Cross State Moving

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I am not someone to leave a review but I have never felt so vulnerable and screwed over in any transaction. I moved from DC to Austin, TX. I called the company before my move and told them every item I had to send to Austin. I was quoted 1,200 dollars. When they came to pick it up they were 7 hours late. Yes 7 hours. They had said the truck broke. Because they were so late they were very rushed to get the items. Please note that I paid for the service for them to pack up my items as well… I actually packed my own stuff so they had a much easier job then intended. They got to my place and said my couch alone would be the 1200 dollars to take to Dallas. 1200 for my couch? Then they refused to take most my items because they said they were tired and had a long day. Meanwhile, the workers were speaking in Spanish about me the whole time. Little did they know I’m fluent in Spanish. I ended up having to beg them to put my items on the truck. In fact I had to put the items on the truck myself. They also decided to stop putting tags on my items near the end… The result: my most expensive and favorite painting never made it to Austin.
Once my stuff was on the truck they told me it would cost another thousand dollars. What choice did I have? I had to be out of my apartment by that day. They were hours late and I had no choice. I already had to pay them 1000 (in cash meantime because they won’t accept cash… This was weird but I had no choice). It was the most terrible experience.
I called to speak to customer service and their customer service is nonexistent. This place is literally a scam. There is no one to speak to and once they have your items they don’t give a shit about you because they know they have your stuff and what the hell are you going to do.
Then let’s talk about once I got to Austin. They would never update me when my stuff was coming. I would call them and they would say «we don’t know – sorry we don’t call and update until the movers are in your area. Well I work a job and getting a random call as to when they are coming with not even a general idea is not feasible. Meanwhile they call to tell me they are in the area and should be at my place the next morning. Note this is two weeks after my noted move in date and I was sleeping on a blow up mattress. I took work off and they did not end up showing up due to «truck issues» and «an angry customer who was cursing them out». First of all, the fact that they told me this is completely unprofessional. Don’t get me wrong— I totally understand why the person was so frustrated and mad.
I had to take the next day of work. They come four hours late the next day. Upon arriving at my apartment the guy says that his truck is too big to fit into my apartment complex. I had got the word and pre-​approval from my apartment complex prior to this 18 wheeler coming. My building staff had told me that it is common for 18 wheelers in our complex.
Now that the truck driver said his truck is too big to fit into the complex, he gave me two options…
I could pay another 500 dollars in addition to the 1300 dollars cash I had to pay upon delivery so they could transfer my stuff to a smaller truck OR they could drop my stuff at Home Depot and I could go myself and pack it into a uhaul and move myself. Now– I’m a single 25 year old female with health issues (hence the reason I paid for the movers to take the physical stress off myself) so I had no choice but to pay the additional 500 bucks.
Now I ended up paying around 3000 for a quoted 1200 dollar job.
I have called to ask for my missing art pieces and they said I had to send in a claims form. They sent me the paperwork after I called them multiple times. I filled in the forms and scanned them back to them. They make everything as difficult as possible and they tell me it can only be sent by mail. So I did it. 5 weeks later no response. I call and call them and they say they can only tell me the status via snail mail. Long story short they basically were like «screw you» when they said I could claim for $ 12.00 for my large 400 dollar painting. It’s literally an insult. I just want my piece of art.
Anyways I could go on and on about this terrible company.
NEVER USE THEM. I actually had seen poor reviews before using them so I admit it is my fault that I still used them. I asked them about their poor reviews prior to using them and they explained that it was due to their groupon and a misunderstanding and that the issues only applied to their local moves. Ya right!
Again NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. It is such a terrible feeling to be so scammed and vulnerable.

YOU WANT TO AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.
We were actively scammed by this company resulting in a move that cost twice the estimate. They guaranteed a certain delivery date, two weeks later we were still waiting for our stuff. When he complained, we were hit up for another $ 500 and had to rent a UHaul to go to a neighboring town to collect our furniture which arrived damaged.
Note this company has an «F» report card from the Better Business Bureau which has received 43 complaints about them so far this year.
Note how many bad reviews this company has received and the few enthusiastic five star ones. Anyone think those five star reviews are for real?

I made the mistake of not reading any reviews before buying the groupon deal for this company. Initially, Alfonse was very helpful in setting up the move and explaining the fee to me. I told him i had 1 room to move and where i was moving and he said the move can easily be done in 2 hours. Moving day arriaved and my movers arried 40min late. I should have know it woulld be down hill from there. They movers complained that they had done 2 previous jobs earlier that day as to say they were going to be slow or unable to do a good job. They spent more time chatting… playing with my dogs… refusing to lift the heavy items… and disappearing. I called and emailed to complain while the move took place. No one got back to me and i was charged over 200 dollars more than I should hav ebeen charged. I called the next morning to follow up on the complaint and the supervisor (SAM) was extremely rude as if my complaint was unfounded and ridiculous. He said everyone who uses a coupon complains etc. Completely ignored my complaint until i told him i have video evidence. It was horrible. Spend your money elsewhere. .the coupon isn’t worth it!

I think we should be able to give less than 1 star ratings after dealing with companies like this …
1) I was given a quote over the phone. Nothing about my goods had changed come the day of the move but mysteriously when they «packed» the truck my bill was almost $ 1000 more than my estimate. I kindly told them to remove everything off the truck and put it on the curb. I KNEW I should have went with my instincts then but he «rearranged» some stuff and said he would be able to talk to the driver about why its marked at one line and weighing something different and quoted me a different price.
2) Unlike the other reviewers on here, the movers that showed up were quick but they didn’t break ANYTHING down as I was instructed they would do. They sat there and watched me struggle trying to break down beds and ONLY helped when there was a screw that would not come loose. I suspect this was a ploy to add more time to the job.
3) Sam — the owner who isn’t the owner who is sometimes the rude tail manager but will be the owner will you threaten to sue or not pay him, was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO against me having my items shipped immediately to California and put in a UHAUL storage container until I found a place. Again … not trusting my instincts … and this is where the madness began!!!
When I arrived in California I found a place within 3 days so I called Sam and gave him my new address. He repeatedly told me that I would have my items within a 21 day window. Did I ever hear from him or anyone at this company again after that? No. I had to call myself on a daily basis in order to get status updates on when the delivery date would be. When I made this move I left my daughter behind with family so I needed to have concrete answers in order to know when I could go back and get her and transition her into this move as well. It wasn’t until around day 12 or so that I began to reach my level of frustration and Sam and I had a huge screaming session on the phone. What you will learn about him if you are crazy enough to use this company is that he is rude, nasty, condescending, disrespectful as all hell, doesn’t value to customer and has this persona about him that says «I can do what I want because I still have a business». Ironically after threatening to not pay him and have my family come to his location in MD and take my goods out of his warehouse, the next days he calls saying there is a truck headed to California and my stuff would be on it. I reminded him that he is cutting is close because he only has about 9 days left on that 1 – 21 delivery day window he keeps shoveling down people’s throats and after that I get to reduce what I am paying him for delivery of goods each day its late.
I was supposed to get a call from the driver 24 –48 hours in advance of delivery. Never received a call so I called Sam to see if he knew what was going on and he calmly said to me «That truck broke down in Texas earlier this week». As I sat in silence for a while, I had some choice words for Sam and his response «I don’t owe you an explanation about what goes on with my company». My items are on an abandoned truck and I don’t have the right to ask you any questions. At this point I had everyone in my phone book calling him daily harassing him about my stuff. That’s how livid I was. When a replacement truck was found a secretary that I never knew existed called me and gave me their and another delivery date. At this point I figured this was more BS. Part of me never believed a truck had ever left the first time but I couldn’t prove anything otherwise. To my surprise I received my items on a Sunday in July. WELL what I THOUGHT were all of my items. At this very moment I don’t have a bed. Why you ask? Part of me thinks Sam purposely didn’t pack huge, can’t miss them if you tried, columns for my bed. The screws to my ENTIRE bed were taped in those columns. So at this moment I don’t have a constructed bed. Thanks Sam!!! That bed wasn’t even 2 years old. They also completely stripped my daughter desk. No idea how that was done.
What they make you do is go on a website and submit a claim with all these attached documents and supposedly a middle man goes between us to resolve it and they pay me for my lost and damaged goods. Have I been paid yet??? I am sure you know the answer to that. Will they every reimburse me? Probably via a court order.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR… RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!! Unless you want to be lied to, cheated, scammed, spoken to rudely, disrespected and overcharged for piss poor moving service.

Sam is rude and unprofessional. He was pushy and the only selling point was that I would have a bad experience with other moving companies. He even hung up on me when I called to cancel because I didn’t feel comfortable with all the additional charges Cross State has.

Some guy named Sam was just incredibly nasty to me on the phone after I questioned why their quote was so high. He tried to convince me that the other quotes I received from other companies were packed with hidden fees and I couldn’t possibly not need my stuff packed for me. I’m sorry but $ 600 to move the contents of a 1 bedroom apt across town is outrageous. I would not recommend anyone call these people. They’re unprofessional and rude.

The movers got to my place on time. They were very cordial and worked very hard to keep the move at a nice pace. They were careful with my furniture and also went out of their way to ensure that certain pieces were wrapped up nicely so they wouldn’t break. I would definitely recommend Cross State Moving to others! Thanks guys!

We booked Cross State Moving at the very last minute, we had trouble with previous movers we had booked and called Cross State on a whim, luckily they were able to fit us in right when we needed! They showed up right on time – ETA was between 2 and 4pm and they showed up right at 2:30, even called to tell me they were 10 minutes away. Alex and his team were great; very friendly and very efficient throughout the entire process. They wrapped everything as needed and took great care of all of our furniture and belongings.
The quote was accurate however the move itself took much longer than what we expected so it ended up being much more expensive than we had planned.
All-in-all.we had a great experience with them and would highly recommend them to anyone planning a move.
Update: I’m only updating this because Cross State moving offers 1% cash back on your moving costs when you write a review. So, as above, I wrote a review, and submitted my review to them. Granted, 1% cash back, really is not that much at all, but the thing is, they offer 1% cash back on your ESTIMATE not your actual cost. For me, my estimate was $ 556 (and that’s only because I was including a GroupOn). When I booked the actual move I was no longer using a groupon, so my final cost for the move was $ 1326. Again, not a huge difference but when your cost of moving is substantially different from what they quoted — it doesn’t really make sense. Plus I had to go back to them twice to follow up on the actual cash back.

The team at Cross State is amazing. Our account manager Sam was incredibly helpful with getting us scheduled when the previous moving company changed our move date 3 days before our move. Leo and his team arrived on time, were courteous, and careful with our belongings. The free boxes were definitely a plus. They made the process extremely smooth. I compared other movers with prices and services and found Cross State to have the best combination. Thank you so much

Horrible Customer Service from one of the managers who came to help the movers. Insanely rude. Would never ever recommend them to anyone.

Movers were prompt and professional. I appreciated the fact that they were haste given the fact that we were limited to a 3 hour moving window. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of movers, whether local or long distance.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! They caused damage to a few of my items and, although their insurance underwriter has agreed to a settlement, Cross State is refusing to comunicate with me. It has been about 10 months and no payment yet! Very poor communicators, now and during the move (2 days late without asw much as a phone call).

i wouldn’t wish these guys on my worst enemy. slimy, sleezy and careless. killed some of my walls, and the storage is nasty facility. guys smoking around your stuff and eyeing up what they want to take from you. do yourself a favor and pay a little extra and go with someone else.
