Andrew B. Wolff, M.D.

I am currently six-​months out from surgery with Dr. Wolff. I can’t recommend him highly enough. When I first saw him for a consultation, he was running late, but despite being behind, he sat down with me and answered every question that I had, making sure that I felt completely comfortable with his diagnosis, and the recommended course of action.
Dr. Wolff did an amazing job with my surgery, and both him and his staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I am now back at the gym doing everything I was doing before my hip pain started becoming a problem. I am a very fit and athletic person, and it was important to me that I have a surgeon who understood my sport (CrossFit) and what I wanted to be doing after surgery – Dr. Wolff totally got it and was completely supportive!
If you have a labrum tear/​FAI and are in the DC area (or anywhere else!), Dr. Wolff is without a question the person you should be going to see.
One other thing to add – I was worried about the fact that his practice doesn’t accept insurance, and both Dr. Wolff and the billing department were both wonderful about explaining exactly what that meant and how things were handled after surgery, and that they weren’t looking to make me pay more than I could afford (and they didn’t). They worked with my insurance and with me, and even though I ended up paying more out of pocket than I would have with an in-​network surgeon, it was more than worth it to know that I was with the best out there!

After being diagnosed with a hip labral tear and FAI, I was referred to Dr. Wolff. After bringing in my MRI’s and x-​rays for the first evaluation, I was told that surgery was needed to repair and correct the issue. Dr. Wolff answered all of my questions thoroughly and with patience.
Scheduling and pre-​op went smoothly. Tina was very helpful in walking me through the process leading up to the surgery. All my extraneous requests (such as recommending me PT’s in my area and getting my handicap tag) were handled swiftly and expertly.
The days leading up to the surgery were hectic. Heavy snow was forecasted and I was not sure if my surgery would even take place. Tina reassured me that if «there was only one person who could make it to the surgery center, it would be Dr. Wolff». She was right.
The day of the surgery, Dr. Wolff continued to show his great bedside manner. Prior to the operation, he came in and asked how I was doing, and answered all of my last minute questions. After the operation, my girlfriend, who was in the waiting room, said that Dr. Wolff came out to update her on the surgery (it went well) and even filled out some paperwork for my employer!
Several days after surgery, I was in persistent moderate pain and gave Tina a call to ask if it was normal. I was told that he was with his last patient and that he’d give me a call later. I assumed that it would be tomorrow since I called late in the afternoon (around 4 PM), but to my surprise, Dr. Wolff called me back, around 6 PM, during his commute home!
Only time will tell if the surgery will «hold up». As of now, I am about 1 month displaced, and my physical therapist has indicated that I am making very good progress. However, I can say with complete certainty that Dr. Wolff is one of the most patient and kind doctors that I have seen. Highly recommended!

Dr. Wolff is hands-​down the best orthopedist in the area. I had been to so many doctors before I found him, some of which had NO IDEA what was wrong with my hip. After 10 minutes with me, Dr. Wolff knew exactly what was wrong with me, send me for a contrast MRI that week, and had me scheduled for labrum repair surgery within a week.
I really have had no better experience with a doctor or doctor’s office in my life. Tina is amazing and will get you scheduled — no matter what. Dr. Wolff’s bedside manner is unrivaled — he’s funny, charming, and light-​hearted, which is really important when you’re going in for surgery. I can’t say enough great things about him and his office. I had been to 6 orthopedists before him, including the training room at Johns Hopkins, and he was the only who could fix me!

Dr. Wolff and his office staff (Tina) are outstanding … very personable with patients and family … which is critical given the seriousness of the conditions in which so many are in. Office visits were set up efficiently and as quickly as possible, recognizing that he has quite a waiting list. Dr. Wolff came highly recommended from other physicians for the particular hip surgeries (plural) that our young athlete needed.
As good as the office staff are, Angelique (nurse) at the surgery center is the best. She is extraordinarily personable, committed to her patients beyond the call of duty, and very skilled at handling the unexpected complication, the confusing instructions, and the general anxiety that accompany significant surgery. She also demonstrated great clinical skills and compassion in adjusting post-​op care and treatment as circumstances required. Our athlete and we his family are indebted to her for the care she provided.
Obviously, we look forward to long-​term positive results. In the meantime, Dr. Wolff and his staff get a five.
