Just got back from here for lunch. Arrived there at 12:30PM. They seated us quickly, but took our order at 12:50PM. The server quickly came back and said that my order«chicken pad kee mao» will not be made with chicken as they ran out of chicken. Who runs out of chicken at 12:50PM on a weekday? Then when I got my vegetarian Pad kee mao, I noticed the noodles weren’t the flat noodles that come with it, instead it was the Pad Thai noodles. I sent it back, and he came back quickly and said they ran out of flat pad kee mao noodles. We were starving this point and we just ate whatever they gave us. My colleague ordered a Red curry(vegetarian because they ran out of chicken). We finished eating and packed his remaining Red curry to go. While waiting for our check, I noticed the patron next to me had ordered the exact dish I wanted, Chicken Pad Kee Mao; and his was correct having both chicken and flat noodles. I asked him politely and he confirmed this. I asked the waiter what’s going on, and he said they just received delivery. We left with our Red curry in a brown paper bag which they packed. My colleague drove, and I carried the red curry in my lap. When we got back to the office, I noticed the bag was dripping and low and behold there was red curry all over the seat I was sitting in. They packed the Red curry in a white styrofoam non-sealable container they would normally put«spring rolls» In. The curry instantly leaked out because as the Styrofoam container tipped, ruining his cloth seats. I had to go to the mens room to clean my pants and it was another wonderful trip to Tru Thai. I’ll pass next time. This is not a made up review, you can’t even make this stuff up!

As I walked in the restaurant, I felt a very relaxing ambience that had set in. It’s a great spot for couples to dine as well as families. As soon as we had came, the waiter seated us and he took our order. As soon as I asked for the iced coffee, the waitress bought the coffee in less than a minute(impressive!) and our appetizer(fried shrimp) was brought in 5 minutes later, it was crispy and flavor with the zesty mango sauce to compliment. The pad thai was delicious especially with the sesame and the red curry chicken was good but it did seem to lack a little kick. The restaurant is clean and well maintain. The staff was very courteous, the guy kept on asking us how the food was which was much appreciated :)

Worst service ever! I waited 15 minutes to even get a menu to order. I ordered an appetizer which never came. The food took more than 45 minutes to come out. You could hear the people around at other tables talking about how bad the service was. A group of 3WALKEDOUT because they got the wrong food. The food was mediocre. You can find better food with better service elsewhere.

The service and quality of food for dinner was not same as what I experienced for lunch a few months earlier. We went for dinner and had a different experience. Waitress was more interested in cleaning the tables and getting ready for closing than looking after us. The food was bland and the roti canai we ordered was pathetic.

Nooooooooo!!! New owners, new staff and unfortunately new food. We should have left before ordering — empty restaurant at lunch hour is never a good sign. This had been my go to Thai restaurant — food was poor — lacked any complexity — and left a bad taste. Service was confused. Might give them another try in 6 months but until then it is time to find another local place for consistently good Thai food.

Had lunch at this place a few times and it was always decent/good. However, when we ordered takeout — turned out to be completely different! Same dish — but completely different taste. The tofu was in really big pieces. It smelt & tasted very different(bad). For lunch takeout, they didnt even include the spring roll(which is part of dine in every day)

Limited vegetarian options. They have sweet peanut sauce in most of the dishes. My non-vegetarian colleagues enjoyed it though. Beware before ordering spice level 5. It is REALLY spicy!!!

I would say 3.5 stars actually. Went here for lunch with colleagues. Ordered the pad Thai which was decent enough. It was slightly on the sweeter side even though I ordered a slightly higher spice level. The fried rice was decent too though it was extremely spicy even though the person ordered a 3 spice level. Definitely one of the better lunch options in the area.

I love Tru Thai for its romantic ambiance and delicious Thai food. We went on Friday and it wasn’t to busy(I made a reservation just in case, but I didn’t need it). We byob’d a bottle of wine to share. My boyfriend ordered the tom kah guy soup and lettuce wraps for appetizers and I ordered the curry puffs. The soup was okay(a little sweet for me, I like more spice). The other 2 apps were very delicious. For entrees he choose the chicken pad thai and I ordered the chicken kee mow. We also split the panyang curry. All were fabulous and we had a bunch of left overs. The curry dishes were my absolute favorite. Tru Thai is a nice relaxing and romantic place, a little out of the way for us so we only get to go once and a while but, we keep going back!

The entrees we ordered reminded me of something you would get from the hot bar at the local grocery store –at best. Green curry was a watery disappointment as was the overcooked and very unremarkable shrimp pad Thai. The only thing that we really enjoyed was the crab and avocado roll. It tasted fresh and and looked great… bottom line don’t waste your time and money.

Stopped in for lunch with a co-worker since we were in the area. This restaurant is located in a very quaint little shopping center. We began with an order of the Spring Rolls. They were 5 fat Spring Rolls served with a duck sauce. The Spring Rolls were greasy and the duck sauce was a bit on the bland side. A bit disappointing. I ordered the Kee Mao with chicken and my co-worker ordered the lunch special. My Kee Mao was very tasty and had just the right amount of heat. Plenty of noodles and chicken. I was satisfied with the portion size for the price. The service was good. Plenty of parking in the back lot. I would go back when I’m in the area again.

I would like to give TRU Thai 3.5 stars, but I’ll round up to four because service was very pleasant, and the owners created a very pleasant, cozy atmosphere here in the unlikely confines of a mini-mall. What is rather different about TRU Thai is that their food does seem to be prepared a little differently from the(many) other Thai places I have been to. Not necessarily better than the others, but maybe a little more ‘homestyle’? The grilled chicken lettuce wraps were delicious, and one order was plenty for two people. Very different from the classic PF Changs dish — for sure. More like fajitas with fresh veggies, chicken, red & green lettuce, and dipping sauces(not quite enough sauce however). The grilled shrimp with pineapple was very good and flavorful. While the shrimp were not huge, they did have a very smoky, grilled flavor, and the pineapple flavor was there, but not overwhelming. My GF had a seared scallop dish with asparagus, and it too was very good and fresh tasting. Neither dish was very spicy — which is not good or bad — just the way the dishes came out. We finished with a mango & sticky rice dessert, which is one of my fav desserts. The mango was just right. Prices here are reasonable, they can easily accommodate a gluten intolerance(as most Thai places can do…) and service is prompt & friendly. The décor & lighting is certainly cozy and warm, and might even be called intimate or romantic, when the place is not filled to capacity. We very happily did not experience any of the problems noted in some of the other reviews for TRU Thai, so hopefully this means the owners have tweaked things to overcome any previous problems. In the Warren NJ area, I would certainly recommend TRU Thai for lunch or dinner. BYOB.

We had the worst meal from here. The Tom Kha Gai soup, which is a Thai staple, was like dishwater. no flavor and definitely no coconut milk in it. The beef Satay was tough and rubbery The Massaman curry again no coconut milk and chicken was rubbery in texture. Both the pork and chicken Pad Thai had no flavor except a burnt aftertaste. Will be going to «Thailand Restaurant» in Clark in the future well worth the extra miles for great food. As with other reviewers staff at Tru are arrogant and nasty. minus 100 best rating

Good value for your money as far as the food goes we usually go for lunch. Service is good. My only issue is that the acoustics are really bad and makes the dining room very noisy. That is probably due to the decorative cavities on the ceiling. The place is pretty busy for lunch. The do add an 18% service charge for parties of five or more.

We had a horrible experience our 1st time ordering from TRU Thai this past Saturday night. We ordered the roti kanai, tamarind duck, red curry chicken and chicken satay. The roti kanai was dripping in oil, the tamarind duck was dry not crispy, the red curry chicken was bland all indications of an off night and we would have given them another shot. However, the chicken satay we ordered was raw — the inside was pink like you would expect seared tuna to be. My 3 year old had taken multiple bites before we saw how raw the chicken skewer was. Who screws up chicken on a stick? We won’t be ordering here again.

So just to put it out there Thai isn’t my go-to or favorite food to begin with but since everone at work goes here I do too. That being said the food is pretty decent. The staff is very friendly/attentive. The food is pretty good as well but they suffer from a quality control issue. Some days the food is amazing… other days meh describes it. I’m not sure if that is due to a differnet cook on the off days of what but I realy do want to like the place. I just want to have the same consistency of the good days!

OK, first I have to admit that Thai isn’t my favorite cuisine. .. but this restaurant is really good! Was taken here for business by my customer, and they had raved about it and it lived up to the reputation. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls for an appetizer, & I had the duck kee mao. .. which was a tasty stir fry of what in a chinese restaurant would’ve been called chow fun noodles. .. . combined with pieces of duck, sauteed with onions & peppers and a nice level of spice.

A solid lunch for under $ 10. The green curry with shrimp *spicy*spicy*spicy luch order was a good choice. All Thai places seem to use the same brand of curry paste«MAESRI»… no one seems to make it themselves, I use the same brand at home, with similar results. served with a salad and a spring roll… The salad was a sad member of the vegatable community… leaves from the deep center of a wilted head of lettuce. scattered about lay mung sprouts drenched in a tasty home made dressing. the dressing was so tasty it allowed me to allay the gag reflex i feel when i ingest less than prime vegetation… the spring roll is like food pornography. small enough and fried so crispy it falls apart at first bite into dust with that pleasing grease viscocity that primes your palate for more. what else can i comment on? the water was adequate and was offered liberally… this place gets packed for lunch… like the best luch business in town packed… oddly it was seemingly occupied by people from india… strange as this is not a predominantly indian town… and this kitchen does not use a tandori in an ill advised attempt at asian fusion. hmmm… now im hungry for indian…

Came for a later lunch on Saturday, and was pleasantly surprised that they serve the lunch menu. It was quiet, but service was friendly and efficient. After taking our orders, we started with the included salad plate(lettuce, cucumber, a slice of tofu, and sweet peanut sauce). We had Pad Se Ew with beef and Chicken Prik King. The Pad Se Ew was nice, but felt a little too sweet, but was full of flavor and the beef slices were tender. The Chicken Prik King came with rice and the curry was tasty and spicy. Thankfully we asked the waitress to confirm how authentic the spice level would be, and it was authentic Thai spicy! Will definitely return in the future and try the other menu items.

We were very impressed by the food, service, décor and value of TRU Thai. The Shrimp Papaya Salad, Chicken Lettuce Wraps with 3 sauces and Chicken Pad Thai were all excellent, enormous – and steals at $ 10. Salmon Green Curry and a rib special were very good. We had a lot of food left to take home. BYO, too. I wish we lived closer – they have a very extensive menu and I would like to explore it all.
