Rating the happy hour. –4 dollar draft and bottles, they didn’t have any drafts«working» –4 dollar wings, you get 4 wings. Really? –understaffed — I liked the chainmail blinds –Lets be honest, i’m just pissed about the wings.

This place is so cute! Go on a Tuesday – they have half priced bottles of wine! The bar is quite small, but there are a bunch of lounge nooks. Our waitress, Charisma, was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The food wasn’t amazing, but it was pretty good. I got a cheese plate and the truffle fries. The cheese was meh, but the truffle fries were pretty good. The menu is a bit expensive, so I would definitely recommend going during happy hour!

Nice, quiet little hotel bar with funky décor, tasty food, and very friendly bartender. Great of you are staying in the hotel, but even worth the visit just for a quiet drink with friends in the fun red sofas and chairs.

Decent size, yet odd shaped(a seperate room across the lobby hall) hotel bar. It was only open from 5pm –midnight I think? I never was at the bar that late… anyways also open for breakfast service which we had our final morning in DC. Breakfast was kind of pricey for what it was. Staff in the bar was friendly as well. Drinks were good. I usually stuck with a night cap wine before heading to bed. Wish there were more seats at the bar itself– only three or four.

Bartenders Charisma and Dale took care of me and my party of 30 last night. The birthday celebration went flawlessly as they served drinks continuously. Dale even made up a birthday cocktail for us.

Bar Rouge is a decent place to grab a drink during happy hour. My bartender, Charisma, was awesome. I had one of the cocktails(HH price $ 7) and it was quite strong. I also ordered the sweet potato tots and the portion was huge for only $ 4! Plus, they were tasty. And I love that everything is red. It might not be my first choice, but I’m definitely up for coming back.

I think we visited Bar Rouge 3 out of 4 nights during our stay at the hotel. The bartender(Charisma?) was fantastic. The drinks were tasty. Husband and I really enjoyed closing out the bar in «our» booth. And being from Boston, it was fun to have an actual Happy Hour! That means I could get my Bailout for $ 7. And you can’t beat that with a bat. And I really need to try and replicate that Bailout at home(Jameson, Stoli Vanilla and honey). My only beef with Bar Rouge is that it closes early! I think it technically is supposed to close at 10pm, but we’d leave around 11 or so. Charisma would come around to the tables and let us know that it was last call and she even peeked at my Instagram to make sure I tagged the Bar. We’d have stayed well past 11 if the bar had been open. I guess it’s probably better for our wallets that it didn’t. Great, chill lounge for a drink if you’re in the area.

Absolutely pleasant place for hotel guests to sit, have light bite, and night cap. Ambient, balanced music volume, sports on the bar television accents a cozy casual cultural sophistication. Bar Rouge has style &CHARISMA!

We stopped here during the DC Bourbon Bash. and the positive note is that the crawl actually took us here. I would’ve never been here otherwise. The bar is located in a hotel. The décor is very«warmy», red, high-end. We met some bourbon crawlers in there, but I think we were being a little too loud for the«date customers». The bartender was fast and efficient, this place warrants another trip. non-pub-crawl related.

This place looks cool but very limited food and drink menu and limited alcohol list. Like others have said very often you go in and find no staff or bartender. Almost like the shining one magically appears, very strange do they hide in the back watching a camera? Breakfast is like a feeding trough and they claim to have fresh local food but very often you will see the big Sysco truck out front dropping off frozen bulk food. Check out Nage just up the street for a good bar!

This one one of the stops along the Living Social Margarita March, their margarita was a fan favorite among our group and the appetizers were pretty good as well. The service was decent considering the crowd from the event. Is definitely a place I can see myself visiting again! Hopefully a regular visit will add a star…

I’m kinda surprised and not-surprised at others reviews. We were staying at the hotel and ate here at Bar Rouge. PS. Hotel accommodation is awesome. We didn’t intend to eat at Bar Rouge and first tried other restaurants close by instead but the heavens opened and all the local spots were packed(Saturday night), so we came back. I agree with those reviewers who said the bar staff were unfriendly. The big guy who served us was pretty abrupt and we couldn’t work out if he was being offish, efficient(odd way of showing it) or that was just his style. Regardless, he got our drinks and meal orders right. Hubby loved the sliders and proclaimed them perfectly cooked — and believe me he is so fussy with his meat. I had some fish which I’ve never heard of before. It was OK… like a mix between salmon and sardine. A little too rich though. The polenta and asparagus accompaniments were very tasty. I like the funky seventies-type décor too.

If you’re staying at the hotel, I’d recommend ordering room service from Bar Rouge as opposed to sitting downstairs in the lounge. The menu is larger and has a bigger focus on sandwiches and entrees. Also, hilarious names. Who can resist ordering a «Secretary of Cheese, Burger»?

This bar has so much potential but it’s almost like they don’t try or don’t seem to care. Menu is weird. Limited choice, nothing normal. Comfort seating and the fact that it isn’t crowded make me want to give it 3 stars. But please, but some more normal appetizers on menu!

Please Don’t Bother With This Place ~ It is the LAMEST place in DC. Décor may be cool but who cares! The ambiance is similar to that of a retirement home in central Florida, elastic waist bands included. Need I say more? Going there was all my fault, I was suckered in by the cool pics in , it looked fun so we decided to try it. Now I have been placed on «lounge probation!» Argh!!! DONOTGOTHERE whatever you do. Oh yes, I promptly cancelled my UrbanDaddy subscription.

Bar Rouge appear to me to be similar to Topaz Lounge. While the former follows its namesake in ruby-hued décor, the latter employs more muted ocean tones, a more soothing tint to my eyes, personally. As many others have noted, Bar Rouge tries to be more posh than it is. I’m a little surprised that it’s part of the Kimpton brand. When I think of Kimpton hotel bar/lounges, my thoughts go to the rustic chic of Jacksons 20 in Old Town, the airy open space of Poste, or the classy chill vibe at Urbana. I definitely got the sense that Bar Rouge was trying to be cooler than it really was, which is a shame, because I’m quite fond of the Kimpton mini-chain. While here for a networking social event, I didn’t have any of their signature drinks, but my interaction with the bartender were pretty business-like transactions. Perhaps they’re not trained to show any personality here? Maybe he just wasn’t excited to be there. Whatever, I don’t remember his speaking a word, or cracking a smile. Just stony silence. Efficiency is good. But in my opinion, being a good bartender also means interacting with your clientele — especially considering how amazingly dead it was that evening. On an up note, their chicken skewers are pretty solid. Tender meat that’s cooked through — decent seasoning(did I detect a hint of cumin on it?), too. I’d be willing to stop in during happy hour to sample various other nibbles while catching up with some good friends… if I happened to be in this neighborhood. I have no real complaints, but this is a pale shadow of how stellar Urbana tends to be on a regular basis.

I LOVE their calamari! We all know that this popular appetizer always tastes generically similar to rubber, no matter where you order it from. Yet, this was not so at the Rouge. The tender calamari was in a spicy crust and served with a delicious marmalade/sauce… Everything else I devoured was just«okay.» But, this was also nearly a year ago(I’m so very behind on reviews). The place is really cute, but as Candace mentioned — is NOT a hot spot. I’d head to sister bar/hotel Topaz — where the décor is just as interesting, but the crowd exists.

HAHA. Ew, okay, just ignore this place now. Yes — the place has potential. The artwork on the walls is hot, the colors are subdued and sexy, the floor is concrete, and it’s a lounge where you can actually have a large or small group of people and talk to one another over drinks on a weekend without being drowned out by obnoxious drunken bridezillas and bridesmaidzillas. Oh wait, we were, but luckily we could still hear each other over the shrieks and giggles when one of the bridesmaidzillas got another patron to moon her so she could take a picture of it for her little treasure-hunt. That aside, the only other good thing about this place is that I’m under the impression they have some classy private rooms. Or at least that’s what I think I saw. The drink menu sucks, the bar does not have a wide selection of liquors and spirits. The place was empty on a Saturday night at 11pm(until the bride came in with her ladies). It’s also kind of in the middle of nowhere. In that weird no-fly zone between Dupont and Farragut. Not really within convenient walking distance of metro, but you can pull it off. Plenty of parking nearby. Not really a hot scene.

3.5 Stars. Nothing great, but my friends and I like to start the night there once in a while. Bar Rouge is never busy before 11-ish, it has an intimate feel and comfortable seating, and it’s a good place to have your first couple of drinks and catch up before heading out someplace a little bit more lively. Service is spotty. There are a few bartenders there that are quite excellent, and a few who are stuck-up and rude. And I don’t go there enough to figure out schedules. I don’t know that I would recommend it as a nightlife spot, but it’s a good place to «warm up.» :-)

I am not sure how to put this so I will put it as nicely as possible. THISPLACESUCKS! It is has the feeling of a fake trendy hotel night spot. Wait, it is a fake trendy hotel night spot. The place was dirty, the bar staff never even spoke to us, so I can’t even tell you about the drinks. ANDMESSAGETOOURULTRAPLUSSIZELADYFRIENDS! Please don’t use the Men’s room. You know who you are. About Midnight things start to stank! I do not need to smell that when I go in the John behind you. Why do you think guys take a leak on the seat? They are marking their territory. So, please wait in line.
