the service was perfect. Lastly the star of the show. The food. One of the best meatball subs I have ever had. I believe they are made of a bit of every cold cut they serve. Perfectly cooked, perfext sauce/cheese/meat ratio, and a fresh, expertly toasted bun. Every sandwich I have had is amongst the best for that respected sandwich I’ve ever had. Recommendations that I can remember; The roast beef, the grilled cheese, the Bahn Mi, the turkey clubish, the italian(particularly omg worthy), the meatball(holy cow and other meats), the cuban, the pastrami. Im not lying when i say every single sandwich Ive had is spectacular. They are a touch expensive compared to your local pizza joint yes, but in terms of quality they truly are a great value. In conclusion, I believe Moody’s to be the best sandwich joint in the GBA. Sorry Cutty’s and La Grossa’s superfreaks, Moody’s reigns supreme. Love u guys :)

Ignore the so called«Elite», as they unfortunately had absolutely no idea what they were experiencing. What we have here is the East Coast version of Boccolone, yet better. Chef Joshua Smith has realized his dream, and has opened up a house of cured meat Zen. I sampled the Pastrami, which was easily as good as Katz’s in New York. Please understand, this establishment makes all of their own meats from scratch. All of them. Bologna, soppressata, hot dogs, kielbasa, artisan chubs, bacon, various pates and other fresh sausages, and most importantly, prosciutto. Yes, they cure their own artisan prosciutto from pigs that they themselves have raised. The prices? Yes, the prices are a little higher than other places that are selling charcuterie that they have not made in house. The prices are also reasonable, and on par with other establishments that take such care and craft in their meat. Looking at their setup, there are easily hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in the professional curing chambers that have been imported from Italy. If you’re looking for cheap(«Elite», maybe you should try Subway next time), this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for the first place that I’ve seen in New England that does ALL of their charcuterie and sausages from scratch, you need to go here immediately.

After taking a red eye to Boston from Southern California and over a hour commute from Logan Airport, I finally arrived in Waltham for the first time. The first thing on my mind to do in this city was to get a bite for breakfast and some coffee. So I trekked over to Moody’s which is located on the stretch of businesses located on the same name street, Moody Street. It was about 30 degrees outside, so the four block trek from Waltham Common after getting off the MBTA bus seemed quite arduous having just come from SoCal and its 80 degree weather. Upon entering Moody’s, I saw a storefront that was more of a deli than a restaurant. There are a handful of tables by the windows and in between the deli walls. There is also a back room that has a more restaurant like setup with a bar counter as well. As for the offerings here, Moody’s has a nice selection of charcuterie like salamis and sausages as well as cheeses. They also carry specialty foods and have a fridge case here full of meat products. In addition to their deli offerings, they have a food menu consisting of mostly sandwiches. They also serve coffee drinks and offer an assortment of bakery goods that are displayed on the deli counter. My main reason for choosing Moody’s was to try out their pork roll breakfast sandwich($ 6). It is served on a warm English muffin with scrambled eggs, two pork roll patties and a spicy ketchup. To warm up from the cold, I also got a large latte($ 3). To start off, I got the latte first which was okay. It tasted it a bit more watery than I would like. But the cup was big and hot which is fine since I just wanted to stay warm and awake after taking a red eye. After a bit, the pork roll breakfast sandwich arrived. I thought the pork roll was going to taste like ham because of the color, but it didn’t. Well at least not any ham that I have had previously. Though it is supposedly similar to a product called Taylor Ham popular in the Mid-Atlantic states. The pork roll tasted familiar, yet different to anything that I have eaten before. I did think the texture of the pork roll was a bit like salami. In any case, the sandwich was savory and a delicious start to my(first) morning in New England. It is a bit surprising to find a place like Moody’s in a quaint place like Waltham as it seems more like a spot you would find in Boston. If you are in Waltham, Moody’s is worth a visit for their charcuterie and meat sandwiches, particularly the pork roll breakfast sandwich.

I LOVE this place! I have tried their Revers’ Ultimate Italian, Carolina Style Pulled Pork, Dan’s Grilled Cheese(minus the onions) and Dave’s Corned Beef. The Revers’ sandwich is my favorite. I especially love the red pickled peppers they incorporated in the sandwich. The Carolina sandwich was also surprisingly delicious. I’m not a huge fan of sweet-ish sandwiches, but holy crap was this good! The Grilled Cheese was good as well, but not my favorite. The Corn Beef sandwich was also just plain delicious. I also highly recommend their truffle chips. They are amazing. The wait for your order can be a little long, but well worth it.

Great stop for lunch or dinner on Moody St! We stopped by for lunch and had the pulled pork sandwich and charcuterie plate. They have a bunch of sandwiches, cold and hot, that sound great, so it was difficult to settle on one, but it was a good choice. I will definitely be back to try others. The sandwich($ 11.50) just comes solo, sides/chips need to be purchased separately. The charcuterie plate($ 12) had a three different types of smoked meats, a pâté, and two types of cheese. It was a good variety. They have a larger menu than sandwiches, to include salads and breakfast items. It’s also fun to take a look at all their different meats they have in the frigs and hanging from the ceiling while waiting for your food. If you can find it, there’s street parking around. Otherwise, there’s a public parking lot nearby, off one of the side streets, that is $ 0.50/hour.

Gahhhhhhhd, meat and cheese heaven. I love this place so much. I come here for breakfast whenever I’m in town. The breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon is amazing. Also, their lunch sandwiches are delicious too. For a «lighter» one, go with the turkey(Cooke).

This place is remarkable… Especially considering it’s rising from the ashes of the once-eternal-dumpster-fire known as «Moody Street, Waltham…» Is it expensive for a sandwich? Hells yeah. Would I rather save a few bucks and suffer a boring-ass sammy? No way. The corned beef sandwich is last on the menu for a reason — she’s the bottom bitch! Absolutely the best I have ever had, it ties Katz’s for quality(tho a very different sandwich overall…) It should be their best earner, fo realz. The truffle potato chips are also phenomenal. My sis had the grilled cheese which she said was fantastic and I tried the Spicy Cuban — excellent. Looks like they’ve expanded recently to include a cool bar and a beautiful open-fire oven. This place is a destination in and of itself, if you can shake the former filthy stank of Moody Street — GOHERE!!!

It’s hard to find places that put the time and effort Moody’s does into their food. House cured deli meats and sausages, house made sauces, pickles and relishes. They have an amazing selection of house made items wrapped to take home. The sandwiches are outstanding. Had the Cuban and the Chef Charles, both were on point. Also had the charcuterie which they had a great selection to choose from. Will be back to try more including the famous«pork roll» as well as dine in «The Backroom» which the menu looks ridiculous!

More than a year later and with an expansion in progress for Moody’s Delicatessen, I figured that this would be a good time to update my review. I’ve since then returned to Moody’s while on a mission to get a variety of cold cuts and cheeses for a post-Christmas party that my wife’s family’s attends yearly. This is a mission that my wife and I take seriously and one that we usually fulfill at Bob’s in Medford. Not wanting to drive that far, and having only a day to get this mission done, I headed to Moody’s instead since I’m a Waltham resident and like to support local businesses. I proceeded to walk-in but it wasn’t until after I stood around for about fifteen minutes that I was finally acknowledged. I explained what I needed to the guy behind the counter alongside my budget and about twenty minutes later, I walked out with a dozen different cold cuts and a few cheeses as well. While slow, the service was much improved since my initial visit although they don’t really smile often and service is still very slow and inconsistent. Quite a few people were standing around simply waiting. It’s one thing to be backed up but another to let people know that they’re acknowledged and that they’ll be taking care of soon. I actually considered walking out at some point after having to wait so long. That being said, the cold cuts were a hit and the cheeses were pretty good as well. I’m happy to see such high quality business strive on Moody Street and hope that they soon become a Waltham institution much like the Château is or In a Pickle. They have a pretty decent selection of cold cuts and cured meats, although their cheese one is still fairly limited. They also have all kinds of baked goods, dips and random other snacks as well. With friendly, faster and more service and slightly more affordable prices, this place would be five stars. But for now I’ll just settle with four since they still have a few kinks to work out.
