Great bakery restaurant convenient to my hotel. Awesome monkey bread item(shaped like muffin). Nice atmosphere.

We came here for brunch on a Sunday and were so impressed with the entire experience. The customer service was outstanding, and the food was delicious! We did the brunch special, and it is a great deal for the amount of food you get! The pastries are amazing, and we enjoyed every minute!

Salmon eggs Benedict is a nice dish. Perfectly poached egg with a reasonable amount of hollandaise sauce, a couple of slices of okay smoked salmon on top of the toasted carbohydrate. I love latkes and theirs are just fine. Although latkes should always be served with apple sauce and sour cream as far as I’m concerned! They brought us bread with butter and jam. There were two kinds. I think their raisin bread is the weaker one, and I didn’t eat much of it. Service seems to be a little slow. People always have to ask for refills of water etc.

My husband and I discovered Bread & Chocolate while on a walk to Georgetown. I wanted something lighter like oatmeal and coffee. He wanted an omelette yet we were both up for some delicious pastries should there be some available and we found all of it here. At 11:00 on a Sunday Bread & Chocolate was not overwhelmingly busy. We even got our choice of seating outside. The staff is very friendly and the price for the quality and amount of food you receive is quite reasonable. I had oatmeal with strawberries(only one) and bananas; it was very creamy and sweet. My husband chose the Brunch special for $ 16: spinach, egg, and goat cheese omelette which came with juice + coffee and a basket of pastries. The only negative was that I had to request a refill on coffee twice and they were pretty slow to bring our check. If you are up for a leisurely weekend brunch, I would recommend Bread & Chocolate!

I love this place for an easy, comforting brunch! Sure, it’s not a 5-star restaurant but it has pretty darn good coffee and breakfast selections. The egg benedict is pretty solid and is my go-to when I want something savory. The nutella crepes are AMAZING and hit the spot every time. I enjoy their lattes and large coffee selection as well. If you’re a tourist staying in the area, definitely try this place for breakfast as it is probably less expensive than breakfasts at the hotels.

7 dollars for a fairly terrible attempt at granola and yogurt. Coffee was ok, though.

The difference a day makes. Had a great cup of dark roast and a cinnamon raisin bagel that could have easily been served in NYC. The next day I went back for the exact same breakfast. The coffee was fresh and delicious. However the bagel was without a doubt day-old and stale. A fact I unfortunately did not discover until I got to the office and opened the bag — or they would have heard this face-to-face as opposed to in a Unilocal review. Yesterday’s baked goods are not an oops in the kitchen nor an accident by a server. This was a choice to keep those in the rack and serve to customers. Just unacceptable.

I found this place while staying at the Fairmont in Georgetown. I literally came here to eat 5 days in a row. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I ordered the same thing everyday. The breakfast sandwich with eggs, Avocado and bacon. I ordered it on an onion bagel instead of the croissant. You MUST try the hot sauce they have there as well. It’s called uncle brothers hot sauce. I bought some on my last day of my business trip to take home with me. Overall this place is a nice café to have coffee, breakfast or lunch. It will always be my go to place in Georgetown.

A group of three of us came here for breakfast around 8am on a Friday. It really wasn’t that busy and there were plenty of open tables. Service was slow and quite average. She brought us the wrong coffee and we had to ask for creamer three times because she kept forgetting… All three of us ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was tasty. The potatoes were good as well. I wouldn’t come out of my way to come here again though.

Nice morning coffee place. Today, the weather was great and outdoor seating was perfect. Wait staff very nice. Although it is a self-serve place for coffee, waitress offered ti get my coffee and condiments. Nice!

Mainly a breakfast and lunch me he and feel. Decent overall but they can do so much better. For example with such a business name, they should have the best bread imaginable; my breadbasket was not very fresh and very average taste. Overall it’s an ok place if you she opened to be in front of it, but not a destination.

I came here for breakfast on a Saturday. While there were a few groups it wasn’t ‘busy’ given the number of people working. I expected the service to be better than it was. I asked for decaf coffee and juice that came with the brunch option. While my husband got his coffee quickly I waited about 10 minutes before asking another waitress for mine. My waitress brought it over, but it was only about a minute before the food came out. The brunch option was $ 16. I got the big breakfast that included eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and a pastry basket. The food was okay, but the pastries were disappointing. I expect a place called bread and chocolate to have fresh, homemade pastries, but they all seemed store bought. The waitress never came by to check on us after we received the food either. Overall I would say the food and service was disappointing, especially given the price.

I’ve been here multiple times, but service today, while pleasant, was quite slow. The bread basket was stale… not our usual visit.

At first I liked this place cause of the customer service. There are usually two older guys behind the counter. Managers, I suppose. I would give this 4 stars because the coffees are okay. Typical. Nothing out of the ordinary. I do like their pastries though. Today’s customer service was average. I usually order a coffee and pastry to go. Today I actually ate in the restaurant at the counter. I ordered an original French toast and a typical coffee. The French toast could’ve been better. It has the fresh smell of gasoline to it or something. I can’t describe it. Three stars for now.

This place is cute, and has an upscale diner feel. The first time i came, I went safe and ordered the smoked salmon bagel, and the next time I tried the western omelet. Both were pretty tasty. The service was fast, which is good because both times I was there on my lunch break. I’ve never seen it get too crowded, but the space isn’t that big. They also have a bakery section which I have yet to try.

This place is very cute! A European Bakery with cute outdoor seating and flowers. What could possibly go wrong? I came here with a couple girlfriends and we sat outside and wanted to get some bread and chocolate. At first, i was a little disappointed. The bakery is called«Bread and Chocolate» and i don’t know if i was looking in the wrong place but i couldn’t find anything that had bread or chocolate on there. Its more of a breakfast and brunch place, with some side salads, soups and sandwiches. So we ended up ordering some coffee and sandwiches. I got the vanilla mocha with the turkey panini sandwich. The coffee was good, i couldn’t really taste the vanilla in there and it was very bitter but i personally like bitter coffee so i didn’t mind it. The lady that was taking our order was very rude and took forever to bring out our coffee. She almost seemed offended that she had to come outside and take our order verses taking our order inside. She brought out the sandwiches for us and the first thing i noticed was the meat inside my sandwich was cold and really hard to eat. I felt like i was trying to tear apart rubber when i bit into it. It wasn’t until later that i realized that i ordered a TURKEY panini. At first, i panicked. But then i realized that the waitress just mixed up our orders and gave me the chicken panini instead. With the sandwich you are given a side of kettle cooked chips which was sparsely scattered on my plate. As for the location, its a nice area however, we kept hearing sirens and ambulances rushing by. I thought it was just a coincidence that on that specific day everyone was getting into accidents or whatever; but it turns out that there is a fire department right across the street. Not the worst experience, but certainly not the best. Ill try going again but at a different location, maybe the one in Old Town.

Sat on the patio outside. Service was prompt. Had the spicy asian chicken salad, it was lettuce, peanut sauce and some shredded chicken(white and dark meat, not very good quality). Also tried the Strawberry, watermelon, fruit salad plus added chicken. It was literally huge strawberries and watermelon with a little lettuce. Mostly fruit. The chicken was better, chopped chicken breast. The coffee was ok.

This modern re-do of the old world dessert salon has a glassy interior and cheery atmosphere. It tries to exude an air of sophistication and it largely accomplishes that. It’s not perfection all the time, but it’s hanging in there. It has had to adjust in the face of the coffee house explosion in our country. I have seen it ebb and flow over the years, particularly with the wait staff; and it’s really been more about having enough servers on the floor rather than competency. I find that their crews are mature professionals and that their chefs generally have proven to be dependable. Bread & Chocolate’s commitment to a mostly traditional menu and the reliable execution of that food preparation is why they are still in business(for 28 years). They bake all of their goods in their own facility in Virginia. Please do not expect exceedingly speedy service. It’s supposed to be somewhat of an experience from another era. If I mentioned watercress sandwiches and lavender tea – would that help bring that time to mind?! Alas, these are not available at Bread & Chocolate, but that type of food is. The menu is thoughtful; the weekend brunch is a good deal for $ 15. Their fresh pastries include the classics and then some. Have a look at the display case. The opera cake, chocolate diamond, white chocolate mousse and tiramisu are pretty yummy. You can also pick up some bread to take home: their almond croissants are kryptonite – best in town(my opinion); the plain croissants are good; and the brioche is trustworthy. The eggs benedict selections are usually spot-on. I have been ordering them for years and there has never been a time that I was disappointed in the hollandaise sauce or egg preparation. I also enjoy the cold salads; the Norwegian smoked salmon platter is generous. There are 5 locations altogether in the DMV. I started out with the original one on M and 23rd Streets NW in DC and I still go there. I appreciate the indoor/outdoor seating choices; it’s right next to the West End Cinema. Quite a lot of the guests from the surrounding big name hotels come scurrying over for breakfast once they discover this place; it can be a virtual UN in the mornings. You can catch construction workers coming by to get some of their goodies too. The Alexandria, VA spot is charming; its manager Mansour and server Trish have wonderfully sunny dispositions and it helps that it is nicely positioned in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. I also frequent the Takoma Bistro in Takoma Park, MD. It’s a part of the Bread & Chocolate family; ownership however wants it referred to as the Takoma Bistro specifically. Its menu is the about the same as the others except for dinner, when there are more hearty dishes offered up. Tip: Pastries get discounted 50% after 4 pm M-F. They can vanish quickly. Go for an early dinner and get a delectable bargain dessert at the same time.

Overall kind of a let down. I came in with some coworkers for breakfast and had high hopes after seeing the website. The interior was uninspiring, our waitress while inoffensive provided mediocre service at best, and the men’s bathroom was on the gross side(broken toliet, overflowing garbage, dirty sink). I had the western omelet which came with ham, red pepper, tomato, onions, served with some fruit. It was okay, a touch greasy, rubbery eggs, under seasoned. The coffee was nothing special. Overall not horrible, but nothing to make it worth a second visit. DC has so many stellar breakfast joints, Bread and Chocolate needs to seriously step up their game.
