What a great find near my home! I have been craving Greek food since my favorite place closed down in Suffern and TADAAH, I spotted it driving by on Route 9 and made an almost dangerous traffic turn across a lane to pull into the lot, I was so psyched. Very simple interior and my chair needed some serious glue, but the menu had all the Greek favorites I was hoping to see. The avgolomono was not as lemony as I’d hoped, BUT much more rich and meaty than I expected, making a terrific alternative. And the pastitsio was very generous and OUTSTANDING. I was so full I actually passed on the baklava(THIS time), though it looked fresh. Opah!

This is certainly a treasure you would not expect to find in a strip mall in Poughkeepsie! Family owned and run, Daughter takes your order, Poppa cooks the food and Momma preps everything in the kitchen. Food is always consistently good. Atmosphere is… well what you would expect in a strip mall restaurant. But the food NEVERFAILS!

This has become a fat kid staple for me. I went there on a whim one night coming home from work and I’m so glad I did. Granted, place looks a little shady in that plaza, and the smell isn’t exactly appetizing(I think that has more to do with the awful puppymill store next door), but their gyro is one of the best I’ve ever had in the area. I brought a nonbeliever with me today to try it and he reluctantly had to agree with me. I can’t speak for anything other than the gyro, but that is all you need. 10⁄10 would gyro again.

Picked up for take out today, i was excited to see a real Greek family running the place and gyro being cut in the kitchen! We ordered Greek Salads and have had better. The olives still had the pits in them and not much veggies in the salad besides lettuce. May try again but won’t order the salad.

This place is very consistent. The food is always hot and fresh. I’m always surprised that its never more crowded, but then again, better for me – no lines or long waits lol! Usually, I travel to Astoria for any Greek food, but this little restaurant serves me well. Its just down the street from my house which is nice. I have had the chicken souvlaki and chicken gyro dinners. The chicken souvlaki is char-grilled to perfection and is moist and juicy. The gyros are always tender and juicy as well. The rice pilaf is always steaming hot and tastes fresh. Tzatziki is very tasty along with the bread as well. And I LOVE their Greek salad which comes with the dinners. Haven’t tried a desert though, but I have a feeling their baklava has my name on it. Seems like a family business. They are always very pleasant with a smile and service is very good. Incidentally, you have not lived until you’ve tried cheesecake baklava, but that’s another place and story! Maybe I can convince them to make it lol

Best gyro in town. It’s a family owned business and they are always very pleasant. We visit or order from here at least twice per month. The décor and ambiance needs a bit of help.

Their food is good but I wouldn’t dare eat inside because this restaurant smells so bad! As soon as you walk in, you get smacked in the face with the horrible odor. It doesn’t even smell like food– it smells like a dirty bathroom! I really hope they do something about this because the smell is enough to ruin someone’s appetite! Gross!

As I said in my first review the gyro is amazing. Since then I’ve tried the souvlaki, the Greek salad with gyro meat, the lemon chicken soup, and the baklava. All of them were extremely delicious. I haven’t had Greek food this good since I was growing up near Chicago, which has a large Greek population. I’m upgrading to five stars. EDIT #2: AVOIDTHEFALAFEL!!! I’m taking that fifth star back. I was so excited to try their«Greek style» falafel. It was absolutely terrible and had little resemblance to real falafel. The texture was completely wrong, it had a skin on the outside and was uncooked inside — real falafel balls are dropped into hot deep fryer oil, and as they fry the moisture inside boils, giving them an airy bread-like consistency cooking the interior while giving it a crunchy exterior. These were patties which were clearly cooked on a grill and were terrible. It is a rare thing when food is so bad that I can’t eat it, but this was one of those situations. The cook either has never actually eaten falafel or has no idea how to cook it, or both. I’m very sad to be giving this feedback because everything else I’ve tried here has been amazing. The falafel needs to be taken off the menu, and I say this out of love. If I had walked in here and tried the falafel wrap before I had tried any of their other delicious and amazing dishes I would have given this place one star and that would have been generous.

The gyros — AWESOME! Some of the best tziaki Ive had in a long time. Not only that, but I showed up after they had officially closed for the night, and they still helped me out. Not only does that go miles in my book for customer service, but it shows how nice they are. Even though I was humbled and apologetic for ordering after they were supposed to go home, I still received smiles from everyone

I had the Steak and Lamb meat gyro here, it was delicious. I didn’t expect to find a good gyro in this area so it was a nice surprise. For the money, you get a huge gyro and tons of meat. I don’t think you need any sides to fill you up. I highly recommend coming here for a quick Greek lunch. Start with the standard gyro, then branch out from there on your next visits. Also, this should be a nice place to use for catering unique food to the office. Enjoy.

I really like this place :) they accommodate my picky food taste very well. I’ve even to greece, and even there I didn’t really like tzadsiki sauce until I had it here; now I la la la love it. And my Greek boyfriend really likes they’re gyros, too. Near the register, they have this display case and they have drinks that my boyfriend and I would drink in greece that I like, which I personally think is cool. It’s also not expensive. The inside is like that of a Chinese take-out place, though.

Gahhhhhh why oh why can’t I just take this family with me to California! This place makes my trip to up-state NY worth while! If it weren’t for them my taste buds would die from utter boredom. It’s been 4 years and I’m still in love. Pork souvlaki sandwich + their Greek salad = still the best hands down!!! Pork is always juicy(not dry & overcooked), yogurt sauce is always spot on(nice & rich! They def. don’t use plain yogurt like other cheap places. They use legit Greek yogurt + garlic + spices), onions + tomatoes= goodness.

Very disappointing experience. Called to order take-out and the woman who took the call seemed very disinterested and impatient on the phone. When I got there, my order was incorrect — I had ordered a chicken gyro and was given a lamb/beef gyro. Instead of kindly changing my order and apologizing, the woman claimed I did not say chicken on the phone(even though I did literally three times). They corrected my order, but nobody on the staff apologized, and nobody was friendly in any way shape or form. The chicken gyro was absolutely drenched in yogurt sauce. The meat was flavorful, but everything was soggy and overpowered by the sauce. Based on the other reviews and the quality of the meat, I’m sure their other greek dishes are pretty good. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing enough to keep me away from here in the future.

Food was absolutely delicious. Probably the best quality Greek cuisine I’ve had outside of a family kitchen!

I can’t believe that it has been years since we have visited Tony’s Gyro and Grill. We visited this Greek place again yesterday and ordered chicken souvlaki and a gyro sandwich for lunch yesterday. They were both excellent. The chicken souvlaki was juicy and the yogurt sauce was delicious. The gyro meat was a combination of beef and lamb. It was very tasty. Both portions were very generous and the prices were very decent. The owners were quiet but friendly. We have also ordered baklava and kataifi to go as desserts. They were both delicious. We will definitely come back more often.

I LOVE gyros and this is the first place in this area that gets them right. The ambience is simple, but the owners are sweet and often offer free desserts. Try the Greek salad… it’s yummy.

I don’t know whats going on with this place, maybe they’ve changed owners? My bf stopped on his way home to pick up dinner, Pork souvlaki for me a gyro for him. Plus tzatziki and spanikopita. My souvlaki was mediocre honestly. The pork was dried out, almost burnt. The tzatziki was still good to me and the spanakopita run of the mill. Bf said his gyro was good so who knows? Either way I was kinda disappointed this time…
