Bikram Yoga Dupont

One of my favorite yoga studios. They always get the best instructors. Its a cool setting overlooking Dupont area. FYI, If you end up practicing next to the window, you will have people on the street waving at you while you are practicing.

like I could really take them at my own pace. The other people in the class were all at varying levels so I didn’t feel like an odd one out. Getting a spot closer to the window helped keep me slightly cooler and is it was definitely toasty in there! It was slightly pricey but the $ 20 intro week was a good deal. Will definitely go back on my next trip to DC

Craziest Bikram studio I’ve ever been to. I have been practicing 15 years in studios all over the world– LES NYC, Brooklyn, Edinburgh, Santiago, Johannesburg, Cambridge, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Vancouver. At every other studio I’ve been to, they adjust the heat multiple times during class and crack a window or door if it gets too hot and humid. Well DC is the most humid city I’ve ever practiced in, and any experienced practitioner will tell you that heavily impacts your practice. But at this studio they decide to supplement the 85% DC humidity with a giant steam machine that blows wet gusts of steam at you right during the most challenging posture, standing head to knee. Aggh!!! Bikram’s official guidelines are 105° and 40% humidity, and if the natural humidity is higher you’re supposed to lower the temperature. The temp in this studio was 108° (I know because I was standing right in front of the thermometer). The whole studio is sealed tight as a drum so no respite. They don’t even lower or turn off the heat during savasana.
The worst part is that the locker rooms are on the 4^th floor of a steep walkup, so after a grueling practice you have to climb a couple flights of stairs. I also really disliked the vibe of many of the women who practice there. At my regular Brooklyn studios (Park Slope and Lefferts) everyone was so kind, chill, diverse and welcoming. Here it’s these angry WASP chicks in pearls and lululemon who give you the evil death stare. This one chick behind me glared at me the entire class and it was really uncomfortable, I tried to avoid making eye contact. Afterwards I just wanted to towel off and get out, but I was really disappointed to find that the towel I had rented was moldy, stiff, ragged and gross.
I really did love the instructor Wesley though, he followed the Bikram dialogue closely and gave really good corrections. Good attitude too. It’s nice that the instructors here use a mic.
I’m going to check out the Bikram near Union Station next time, the Dupont is just too much and not enjoyable at all. I don’t think it’s healthy to practice in 150% humidity– I could barely breathe and had to sit down. That hasn’t happened to me in years and it definitely wasn’t an off day for me. Too bad because it’s like 2 minutes from my office.

Welcome to your 90 minute meditation. Full disclosure: If you have never tried a bikram yoga class before, it can be quite the experience. You are placed in a crowded studio and the intense heat can be downright unbearable. I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat during my first class.
That being said– if you learn to love bikram yoga and actively incorporate into your lifestyle, the benefits on your body and mind are amazing. For most of my life, I hated exercise. When I did drag myself to the gym, I only liked doing high intensity cardio because I felt I was making the best use of my time at the gym that way. Even then though exercise wasn’t fun.
While I have always found regular yoga to be boring, bikram yoga has always felt like an intense workout to me and I actually enjoy it. I love the way that the class reenergizes my mind and my body. My posture has improved. I’ve increased my arm strength. I also love how the practice helps me focus on living in the present and how to be a more compassionate and positive person in general. The mindfulness relaxation element of the class is so huge for me. This really is a 90 minute meditation.
Bikram isn’t for everyone and this studio may not be right for for you either and that’s ok. The first step is getting yourself there and trying it out though… this is a great studio to learn.
Bikram yoga dupont is very clean and the instructors are great. All the instructors I’ve had are very nice and great at making new students feel welcome. I continue to see improvement in my flexibility and postures from each class I attend. The studio can get pretty crowded but if you can learn to adapt to the numbers, that shouldn’t deter you.
I also love that they give you pineapple after the weekend morning yoga classes. Hot yoga + pineapple = happiness. Best way to start out any weekend morning!

I’ve been to Bikram yoga studios around the world, and this one is a gem. The check-​in staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The locker room and showers are clean. The owner, Carolan, knows many of the students by name and is one of the kindest people you’ll meet. She has a vision for the studio as an oasis from the crazy lives we all lead. The classes are consistent and all the teachers are all great. They have different approaches, all good in their own way and all will give you feedback. A few stick to the original Bikram dialogue and others ad lib. Carolan’s class is gentle and precise; Ambiya has a spark that motivates the whole room; Yasmin’s class is soothing and strong; and Brett is a teacher’s teacher, to name a few (other teachers good as well). I always feel transformed after yoga class at Bikram Dupont.

I would say that I’ve never been much of a yoga person. I’m not flexible and definitely prefer cardio. But I absolutely love Bikram Dupont. I leave feeling cleansed, calm, and like I actually got a good workout. I would agree with some of the other reviewers that say it can be dependent on the instructor. I’ve had some great experiences and some not so great. I really only try to go when Yasmin is teaching. She corrects your position without making you feel like an idiot and her class just has a very peaceful atmosphere.

I really like this studio. The yoga room is on the second floor and the office and locker rooms are on the 4^th. My instructor was really great, at the 6pm class. It’s really fun to go through this 90 minute class and sweat out all your toxins and show yourself that you are more flexible than you think. They fixed their heating system too recently so it’s nice and warm in there.

Yesterday, I had written a negative review of Dupont Bikram, pointing out issues that concerned me about my experience there. Their front desk had given me the contact email of their owner, and we started an email conversation.
She stated that she was going to contact an attorney about my negative Unilocal review, so instead of continuing this issue, I have taken down all reference to her studio, since it is the subject of debate. Here is the selection of paragraphs I received from her from the email chain, specifically all the full paragraphs she mentioned the word «attorney.»
“I contacted Unilocal to file a complaint about your posting and am in touch with my attorney about removing your comments posted on line about my business, because they are not true. I will be in touch with you about that. If you could send me your mailing address, i would appreciate it.”
«I looked at your comments on line and they are still false. You are making untrue statements, revised or otherwise, and if you do not withdraw them, i will have my attorney address this. I have never been attacked like this on line in the 13 years that i have owned this studio. What you are doing is against the law.»
«I have already contacted Unilocal to file my complaint and my attorney to see what she can do to remove your false statements from public view.»
If she would like to herself give more context to her emails about the specifics of what happened in the studio and the review, she should feel free to respond, but since she is threatening me with legal action, I am not comfortable with giving any more details.

Great studio. Love looking down at the street when I need a distraction.

I am visiting DC for a few days. I love doing yoga in different cities. I’m a yoga teacher and feel open to other styles and teachings. I was so excited to do Bikram in DC until I met the teacher. She was so unfriendly and reactive; I wondered if she had ever done yoga before. I was so uncomfortable with her energy that I decided not to take the class and walked out before I paid. There’s another studio upstairs: yoga district. Go there instead. You may not sweat the same way, but they are so much nicer. I love Bikram yoga and have practiced it all over the world with different teachers. Not all are warm and fuzzy, however they were not as rude as the teacher I encountered at the DC studio.

This place is awesome! I’ve been to a few bikram studios, but this one definitely sets the bar. The teachers are friendly and encouraging. The studio itself is clean, well, as clean as a 104degree room can be. My only suggestion would be to get there early, so you can nab a spot in the back… or the front, so you don’t have to look at sweat dripping on the floor.

The pricing is decent, especially if you’re lucky enough to nab one of their Groupon deals. Try to remember to bring water and extra towels, as well as a lock so you can store your things. They have water for sale, as well as yoga mat rentals… but due to the amount of sweat I suggest bringing your own mat. Warning: the locker room is often filled with people who are VERY comfortable with their bodies. There’s a lot of skin, so if that’s something you’re not OK with take note.

I’ve been practicing at BYD for about 6 months and I definitely love it. It’s great stress relief to go sweat and stretch and the location couldn’t be better! The studio is clean and comfortable and the instructors are all really friendly and helpful.

Out of the all Bikram Yoga places in the DMV I have tried … this one is by far my favorite. Great schedule. Good instructors. Spacious Yoga Room. Secure locker room and decent showers.
All for a good Bikram experience.

I have been practicing Bikram yoga for close to 2 years now and have been to various different studios including one in Tel Aviv (I travel alot for work). Signing up was a breeze, electronic lockers, nice showers, the studio was clean (clearly odor and cleanliness is a huge issue that plagues many yoga studios when you and others are sweating profusely for the entire duration of the class).
The ceiling steamers definitely made the workout more challenging given the higher humidity (a plus for the folks who like to push themselves to the limit — myself included). The location is excellent for those in the area; there is also a Smoothie King very close to the studio where you can get a protein shake after the draining workout.
The instructor correct your poses without being overbearing. Everyone was extremely friendly and there seems to be a sense of community, not sure there is more you can ask for a studio.

Out of all the bikram studios I’ve ever tried, I keep coming back to this one on purpose. The instructors are great and give wonderful corrections, the floors are made of rubber (i.e. easy to clean!) and there is no lingering foot odor in the practice room. It’s a great facility whether it’s your first time of fifty-​first time taking bikram. There are also a couple of advanced yogis that will drop by classes at this studio randomly so it’s really nice to see people who really have a mastery of bikram to give yourself goals.
I wish there were more mirrors (the shape of the room makes it difficult to see yourself), but I love the location, the number of windows and the light that gets let in, and the community that frequents this studio.
They have deals on Groupon and stuff pretty often too, so keep your eyes peeled.

Love bikram dupont! The only reason I am giving it one less star is because the check-​in process is disorganized and I’ve wasted way too much time waiting in line. It’s also frustrating when you aren’t allowed to enter the studio until a few minutes before class starts. I, personally, like to adjust to the heat for a few minutes before jumping into the poses.
The studio isn’t super fancy and the locker rooms are insanely claustrophobic and don’t even get me started on the bathroom situation… but who really cares about that stuff anyway. I am there for the yoga, and the quality of teachers at bikram dupont is absolutely up to par. If you are looking for a ritzy studio, it’s probably not for you, but I would reccommend it to anyone.

This was the second Bikram studio I have visited, and I went because they offered a great Groupon for 5 classes for $ 35 (check it out because they continually have had them the last couple of weeks)!
I went with a friend and arrived 30 minutes prior to class as the Groupon instructed. To my surprise the front office and locker rooms are located on the fourth floor of the building when the studio is located on the second. While not normally a big issue, its definitely a bit difficult to go from a Bikram workout and then have to walk up two flights of stairs — it has made me lightheaded both times I’ve gone. So just something to be prepared for and aware of about this studio. Additonally, the studio itself is oddly shaped so that you can’t always see the instructor or the mirrors, which as a beginner can be somewhat difficult. So, get there early if you need the mirrors/​like to see the instructor so you can get a preferable spot. The heat and misters are great and work just like they should in my mind.
Other than the layout of the building, the instructors are REALLY great! They are encouraging, affirming but really make you work throughout the class. The two instructors I’ve had were very personable, completely understood I was a beginner and came over at different points to ensure I was doing the postures correctly to be most effective.
The women’s locker room is PRISTINE and clean which is major plus! There are lockers with locks (another plus!) and showers, benches, and mat racks. Not to mention the locker room is sizably large so you can change with the other 20+ other women who were in your class or coming in to the next class and not feel like you’re all up in someone else’s business.
There is also a filtered water cooler available in the main lounge area that is available and free to use if you bring your own water bottle.
Finally, I would say I really appreciate the consistent class schedule that has sessions throughout the day everyday. It helps to have that flexibility between weekdays, weeknights and weekends to figure out how to fit Bikram in with a routine andschedule.

This studio has legitimately traumatized me. Admittedly, it could be a subjective view since the other bikram studios I have been to are in the suburbs. Can my experience here be summarized as «best locations, worst conditions»?
To start off, the studio comprises of two floors — second and fourth. And students have to sign in on the top level before going down to the actual studio on the second floor, meaning there’s sweat on the stairs all the way through in between. I found it absolutely appalling by the layout. You also have to return to the top floor after class because that’s where the showers and lockers are located. The dilapidated building in which the studio is established doesn’t offer the best stairs, and there’s not one inch in the studio that’s carpeted. A part of me dies every time my feet step into those numerous puddles of other people’s sweat on the stairs or floor. I honestly worry about people’s safety when you walk on slippery, wet, and frankly quite gross floors.
I have nothing against the instructors there, but the conditions totally freak me out. The layout of the actual studio is also badly designed. Instead of a rectangle, it has a square-​shaped part narrowly connected to a smaller rectangular area, but the ratio of the width and length is not so much that it can ensure every student can see themselves in the mirror when it’s crowded. Worse, in the square section no one can really see themselves in the mirror in the back. I don’t understand why they mark mat areas on the floor so close to each other — some, if not most, of them are probably less than 6 inches apart. Serious, how can you possibly do yoga when you stand that close to the people next to you?
There were pineapples after class on the weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) I went, but not during the week. I really enjoyed them, so that’s a plus. But overall I’m so grossed out that I doubt I’ll ever return here again. Sadly this seems to be one of the only three bikram studios in DC.

I only recently started practicing yoga and, until last night, had yet to experience the popular Bikram yoga. A few weeks ago, I purchased a bloomspot deal for 4 classes at Bikram Yoga Dupont. My friend finally convinced me to go to my first class last night. I remain undecided about how I feel about Bikram yoga… but I did enjoy this studio.
This is a nice spot for your first Bikram experience. The instructors are friendly and motivating. Throughout the entire 90-​minute session, I never felt as clueless as I thought I would. My instructor provided feedback on postures which really helped and told us when to take sips of water. After class, they provide fresh fruit to help get your blood sugar levels back on track. This is greatly appreciated as I felt a bit light-​headed walking back up the stairs from the studio to the locker room.
My only real complaint is that the locker room is quite small and there aren’t any bathrooms in the locker room itself (there is one for men and one for women up by the front desk). After pouring sweat for an hour and a half, I didn’t want to touch anyone let alone myself. Unfortunately, the close quarters in the locker room made this nearly impossible. I had to do a very interesting dance to get out of those sweaty clothes.
Here are my tips for newbies:
the studio is on the second floor of the building while the front desk and locker rooms are on the fourth floor
when you go into the studio, line your mat up with the blue tape on the floor
wear minimal clothing into the studio — I recommend shorts and a tank top;
bring a long towel to cover your mat, a smaller towel to wipe your face, and a towel to wipe down your body after class
bring a plastic or waterproof bag to put your sweaty clothes in after class
bring clothes and undergarments to change into — you’ll desperately want these bring a large water bottle — 16−20oz minimum
