As one of my cohorts said last night as we put down pints of Guinness at Biddy’s — «This place is good because it’s just convenient for everyone». I agree. Being stumbling distance from the Dupont metro will always keep this place full and running. Is it the best place around Dupont? I wouldn’t say so, but it gets the job done. The bar was comfortably full last night and we received attentive service. I seem to talk to strangers more than I should and I found the other patrons friendly and engaging. So make Biddy’s your third or fourth go-to spot in DC. Not terrible, just not outstanding. NOTE: Get there before 10÷31÷08 because they’re closing their doors for renovation until St. Patty’s Day 2009.(Proper use of there, they’re, their — boo yah).

Just ate at this restaurant Friday night. The food was ok however after finishing my beer, entire entrée and splitting dessert, my friend and I found a ROACH on the seat next to us. To top it off all the management offerred after they heard my friend yelling was another round of drinks. YUCK! I calmly explained to him that after seeing a ROACH I did not want to eat let alone drink anything else in his place. If I were you I wouldn’t eat here…

Go here for the ambience and nothing else. If it is cold out go to sit at a window seat and just peer at the passersby in Dupont Circle. If warm, sit outside and watch the crowd at the rear garden across the street for the bookstore and café and in general the guests of the hotel. A wonderful experience if you just want to relax and play in Dupont Circle and have a few beers. Appetizers are good here and if it is election time or a football nite you will find some rather aggressive good lookers here.

Location in the fruit loop will trump all. There’s nothing special about this place yet I’ve found myself here often because there’s always space here. But I also go during off-season like a Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The service can be slow. Their Bloody Marys are HORRIBLE. I guess if this place were any better than average, then it would be too crowded. Like amateur night on a Friday.

OVERRATED!!! I love me a good Americanized Irish pub restaurant, but Biddy Mulligan’s served us the most sub-par food in the world for the highest prices. I had two beers and a plate of appetizer chicken tenders(which were disgusting, for the record) for nearly $ 30. They won’t split payments on checks, either, so we all had to take turns rotating out to the Bank of America down the road to get cash before we could pay. Oh, & did I mention that we were seated right next to the open fireplace, so we were all sweating bullets by the time we finished? The only perk was the awesome French fries, and, I guess, the fact that they had enough seating space for 20 people at one table. And my pleasure ends there. I won’t be back.

I’ve been to a lot of hotel bars and this place was better than you’re average hotel bar. We ate a quick snack and had a beer here and were rather impressed. If I could give this place 3.5 stars, I would, I think this is the perfect rating. Mixed crowd for a hotel, but admittedly, this was on a Saturday afternoon right before the Pride Parade. One of the best hotel bars I’ve been to and coupled with super convenient location right on Dupont Circle mean I might end up having a pint at this bar again.

Horrible, wretched service for lunch outside. We saw our waiter maybe three times, and had to walk in to get a refill of our water. I made a request for my bread that he switched to something else«because the kitchen’s out of rye” – without asking me. And the fries made me want to vom. Go to booze, not to eat.

Love Biddy Mulligan’s, it has the best Guinness in the city. I was visiting my brother here and we stopped in to have ONE drink before meeting up with his friends. Well, a ridiculous storm started up in the middle of our pint and we were forced to stay for another couple. Poor us, huh? It was a great way to enjoy the storm: Guinness in hand, seated in front of the huge window, watching people get soaked.

This is one of the best bars in Dupont Circle in my opnion. Get here early and stake out a table. It has that usual lame after work crowd that most Dupont bars have, but this place usually fillsout and the more interesting people come back/out later. If you are there during the week, you can usually find authentic men from the UK taking in a sport match on the tellie. Lovely. Try to find a table in the back, by the bathrooms and the fireplace. It’s quieter there, and you can get food/drink service much easier. Everyone tends to huddle around the bar and that makes for a much more crowded atmosphere in the front room.

This place is absolutely not my scene. However, its nice enough inside. One of my friends works here so I stop in from time to time. The food isn’t too bad but its really hard to find something healthy on the menu. I think it’d be a fun happy hr place but the crowd seems to be older … i mean i guess its in a hotel and all so go figure. If you feel like fried food its yum.

I only had one drink here, but it’s absolutely a place I would go to again. The bar wasn’t overly crowded, the layout was great for just about anything, and the bartenders were attentive and informed. It was a great change from the usual Dupont hangouts and a little more refined. It’s not the most authentic Irish pub I’ve been to, but it’s a great place to go and have a pint.

Went for a small engagement party after party. Great bar with an interesting diversity although clearly a tourist mix. But it’s in the Jury hotel so not sure why that would be surprising. Smooth drinks and nice bar assortment. Very generous bartenders. All of the locals with us bumped into more locals. One even re-united with a friend from childhood! So can’t be that bad for a «hotel bar»…Sit in the immediate hotel lounge if too noisy /crowded inside.

I actually really really liked this place. My ex-roommate used to go every night and little did I know. My waiter was actually nice and attentive(atypical DC). I was not rushed out or forced to move to a smaller table, or made to feel bad for waiting for my friend who was a bit late. The scene was cool, laid-back, and varied — I could go with my co-workers, friends, or mom.(I bumped into literally 4 people from my alma mater, in 2 seperate groupings.) The music was good, but not too loud. My beer-battered chicken fingers and BBQ sauce were too good — and they serve food late. Overall, this place rocked. Edit: My co-worker used to be a waiter there and told me there is a roach problem in the kitchen.

It’s a decent Irish pub but the crowd is more off than on. It could be that they get more tourists than locals but their location is great. I wish they had a bigger patio area and some kind of a system other than hovering around tables to see who’s leaving. Other than that, they’ve got good selections on tap and their bar tenders are friendly.

Haven’t seen enough«we’ve ripped up a bar in Ireland and imported it over here for your drinking pleasure» places around DC yet? Well, here’s another one. As I said, this is «apparently» all of the fixtures from a bar in Ireland that have been transplanted all the way to our humble, little city so that we can imbibe and feel like it’s part of our heritage to do so. It’s actually pretty cool on the inside and what you’d expect to see in an Irish Pub(except for the fact that Dupont Circle is right out your window). The food here is definitely above-average bar food. The fish and chips are good as well as many of the other standard pub meals. Service can be a bit spotty at the tables, but is spot on if you sit at the bar(and I concur with my fellow reviewers on this point). Overall, if you don’t mind sitting elbow-to-elbow with a few gawking toursits, this is actually a good bar in an excellent location.

Liam Michael Patrick Darmody is my full name. Being Irish(as well as Italian) is just something I «do.» Hence, I enjoy a good Irish public house. Having driven by the Jury’s hotel a bunch and always being intrigued by the fact that they had irish flags hanging, I hadn’t gone to Biddy Mulligan’s until a friend invited me for a happy hour there. Since it’s on my walk home, I popped in one Friday. First of all, this place is JAM packed to the brim in the early evenings, and I was there until about 9pm with no relief. The crowd is definitely a good mix of young professionals and older folk, and I really like the layout of the place(lots of windows = nice views of Dupont Circle). Any place that serves Boddingtons on tap is good in my book, but no Smithwicks? What the dilly– you can’t throw your fist in the air as a true Irish pub without some Smithwicks. But I was happy drinking sipping my BRITISH Boddingtons – limey bastards… The food here is not anything i’ve tried, but it looked fantastic. Cocktail waiters here have to run around and squeeze in and out and balance food up in the air, it looks like a horrible job and I’d probably punch someone, so tip them nicely and understand that if they are a tad slow with your beer or food, it’s because they have to play frogger to get it to you. I have to say that it did take a little longer than I would have expected, considering I was standing 6 feet from the service well, but I just adjusted and ordered my own bevs from the tenders themselves, and problem solved. It was an interesting alternative to the smaller, more crowded Fado of Gallery Place, and i’ll likely go back.

My friend Lambert doesn’t like this place. He was on an expense account my last time here, buying us all beers, and the waiters couldn’t keep up with his pace. «We ordered that round ten minutes ago!» he said, taking a swig of my still-half-full Bass Ale Draft. «And your fries, John! What’s the hold-up?» He was pretty mad, but for a lunch hour, the place was awfully busy, and so I didn’t hold a grudge with the waiter. It was a rainy day, and the big glass windows afforded us a nice view onto Dupont. I was happy just to be inside the warm confines of Mulligan’s. It’s a slightly older crowd in here, seems to be popular with tourists. As a lunch spot, it’s hard to beat(especially if you enjoy an ale or two with your burger). I actually had the chicken tenders, which were delicious. Lambert had the Curry Fries(not to be mistaken with Curly fries)…they, too, were delicious. A good meeting spot, right on Dupont.

I basically lived in this bar for the week leading up to(and after) my wedding. It is really a cute and friendly place. Biddy’s has the most authentic Irish pub in the area. and well it should be. It was brought over brick by brick from Ireland. This is a great place to meet new folks or hang with your crew. Whenever I have hung out here there were no obnoxious frat dudes yelling and shoving. And the bartenders know how to pour a Guinness. If you get one of the Irish bartenders, he may be able to put a clover on top of yours if you ask nicely. Sit on the platform near the window facing the circle for the best view. Awesome spot to people watch, for sure.

biddy mulligans. i’ve called it everything from buddy mulligans, bennigans, milligans, funnigans, to the-bar-near-the-metro-around-dupont-circle. why you say i cannot get the name straight? well, that is due to the fact that i’m always drunk, getting drunk, going to be drunk, or just passed out by the time i’m there, going to be there, after i come from there. so here’s my top 10 things: 1) the french fries here are good. not just because french fries are hard to f– up, but also because they give you vinegar and i guess that’s the way they do it at irish bars. or something. 2) theres always a crowd. granted it’s not always the best looking, the youngest, or the coolest/chicest crowd, but it’s nice to know that wahtever nite you’re there, it’s going to be packed and full of people. 3) the bartenders are sweeeeettttt… definitely don’t jip you on your liquor. they know what it means when you ask for a «SPLASH» of diet coke in your jack daniels, and apparently. chang wang says they have really good beers on tap. 4) the«black and tan» is tasty for the first three sips, and then it’s not for me. however, it is like the coolest«beer beverage» that a girl can hold. because everyone’s askin’ you. what’s that. and you can answer as if you’re a real beer connoisseur but in actuality you just copied chang wang in the corner. 5) they have matches and i like matches for the candles at home. so i like to stock up here. 6) the décor is very fitting for the area. dupont and next to a hotel leads to a decent and clean bar. 7) bathrooms are fabulous. never a line and really clean, i have never slipped on the floor or fell in the toilet or found puke on, around, above, below the toilet. it’s just a nice place to just get your liquids out when you need to. 8) easy to chat with people. granted. it’s a bar, a loud bar, loud people, music in the background, BUT i can still hear chang wang and bf. so it’s okie. IT’s OKIE. 9) easily accessible. you can’t miss it, it’s around the circle at dupont circle, and the circle contains CVS– for cigarettes, drinks, and money breaks, bank of america and suntrust– for the much needed money you might spend, and it’s a good place to start the night as you wait for the other people in your«crew» to meet up with you! 10) it’s affordable. drinks are strong but it’s definitely not the most expensive place i’ve had in dupont. so don’t worrie and just drink up. because the nite is young, and biddy’s sooo beautiful.
