Really fresh and yummy. They pay attention to the freshness and the quality — the mushroom was SOGOOD. Tried their«shrubs» which is homemade soda — so good! Slightly overpriced for being a «cheap eat» but totally worth the splurge. I left feeling satisfied but not weighed down.

The food was good, but I wish I got more for my money. I had to buy 6 tacos($ 22) to become sated. Keep an eye on the preparation, accidents with the cheese can happen. They will gladly make it over again for you, if necessary. I just wish the food didn’t have to be wasted.

Chaia is such a welcome addition to Georgetown café/restaurant/bakery scene. Their tacos are both healthy and delicious — especially creamy kale & potato. They also offer fresh cold pressed juices & my favorite is apple spinach juice. Chaia is a must-try — especially for vegetarians & clean eaters!

Oh my gosh, YES! This place! It’s just a nice spot in Georgetown. Not an overwhelming menu — 5 taco options, some sides, and drinks. Between my husband and I, we tried everything, and it was all amazing. Our favorites were the creamy kale + potato and the roasted beet tacos.(I did find myself wishing the beet taco had goat cheese — maybe next time.) I love good, simple, real food. This place checks all those boxes, plus exceeded my expectations for what I’d find going in.

Chaia is one of the few places that can actually manage to make kale taste good… and in my book, that alone is enough to give it a 5-star rank. The ingredients are fresh, the tacos are flavorful, & the atmosphere is light & airy. Aside from a scarcity of seating, Chaia has all of the elements that make up a great taco joint; even on par with its meaty, cheesy counterparts(looking at you, MXDC and El Centro). My go-to favorite is the creamy kale & potato taco, with a side of their jalapeño crema topped black beans. But really, you can’t go wrong with anything here.

Chaia got it right with all of the flavors they somehow manage to cram into each of these vegetarian tacos. The menu is small, but that’s ok with how much thought has been put into getting each item on the menu busting with flavor and keeping all the ingredients super fresh. The employees are nice, the service is quick, and the prices seem extremely reasonable for Georgetown and the quality you recieve. Chaia is one of those restaurants where you can leave feeling good about what you just ate and a great/stress free place to eat at with all your friends who have dietary restrictions during a day of shopping and fun in Georgetown!

As a self-proclaimed carnivore, I cant believe I’m saying this, but these tacos are so amazing I forgot that there was no meat! I ordered the potato and kale tacos and found them filling, delightful, and flavorful. Additionally, the work atmosphere seems like a positive one where employees seem happy and friendly. This is a place for meat-eaters and veggie lovers alike. I hope they continue to expand their menu!

I wish I had a better way to say this but I’m going to keep it simple — Chaia is perfect. Ever since it opened last November, I’ve been wanting to try their tacos. And after having lunch here today, I’m beating myself up for not coming sooner. We showed up around 12:40pm and the line was long but it moved fairly fast. Seating’s limited but it seemed like a lot of people were taking their food to go so my party of 2 had no problem finding a table upstairs. Today we tried all 5 of their tacos and every single one was absolutely delicious. It’s incredible how simple vegetables can be so packed with flavors. If I had to rank them, creamy kale & potato was my favorite, followed by smoky greens tied with zucchini. The mushroom taco comes at 4th because it was a tad salty for my very very bland palette. Then the beet taco but just because I’ve been making a lot of roasted beet at home. OHWAIT, I lied. The black beans with jalapeño cream side was sooooooooooooo delicious that it would have to be #1. Driving into Georgetown and finding parking is awful but Chaia makes it worth the headache!

Wonder unique tacos, expensive but quality ingredients. There is outdoor seating around the corner so you can take your meal to go, especially helpful if you have children and want some fresh air. We tried the mushroom taco, kale and potato, and roasted beet and they were all delicious and extremely flavorful. I wish they were bigger! My toddler was a fan of the green rice which was also very flavorful. Seasonal shrubs drink was refreshing and perfect for a hot spring day.

I tried these vegetarian tacos at the recommendation of my daughter and was hesitant at first as I didn’t think they would be very filling. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful they were. I ordered 3; mushroom, creamy kale and potato and smoky collard greens. Loved the creamy kale and potato and would try this place again.

I’m an omnivore, and Chaia definitely blew my mind. The menu is very limited, but incredibly satisfying. You can’t go wrong with any of the tacos. The portions are extremely filling(the taco trio is enough!), and the food is oh-so-flavorful! I’m also addicted to their green rice side.(My fave taco is the creamy kale + potato as well as the mushroom.) The staff will always inquire if it’s your first time eating there — so it’s really nice that they offer to walk you through their menu. In addition to the flavorful food, be sure to grab a seat upstairs. If you’re lucky and it’s quiet, it’s a serene haven with gorgeous natural light, minimalist décor, and windows that open up to a tidy rooftop. If you’re a meat-eater, you don’t have to avoid this place. It’s delicious.

OMG, I have been wanting to try this place for so long. I finally had the opportunity to try them for my birthday when a friend I had visiting from out of town wanted to check out Georgetown. We weren’t very hungry so we actually ordered the trio to sample and share. We ordered: Creamy Kale and Potato Smokey Greens Roasted Butternut Squash They were all really good. All the ingredients are super fresh. And tasty. Definitely worth the price! Cute little establishment with nice seating on the upper level. Definitely coming back again!

So I have previously reviewed Chaia in all of its farmer’s markets glory, and continue to enjoy it, but I do have a large qualm. The store is clearly adorable, and I love the way they made use of the space. Turning a small Georgetown house into a restaurant was probably much harder to pull off then we think, so props to that. Also love that there is additional seating upstairs, since all of the times I have visited it has been pretty crowded. All of the tacos are vegetarian, with the option to make them vegan. The problem I have is that they cost the same amount, with or without cheese, and they don’t add anything extra to the vegan tacos. So essentially, I am paying $ 3.75 per taco, when it only has 2⁄3 of the ingredients(in some cases, 1⁄3). I ordered a side of pickled jalepenos for mine so I could have some sort of fancy extra, and still had to pay the $ 1.50. I feel like a nice concession would be to offer those for free. Also, avocado would also be a addition. Or daiya cheese. Or dairy-free pesto. Honestly anything to not make me feel like I am paying $ 11 for what amounts to a snack. I’ll admit that the obsession with protein in this country is through the roof, and people think they need a LOT more than they actually do, but a corn taco shell filled with asparagus and not much else is not going to keep you full for long. Maybe include an option to add a scoop of black beans? I want to keep loving Chaia, but as someone who tries to stick to a vegan diet before 6pm(thanks, Mark Bittman!) this just isn’t going to properly satiate me, especially not after a strenuous spin or barre class. After all, I could head down the street and have a massive Chipotle vegan burrito bowl for almost half the price and enough food to last me two meals. Food for thought.

You probably know a few of those new-agey«healthy bowl» places in the city that will throw a mixture of kale, broccoli, tofu, and quinoa, together with some bland topping and sell you false promises of corporeal nirvana. Without the wisdom and spices of great cooking traditions, their offerings often taste woefully underwhelming. Not here. Chaia offers a unique niche where«old world» real food meets modern vegan sensibilities. This small taco café gets healthy and flavorful jumbled just right. With its fast plating options, yet without the truly lip-numbing chiles of Mexico, Chaia effectively plays cool riffs and innovative jazz on a Mexican palate. Chaia offers deep flavors, honest-to-goodness, «farm to table» ingredients, and fully uses the rich authenticity of Mexican cooking. The tacos are stuffed with wholesome, seasonal vegetables such as asparagus and butternut squash, real cheese, seeds, chiles, spices, perfect sauces, and pickled lemons and onions. On a massive griddle behind the counter, corn tortillas are being freshly-made throughout, so you are always getting the benefit of the hot-iron toasted taste. After you eat their tacos, you feel healthy and satisfied without a heavy sinking feeling in your stomach. Big in flavor minus the weight of oil and butter, I un-self-consciously describe them as «fantastic». The tacos are built behind the glass counter with such concoctions as, «smokey greens», «asparagus with poblanos», «butternut squash», «mushrooms and cilantro», «kale and potatoes». I can’t wax eloquently enough about how deeply satisfying to the palate it is to savor skillfully-cooked or roasted vegetables that retain their crunch and color, suffused with smoky flavors, and tossed with garlic, chiles, herbs, and pickled lemons. The tacos are finished with garnishes that add a perfect piquant or herby accent, including items such as marinated red onions, Mexican cheese, radishes, watercress?, microgreens? and flavorful sauces that offer a spin on salsas. To accompany the taco, they offer beer and wine and«shrub» drinks. I don’t know what«shrub» drinks are exactly. They sound vegan don’t they? I tried the strawberry rhubarb, and my taste buds felt like they floated up to heaven. I would definitely recommend you do your body and your tongue right, and try out a vegan taco here. Or, three, for the steal of $ 11.

Easily the best tacos I’ve had. 5 stars is not enough to explain how amazing this place is. My best friend recently moved to DC and kept raving about these vegetarian tacos, so obviously, after our grueling early morning workout, we headed here for lunch. Think simple ingredients, bold /delicious flavors. I got two tacos — creamy kale & potato + the mushroom/feta/red sauce taco with scrambled eggs(extra $ 1.50). You can also do 3 tacos for ~$ 11 which is a great deal. Also these tacos aren’t huge — 3 is an easy number to kill. What I loved was how inventive their recipes were — when I think tacos, I think guac, beans, corn, etc. These recipes were nothing like that — ingredients like creamy kale, potatoes, pickled onions, chipotle yogurt… the list goes on. I will absolutely be back! Tips: +Get 3 tacos +Add the mango habanero sauce, it’s +Walk around beautiful Georgetown after

Five stars doesn’t do this justice to us. Clean and bright place, over the top happy staff and great food. The staff took the time to explain and discuss the menu, we were obviously rookies. Tried three orders of tacos and three sides. It was all great. Favorites were the asparagus abs the mushroom tacos. We had three of their homemade organic sodas and one beer, the Wit. All three were delicious. We’ll be back before our visit here ends. Thumbs up! Unilocal wants more here but what I’ve written sums up our great experience!!!

Chaia Oh Chaia, you’re so charming! Located in the heart of Georgetown, Chaia is a new age taco shop with a conscious approach to food. Wait, I thought tacos had to be covered in cheese and contain animal proteins? Not at Chaia! Vegetarians rejoice and vegans, you were not forgotten about. All of their tacos are veg. I was told on my first of many visits to come that all of their tacos besides the potato kale could be made vegan. Simple ingredients with bold flavors. They’re the perfect weekend lunch as they’re portable and can be taken with you to the water front. A welcomed addition to Georgetown, taco lovers unite!

Awesome farm to table tacos… The tortillas were really good. We tried the mushroom, asparagus, creamy kale + potato and smoky greens. All were delish but the mushroom and kale potato tacos stood out for us and were really yummy. We went with a vegan trio, a regular trio and the pear cucumber spinach juice which was really refreshing. The place itself is very cute, casual and comfortable. Great spot for a quick bite and worth a trip to Georgetown. The highlights are that they use local and seasonal ingredients. Plus they compost! I asked the cashier if the corn was organic and although she confirmed that it is, one can’t be 100% certain as its not advertised on their website. Overall, a 5 star experience for me… Will be back for sure.

It’s Taco Thursday, but if it were up to me I’d eat Chaia’s tacos every single day. All of the tacos are plant-based using seasonal, local ingredients that run the gamut from kale and potato, to butternut squash, to tender green asparagus and much more! Gluten allergy? No worries! All of their tacos are made with a tasty and pliable corn tortilla. Pregnant? All of their cheese –even the chevre– is pasteurized! To top it off they sell a variety of freshly brewed iced teas(try the hibiscus mint, it’s to die for!) and they have succulents and sunlight in every single corner. If they allowed me to live here, I totally would. The counter person was super friendly in guiding me through the menu and my tacos were delivered less than two minutes after I ordered. I’m not a black bean fan but their little bowl with jalapeño crema on top was heavenly. I’ll be getting all my greens here all summer long. PROTIP: There is a small little courtyard right next door with some small tables if you want to get some extra sunshine with your tacos.

Absolutely, positively impressed! After the rain, I spontaneously decided to spend an evening out on a date night with myself. Wanted delicious, affordable food with a good ambiance — willing to sacrifice the latter, if need be. Happened upon their sign on the sidewalk as I exited Patagonia, but initially wrote it off because the exterior looked dark, closed off, and drab. Also, I’m not a vegetarian. But… When I looked up «restaurants nearby» on Unilocal, this was in the top three with 4.5÷5 star reviews! Well, ok, then! Also, farm-to-taco sounded good. It was Aarti B.‘s review that sold me.(Read hers; it will encompass details mine will miss.) When I entered, I was stunned by the bright light! Boy, was I wrong in it being dark & drab. Quite the opposite! Even the loo was decorated beautifully. Clean, simple, practical design. Everything about this venue was designed well for both form and function, as well as fashion. It’s like being in Central or Northern Europe, where practical and pretty are intertwined; no compromises on either. Love it. After careful consideration and a conversation inquiring about recommendations, even though I dislike asparagus, I ordered it because I was sold on the lemon preserves. Good decision. I also ordered the butternut squash and mushroom. The former was fantastic; the latter was not my favorite. Will be back to try others. Especially glad to read they have seasonal options. Also… Ordered the pear spinach cucumber pressed juice. Delicious! Loved the upstairs. Check out my photos!

«The best vegetarian place for non-vegetarians.» This was advertised on one of their signs in Georgetown and I agree! Although I’m not a vegetarian, I love my veggies but I dragged my meat-loving friend here and I could tell he was very hesitant to try this place out. We ordered 3 tacos: the mushroom, the creamy kale + potatoes and the asparagus + green garlic. It was 3 for $ 11. We liked them all but my favorite was the creamy kale and his was the asparagus. We usually don’t the like corn tortillas that much but the corn tortillas here were good. My friend was surprised about how much he liked this place and we both said we will be back. I love me some delicious and healthy tacos!

I was excited when I heard that a new taco shop had opened up in Georgetown. When I went, I got the Creamy Kale and Potato taco with pepperjack cheese, poblano crema, green sauce and onions. I also got the Green Rice side, which contains brown rice, herb pesto and feta cheese. Both were absolutely delicious! I would HIGHLY recommend the place. The ingredients are fresh, healthy and good quality. It was busy inside and we had to wait a few minutes for a table, however it was January and cold outside. In the spring or summer it would have been easy to sit on a bench outside and enjoy our food there. Will 100% be back. Not too expensive either. You can order by the taco and mix and match flavors. Each taco is $ 1.50

I really like the concept of a farm-to-table vegetarian taco bar, and Chaia delivers it well. The shop itself is very visually appealing, with a upscale yet casual feel. The food is great — even without meat, Chaia delivers awesome flavors. However, it is definitely on the pricey side, with 3 tacos at $ 11. I tried the butternut squash, mushroom & feta, and creamy kale & potatoes tacos. I liked the butternut squash the best. It had a nice, sweet, toasty taste and was stuffed full to the brim. The mushroom was outstanding too, with a very savory marinade. The kale & potato was my least favorite of the three, and I didn’t really taste any potato in there. I shared an order of 3 tacos as a snack and definitely wasn’t full afterwards, but I can see a full order being a satisfying light lunch. Overall, I enjoyed the food here and would come again!

I’m always excited when vegetarian options open, and though I kept hearing about Chaia, never made it to the farmers markets they sold at. I finally made it to their brick and mortar, and couldn’t be more pleased. The tacos are fantastic. Not only are the filling combos interesting, they are truly delicious. Also, Chaia does not skimp on the fillings. I’ve had a variety of tacos and my favorites are the winter squash and the carrot and pea shoots. I normally don’t like winter squash, but it was well-seasoned. I was also leery of the carrot version – I mostly chose it because I’m obsessed with pea shoots – but the flavor was great, and I liked the texture contrast as well. The tortillas are some of the best I’ve had. I wish they sold those. I also had what they call a shrub – some type of tonic drink. The most recent was sour cherry, and I really liked it. Staff is friendly, and while I’ve only sat downstairs, Chaia has a warm, welcoming ambience. I might hate Georgetown, but I love Chaia.

I’ve been meaning to try Chaia since they reached out to me on Instagram awhile back. The day I went was a hot day so I was excited for some refreshing tacos and juice. The place is fairly small, but the line to order moved quickly. We had a large order in front of us so it took some time to get our tacos made. Luckily, we got a table quickly too. I got the beets, kale and potatoes, and cabbage tacos. My favorite was probably the kale and potatoes. I thought it had the most flavor. My cousin thought the beets taco was the best because of the sauce they used. The cabbage taco was the most bland and the least filled, but it wasn’t bad. The juice we both got was the apple mint juice. I thought it was refreshing and delicious. Definitely a lot pricier than Cava’s juice though.

Cool spot to grab a veggie based taco but nothing special. Shop is very bright, with two levels for your in dining pleasure. Bathroom is single and unisex and was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly, my interaction was limited to the woman taking the orders and she was nice enough. Food was just okay, I went with the market trio, three tacos of your choosing from their five or six options. I went with a winter squash, decent flavor but nothing too powerful, mushroom which was the best of the bunch and creamy kale and potato, also decent flavor but nothing out of this world. Glad there are healthy veggie taco options but Chaia other than being a unique taco place isn’t anything special in terms of the taste of their food, I’d go again but wouldn’t go out of the way to make it happen.
