It was always a lifelong dream to learn from Emmy-award winner Reggie Wells the«Father of Makeup». However, I NEVER thought it would be attainable. That dream recently came true, when I had the honor and extreme pleasure of standing side-by-side, brush-to-brush with Reggie, as he trained and educated me one-on-one at C. Alan Signature Salon in Washington, DC. I am a professional makeup artist and instructor and have participated in numerous continuing education workshops and courses; however, I have never received training remotely close to Reggie’s approach to training. He’s an artist and his approach to teaching makeup application is from the perspective of an artist. His methodology is that of an artist painting a picture and he has a unique perspective of analyzing, customizing, accentuating and correcting a client’s face. He taught me it is just as important to assess and accentuate what is seen in the background, as it is important to assess and accentuate what is seen in the foreground. He taught me his unique perspective on how to achieve the perfect hue and value of colors. I learned a wealth of information in the time we spent together and I was so enthralled in his teaching methods; I did not want the day to end. I highly recommend his class to all those who are considering makeup as a profession, as well as those who are currently working in the beauty industry and want to learn from an artist who is a pioneer — who can teach proven methods of success. You will not be disappointed! I would personally like to thank Reggie for sharing his knowledge with me. It has only been a few days since I took his class, but I am already yielding benefits that will last for the duration of my career. I am grateful to him for the indelible impression he has left on me. Sincerely, Holly Byrd Miller Professional Makeup Artist/Educator

Booked a facial appointment with Davon. I received the best facial ever. He was so attentive and took the time to explain each application. He provided excellent customer service and suggested a monthly facial is always good just to pamper for a day of relaxation. Davon, I will be back soon. Thanks

My first review ever that’s how satisfied I am! I’m a Howard student so money is tight. Walked In to get the big chop and I was embarrassed because my hair is nappy and there was plenty of people here. They made me feel so great and told me I have nothing to worry about. As soon as you walk in your welcomed to coffee or tea which is pretty cool. I was seen by Angie(AP) and she was such a sweetheart and so is the manager actually everyone was nice. I’m from California and we pride ourselves on customer service and this salon gets an A+! I’ve been to the Howard beauty salon and she didn’t do a good job and she had me waiting for a long time. But this salon is really good check it out you won’t be disappointed

So, I was going to try to take advantage of the $ 20.00 Tuesdays next week and I phoned to make an appointment. When I mentioned that I had Natural Hair, they told me that the charge would be $ 40.00. I. Am. Outraged. As a black hair salon, how in the world are you going to charge double??? I said as much to the man on the phone and told him how tacky it was for a Black Hair Salon to charge double. He said that natural hair is harder to work with. I informed him that I have had both natural hair and relaxed hair and that wasn’t true. So they are knocking me for my genetics and choosing a healthier lifestyle when all I want is a shampoo, trim and blow out. Discrimination, plan and simple. Really disheartening. Really disappointing.

I went to Acia for the first time & was not crazy about my results. I originally went for a hair emergency because I used Dr. Miracle Deep Conditioner(NEVERAGAIN!) It completely dried my hair & ruined my curl pattern. I set up an emergency appointment since Unilocal had such great reviews about her but was disappointed. I was the last appointment of the day. They took me out of kindness because they closed at 7 pm(I was there until 8). I thoroughly detangled my hair before going since I am natural & wanted to make the job easier(I have 3b/3c mixture). But the assistant was obviously unfamiliar with dealing with natural hair & used the wrong utensils to comb through it. I’m not tender-headed but she was fairly rough. Also, she used 3 shampoos & one conditioner so it completely dried my hair out. !!! Acia blow dried my hair in a nonchalant manner, uncatering to the fact that it was natural and required seperate handling. She also trimmed my ends a little too short. I hadn’t straighened my hair in 3 months & saw significant growth. After she straightened it, I came out looking exactly the same. All in all, I feel the washing, conditioning & blow drying process was extremely poor compared to other places I’ve been to. However, now that my hair is a week old, its nice with the way I have styled it but it took a lot of work. I had to restraighten it because my roots were not straight! I feel if the washing & blow drying process were more catering for natural hair, I wouldn’t have needed so much hair chopped off. There was no heat protectant, extra conditioning, etc. So for my ladies with beautiful natural hair, BEWARE. This may not be the place to go if you want to retain moisture & keep length! That was $ 90 wasted when it was a $ 35 job. I could’ve did this at home and preserved length & moisture for my hair. *They did offer wine, and were down to earth for the most part.*

I have been going to Acia since 2010, I was refer to her by dear friend of my mother’s. And I can say I am truly impress. Everyone in there make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door. Acia is always accessible… especially when I have had hair emergencies. I always get compliments on my hair and recently the color that Acia did for my hair. Also I have gone to Marie to get my braids done here and would recommend her as well. I truly appreeciate and look forward to my experience every time I go here.

Went here for a blow-out, flat iron, and ends trimmed on natural hair, left missing an inch from a cut I didn’t need, massive clumps yanked out, possible heat damage, and a nearly $ 150 price tag. Only gave 2 stars because the hairstyle looks sleek, but was in no way worth the pain to my scalp or wallet. Will NOT be returning, period.
