I tried this place after hearing my coworkers rave about it… and all I can say now is I believe my coworkers have exceptionally bad taste. The mac and cheese was not thick and creamy as I’d expect«good» mac and cheese to be, but rather bland pasta with runny cheese sauce. Buy a mac and cheese TV dinner, crush some Cheez Its on top, and it would be the same thing this truck serves. The meat balls I also heard many things about were way too salty to be enjoyable. I would give this place 1 star, but the lady who ran the truck was very nice and welcoming.

It’s not so tasty and too expensive. I bought $ 12 mac with buffalo followed by the recommendation of the seller. It’s not so good, because cheese & mac topped with blue cheese and tabasco is too sower. In addition, it is very expensive. I was surprised when I heard the price and saw the package which is very small. I don’t recommend my friend even to try it.

I would say this is one of my favorite food trucks to get. The employees are very friendly and welcoming. I always get the Classic Mac with their chicken meatballs. Their recipe for the mac and cheese is really good compared to store brands. It has a bit more than just the normal mac and cheese, even topped it with cheez-it crumbs for a crunch to your bite. The chicken meatballs are cooked really well also, I would want the recipe for it. The only reason why I gave it four stars instead of five, it’s because the price. I know food trucks tend to up their prices so it’s not a place I would eat everyday. Classic Mac $ 8, chicken meatballs $ 3 = $ 11. Their portion looks small in the container provided, but they pack it heavily that it is very filling, and that’s coming from a person who likes to eat a lot. Every time CapMac comes to the office, I do choose to get it!

I like CapMac, but the consistency issues keep me from giving it more stars. One day I get plenty of cheesy sauce, and the next time I get noodles that are too dry. When it’s good it’s delicious– hot and gooey. Other reviewers have blasted CapMac by comparing to Kraft mac and cheese, but they’re not even close– CapMac is made from aged Wisconsin cheddar, melted with cream. Each batch is made to order, which means it’s piping hot, but probably contributes to the consistency issues. Price is $ 8, but this includes tax, so it’s only about $ 7 for the regular mac and cheese, which is reasonable IFYOUGETENOUGHCHEESE!

The recipes that Josh and his crew come up with and make are delicious. I typically get the Marco Bolo and absolutely love it. The 7th& Maryland(which has been on the menu was quite some time the last few months) is also delicious. I’m a big fan of the weekly/monthly specials that Josh rotates through. Some examples are these include the Buffalo Mac and the Al Pastor, which I think is his best creation. I love the fact that he uses fresh ingredients and rotates his menu based on what ingredients he can get at farmers markets and such(that is, for the options that aren’t the classic mac since that uses cheez-its gratings). Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out Cap Mac, especially if the truck comes to an area near you.

CapMac is glorified Kraft Mac and Cheese with Cheez Its. Calling it «glorified» is actually doing it a favor. Save yourself the disappointment and hit up an adjacent food truck. Trust me.

If you want to carbo-load CapMac has you covered, it’s pasta galore. Aside from the Classic CapMac’n Cheese(Cheddar, pimento, cheez-it crumble) they offer seasonal pasta dishes. On their website they say to check their facebook or twitter for latest updates on the seasonal menu but I didn’t see it. It would be nice to know in advanced but I guess you’ll just have to be surprised and read the sign on the truck. This week I tried, I believe, the Maryland something pasta. It was cavatappi pasta with a tomato cream sauce with crab meatballs. The pasta and sauce itself could have been a replica of jar sauce pasta you can make at home. The meatballs(about 3 – 4 a bit larger than golf ball sized) were tasty but nothing exceptionally out of this world. The wait wasn’t too long and the portion size was decent. I’m a small’ish person but I do have a big appetite. I didn’t think it was extremely filling. Overall pretty average.

I used to be thrilled when Cap Mac would come to where my office is located but my love slowly died down. I mean, they always have a really interesting variation on mac and cheese which is cool but their basic macaroni and cheese is not thrilling. It’s not cheesy enough, I’m not a huge fan of the cheez-it crumble on top and it’s a bit overpriced. I can get through about half of what they give you and then I get sick of it. I wouldn’t say that you should go seek this truck out, but if you happen to see it and you’re hungry, it isn’t too shabby.

I experienced CapMac for the first time at the Presidents’ Day Beer Bash at Union Market. I had that MarcoBolo & it was really good. Not too much sauce & it had a really nice kick to it. The people running the truck were really friendly & helpful with explaining the different dishes on their menu. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this truck when I’m looking at food trucks for lunch.

I had fond memories of this truck under its previous ownership. Several times in the year 2012, I traveled near and far to enjoy the rich cheesy deliciousness that this truck offered up. A heaping portion of comforting mac n cheese, the kind that you can’t stop eating even though your belly hurts and you know you’ll go into a food coma for hours afterward. The crushed cheezit topping adding the perfect crunchy complement to the creamy macaroni. Although temporarily wrought with grief upon hearing of its closing, I found comfort in the news that a «fan» would be taking over the business and I would once again get to enjoy it if I made my way back to the district. That day has come and I must sadly say that this truck is not what it used to be. Tasted only slightly better than microwaveable easy mac. Because I opted for the dollar upcharge to make it spicy, I got what tasted like easy mac drenched in Tabasco sauce. For good measure, they threw a few broken pieces of cheezits on top that they didn’t even bother to crush. Don’t waste your time or money folks, nothing to see here.

Some people walking past the line were asking why someone would wait in line to pay 6 dollars for mac-n-cheese when it’s «so easy to make yourself.» Well, let me tell you, it was worth it. As it was my first time, I decided to stick with the standard CapMac-n-Cheese, which features pimento, Cheez-It crumbles, and a cheddar cheese sauce. When I got to the front of the line I realized why it was taking so long. They were making the mac-n-cheese to order. Very fresh. The cheddar cheese is an excellent deviation from the classic mac-n-cheese, and the pimento gives the cheese a great flavor. And the Cheez-It crumbles? Brilliant. So brilliant that I wish that I had come up with it myself. It’s like putting potato chips on a sandwich, but mac-n-cheese style. Mmm… crunchy. Definitely worth the wait, and very comforting on such a cold, windy day. Let me remind you of a conversation between Homer and Lisa. Homer: It feels like food, but it has no flavor whatsoever! What is it? Lisa: Mac and cheese from the school cafeteria. The blandest food known to man. This is the exact opposite of CapMac-n-Cheese. CapMac-n-Cheese is very flavorful and cozy.

My life was changed by the mac & cheese I had from CapMac today. $ 10 will get you a hefty serving of fresh mac & cheese«porked», which means that there’s beer braised brisket mixed in(yes, beer!) with a sprinkling of crushed cheez-its on top. I am drooling all over again just from writing this review. The brisket has a kick to it, which made my mac & cheese a little spicy and exciting. I also liked the crunch from the cheez-it sprinkles. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the cheese wasn’t too overwhelming. I could barely finish the portion they gave me and am very much looking forward to the leftovers. They also have a «balls out» option if you would like meatballs instead. My coworker said they were delicious. The special right now involves butternut squash, cranberries, and some other fall produce but I know that they change it up based on the season. I will say that I was pretty thirsty afterwards so there must have been a decent amount of sodium/salt thrown in — nonetheless, my meal was delicious and I would definitely go back.

Decided to give this a try even though many reviews were mediocre. I ordered the classic mac with the chicken meatballs. Serving size appears small at first but the food is heavy and fills you up quick. My first bite tasted good(a mild cheesy/smokey flavor), but then I was hit by a wave of salt. As I continued to eat, the salt became more and more overpowering, until I couldn’t stomach anymore and had to throw the last bit out. As for the chicken meatballs, they too suffer from too much salt. They taste strongly of herbs, and the salt makes that flavor overpowering. Overall, I don’t feel what I got was worthy of the $ 10 I spent. The flavors were average and the salt was overpowering. I’m currently drinking a bottle of water to make the salt flavor and feeling go away.

Spotted the CapMac truck at the Montgomery County fair last month. After reading a story about them in the Washington post, I wanted to give it a try. First off, let me say that $ 8 for their basic, small macaroni and cheese, is an insane amount to pay for what is essentially a side dish. The other two versions of the mac and cheese had some meatballs or pieces of chicken in it, and was priced at $ 10. Figuring that this was going to be the best mac and cheese on earth, I splurged and got the basic $ 8 plate. I waited for at least 5 minutes for my mac and began wondering why it was taking so long. Isn’t a food truck supposedly so busy that they are constantly cooking and ready to serve? If I hadn’t already regretted my decision, then the small brown container filled with mac & cheese finally sealed the deal. I had just paid $ 8 for a side dish, based on hype. I wanted to go back in time and punch myself in the face for buying this. How could these people have the balls to charge $ 8 for small basic mac and cheese, sprinkled with some crushed cheez-its on top? If you had just crawled out of the desert, and hadn’t eaten in weeks, $ 5 may seem like a suitable price for what I was handed out of the food truck window, but I’m still not convinced. Did they have to jack up the prices to make up for whatever they were charged to park on the fairgrounds? Clearly, they had no sympathy for the folks that paid $ 10 just to walk through the gates to the fair. Instead, I guess they figured people were in a spending mood, but there is really no way to justify charging what they did for round pasta and some cheese. Want to pull a great trick on the folks of CapMac? I think we can beat their recipe for a fraction of the price. Start with $ 3. Go to the supermarket. Buy a box, any box, of macaroni and cheese. Boil the pasta. Drain when ready. Add the cheese. Mix it up. Crush some crackers on top. Take a bite with one hand, and give the middle finger to CapMac with the other. Sure, this is a small battle in the world of comfort foods, but you just won, and you have leftovers.

WHATDOTHEYPUTINTHEMACANDCHEESE!!! This place is addicting and I am in love. The mac and cheese is freshly made. The taste is cheesy, slightly crunchy, maybe even spicy? Whatever I love it. The serving at first glance seems small, but trust me that brown box is DEEP! I can’t finish it all in one meal. One thing I don’t love is the long line of all the Farragut Square lunchers who get out before me. I can live with it though.

This place takes FOREVER to put mac and cheese in a box. Are they boiling each batch fresh when you order? That seems silly. The mac itself is very, very good. Don’t let the little brown box fool you — it’s a bigger slice of mac than you think, and it’ll leave you sleepy full. The mac is made with pimento cheese, so it’s substantially cheesy and a bit spicy. Good flavor. Is more like a baked mac, and I really prefer more of a saucy mac that isn’t baked, but this is still good. Just not anything to blow you all the way away. The most genius part of this mac is that the crumbles on top are Cheez It crackers. That Cheez-It dust adds a great flavor blast and a crunchy contrast to chewy mac. I really liked that. Worth the wait and money? No, it’s mac and cheese. You can make it at home. Steal their Cheez-It idea and run. But CapMac is definitely worth trying just once.

I got the original mac and cheese with balls on the outside. It was good but my only complaint was that the«balls» had more filling(stuffing/bread) than I would have liked. I took a bite of it and it tasted more mushy than meaty. But the macaroni had good bite and I liked the crumbs of chez-its on the top. it gave the dish good crunch. I thought the portion was small, but it weighed heavy in my hands. Turns out the portion is more than enough because it really filled me up! This place is also great because they accept credit cards. Whoo hoo!
