This is one of D.C.‘s local hidden gems, and my favorite home décor store in the city. There is not a single thing there that I would not be thrilled to own. They showcase original works handcrafted by artists with designs that are elegant, unpretentious and simply beautiful. They also have an extensive jewelry selection that seems very nice. This store is the largest of a few locations they have in the metro area; it is certainly my favorite as I’ve visited the others and this one seems to have the largest and best selection. They are particularly strong in the areas of handmade ceramics and glassware — great stuff for gifts or decorating your own home or office. In addition, the owners and employees have always seemed very helpful and knowledgeable, true craftspeople who can speak about the processes used to create their pieces, the studios and artists they came from, and a host of other issues potential customers might want to understand. They offer pieces at a range of price points(nothing absurd — actually quite reasonable for the quality), and I’d recommend checking them out on any stroll through upper Georgetown, or even making a special trip!

Wow, art gallery quality and you can put a lot of cash here if you’re looking for a special treat for yourself or a gift for another. This isn’t a cooperative in a formal way but the selection of arts and crafts brought in, especially the glassworks, are impressive. I’m positive this is a well known shop for those seeking quality wares for the house.

Wonderful selection of items for the home, from the bathroom to the kitchen and elsewhere. It’s got a lot of ‘crafts’ and if you like signed designer items, this is the place for you. Also does gift certificates and you can order by phone and they will send a gift card to the recipient, wherever they may be. A lot of modern items and very unique selection.

Visiting my friend in Georgetown last December, I checked out this shop with her. We were on a mission to find the perfect gift for her mother. Appalachian Spring was THE place to find that perfect gift. It’s rife with American craft work made from glass, metal, and wood. My favorite items were the wood pieces. There was a «great for teachers» section in the back of the store, which served me well. We ended up getting a beautiful, ceramic slow cooker for her mom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered us gift wrapping service and took special care with our purchases. The shop also specializes in glass Christmas ornaments, which were prominently displayed at the front of the store. The little old lady in me wanted to snatch them all up. Note — Like many shops in this part of D.C., it’s pricy, but what you are paying for is unique, American craft work. Come here to buy a gift that makes a statement or a gift that needs to be «that something special.»

This store is awesome! I strongly support hand made items and individual sellers over mass production… and this store is all about this philosophy. They have quite the range of jewelry, wood items, and even knit items. This place is definitely worth a visit… you’ll be able to get something for your own home or a unique gift that can’t be found elsewhere. Support hand made!

Very cute shop where you can find all kinds of above average gifts for friends and family. Not interested I’m buying? An hour can flash by browsing. Explore and read some of the interesting backgrounds of the artists/crafters of all the interesting items. Parking is a hassle but worth the effort as you get the chance to walk around Georgetown.

Remember as a kid when you could lose time doing something as simple as looking through a kaleidoscope? It happened to me just last weekend, and I’m no longer a kid(at least, physically). While upon first impression you see mostly glass art throughout the shop, at second glance you’ll notice all sorts of unusual gifts. High-end brass and wooden kaleidoscopes(hence the earlier reference), kids chopsticks made in the likeness of animals, greeting cards of all sorts, cute little bibs with animal prints, plates, glasses, vases, pet dishes and more. Everything here is truly unique and well worth a visit.
