This place is great! I will follow up with a more detailed review, however, I placed an order for 50 roti’s and not only did they deliver them before the scheduled time, the roti’s were great!

I enjoy the loaves of fresh bread that I purchase here. Tonight, I tried the fish with rice and a side of cabbage. It was delicious! I felt compelled to leave a positive review on Unilocal.Just tried the coconut roll and it’s great too.

Gosh, it is so good. Randomly discovered this place while I was waiting for my car to get detailed, across the street. My love story with Crown Bakery started with their beef patties and we got married soon after I went to their weekend brunch. A bit pricy for a buffet considering the limited selection of foods, but the little that’s there is excellent and the staff is amazingly friendly.

Great deserts! The curry roti chicken needed more seasoning and salt. Great service and good people.

This is one instance in my Unilocal life where that food wasnt slap your momma good but the overall service and experience was so AMAZING that made the food taste even better. My journey began with late to plan Mother’s Day brunch plans. Friday afternoon Im looking and Unilocaling and message boarding… where can I go for Mothers Day brunch buffet. My go to spot Founding Farmers had been booked up since like a week ago… Finally someone suggested Crown Bakery. I would scrolled right past it in my quest. Crown Bakery? Caribbean food? I was so sick and tired of being treated like sh! t whenever i go to these establishments(read my three Sweet Mango Café reviews) I was a bit hesitant. Anyway I took a chance and made reservations for Sunday at 1:15 Im walking through the neighborhood. Omg its like I never left Jordan Park in St Pete, FL(can we say GHETTO?) lol Who cares that means the food is probably bangin. I walk upstairs to a pleasantly decorated upstairs dining area. Feels like Im in Jamaica in the kitchen of my Auntie’s house. Black portraits and paintings are strew about the walls and a lovely Trinidadian woman greets me and my eyes feast on epitome of Caribbean cuisine. escoveitch Fish, Brown stew chicken, rice and peas, fried plantains, bakes, Calalloo, codfish, macaroni pie, fruit, rainbow cake, UGH Ive died and gone to West Indian heaven. The Trini hostess was very accomedating, pleasant and sweet. THey had an attendant behind the buffet bar and a «buckler»(insider). Rum Punch and Pineapple punch were included. The food was lacking a little bit in salt and bold flavor(maybe its a trini thing) im used to. Jerk Pit’s food is taste more bold like im used to but too much attitude from the cashier. All in all if I wanna impress my American friends Ill bring them here for brunch. And for only $ 20 bucks its a really good deal. My Jamaican friends IDK if theyd fall in love with it. But its worth a try…

I’m not even going to give this place any stars. I’m always looking for authentic Caribbean food annnd this just isn’t it. Either something is wrong with the previous reviewers taste buds or today just wasn’t a good day for them. I got a stew chicken dinner, with vegetable rice and cabbage. NOTHING was seasoned, the best thing was the cabbage. The chicken had a weird taste to the point honestly I threw the whole thing away.

Ever since we visited T&T a couple of years ago, we have been obsessed with Trini food and music. We noticed the sign driving on Georgia Ave and stopped in last night to pick up some food — we were there around 7pm and already a lot of the good stuff was sold out, such as the goat curry and oxtail stew. That is a good sign! We ended up with Bronx chicken stew and chicken curry with rice and beans, plantains, and callaloo. Delicious. And huge portions for $ 8.50 an entrée, I have a second dinner from it for sure. We also got some coco bread and coconut/currant pastries. The BEST part is that they have doubles! on Fridays and Saturdays so we are coming back this weekend to get our fix. Can’t wait!

Crown Bakery is more than baked goods. It also offers carefully-prepared, hot Caribbean foods every day that it is open for business. I feel that Crown sells the best jerk chicken in the DMV. The majority of folks that wait with me to place orders at Crown are from the Caribbean, so I’ve got credible support for my claim! I purchase their jerk chicken platter for take-out approximately 4 – 5 times year and have been a customer for nearly 5 years. It never disappoints. To change things up, I also get the stew chicken, which is equally satisfying. And there are lots of other Trinidadian/Caribbean Islands’ dishes available, too. Personally, I find that most of the jerk chicken sold about our area is badly made, so this is my reliable source. Owners Jennifer and Trevor Selman are hospitable, talented pros who have been at it a long time. Crown has been operating at this spot in Petworth for years. There are small and large food platters offered at truly reasonable prices. The bakery items that I like include: guava tart, hot cross buns and a rotating selection of cake slices. Crown features frequent buyer cards, which I find to be a nice incentive. Additionally, they are unabashed patriots – they display their respect for our country. I love that. Hours: Tues., Wed., and Thurs. – 11 am to 9 pm; Friday and Saturday – 11 am to midnight; and Sunday brunch – 11 am to 4 pm. Don’t show up too late or you risk missing out! I always get mine around lunch time. And(drum roll, please) – they accept credit cards!

Since recently relocating to the East Coast from California, we have been on the hunt for great Caribbean food. We were driving on Georgia Avenue and saw the Trini flag. We pulled over and it was the best last minute decision ever made. I love this place! Went back two days in a row. The fish is absolutely delicious. I took an order of doubles to go for dinner that night. My husband had the curry goat and it was melt in your mouth delicious! Almost as good as my mom’s(we are Trini). The food is as authentic as can be. The roti was also very very very good. And I was addicted to the pone! The Sunday brunch/buffet is a great deal. Everything from macaroni pie, callaloo, stew chicken, and curry crab to saltfish and bake. And I had a real Solo… I have not seen one since I last visited Trinidad. The service is just wonderful. It is like going to a family member’s home for lunch or dinner. One of my favorite places to eat in DC and certainly the best Trini food around!

Great for a serious case of Carnival Tabanca! Great for Everyday… I stopped into this quaint homey bakery and they had what I needed to take the edge off!!! It’s called Bake and Shark!(** You can only get Bake & Shark –Friday to Sunday) I was soooo pleased with the price and the fact that they made it to order. #Yummy #Goodness. I went in for one and came out with 2 sandwiches. I’m going back to try out the rest of the menu; Especially that $ 22 All you can eat brunch.

I checked out Crown Bakery with my guy friend Super Bowl Sunday for their marvelous all you can eat brunch buffet. We tried out their fried fish, rice and peas, succulent chicken, macaroni pie(NOT macaroni and cheese but way better), callaloo, salt fish, rum punch, mango juice, and fresh fruit and cake for dessert. A GREAT meal. My friend danced with excitement like a kid while we ate. The restaurant itself has the feel of being in someone’s home. Warm, friendly people(shout out to Brian and Lauren), nothing fancy(so no need to dress up). Just a great relaxing place with authentic West Indian food of more of the Trinidadian variety. I’ll be back!

With the opening(on Easter Sunday 2012) of a second floor dining room for a Sunday buffet from 11 – 4, Crown Bakery may have emerged as the best Caribbean restaurant in the Wash DC metro area. For many years I’ve been dropping by the first floor bakery for very distinctive savoury pastries filled with salt cod, lentil, salmon, chicken, callaloo, &. .. Amongst the sweets, I love their version of cassava pone. Because I usually end up eating such items in my car on my way home, I rarely order side dishes & entrees – though I fondly remember a roasted winter roots concoction I was able to buy one Saturday. I arrived this past Sunday June 24 around 3PM, ascended one flight of stairs into a comfortable & attractive space, and was greeted warmly by an impressive, formally-dressed head waiter /maitre d’. He was happy to provide background detail on the dishes with which I had less familiarity. I enjoyed the stewed chicken with brown gravy, a poached tilapia with pumpkin and orange peppers, and a salt-cod concoction verging upon but not really a ceviche. Amongst the sides, the callaloo served over pillow mounds of rice pleased me the most, its unusual consistency having emerged in Trinidad from its historical existence as a soup. I liked a pigeon pea dish and will be curious to learn how it was made. Mac & cheese was served as a kind of very distinctive loaf. Two styles of plantain. Both vegetable and fruit salad. Plus rum punch(non-alcoholic), though I await the Sundays on which sorrel is served. The owner informed me that special entrees and sides emerge each Sunday, so it’s unlikely you’ll ever see exactly the same dishes. Seating for approximately 40. I parked right in front of the restaurant and during this time-period on Sunday, anyone should be able to park within one half block of Crown Bakery. I’ve been eating Caribbean food for at least 40 years, starting in Toronto and San Francisco, & I can’t recall a better dining experience than that which I experienced at Crown Bakery this past Sunday.

3.50 stars. In the far reaches of Georgia Avenue, a bit outside of walking distance from the metro, lies the friendly Crown Bakery, home of a $ 22 Sunday all you can eat lunch buffet featuring an assortment of Trinidad treats. You wouldn’t know there is a lunch buffet upon entering the building. Indeed, what you see is a humble bakery with a few baked good interspersed on the shelves. We were unsure enough to even ask whether they had a brunch special, and after we were assured we were in the right place, we were led upstairs to the dining section. Upstairs was a bit more formal than I was expecting. Each table was lined with white tablecloth, and the items were not self-serve but rather explained to us in some detail by a nice older gentleman in a white suit. We were treated to a number of different rice preparations, brown chicken stew, jerk chicken, macaroni and egg, channa/daal, and collaloo. Crown Bakery also features a number of different teas and juices including a divine preparation of sorrel that is only rivaled by the preparation I have found at Taqueria Juquilita in Columbia Heights. Trinidad cuisine is not my area of expertise, but I found the relatively watery yet delicious collaloo was best served over the rices. Both the jerk chicken and brown chicken stew were tasty without being overtly spicy. At no point did my lips burn, yet I could still appreciate the subtle uses of spices. The macaroni and egg combination was a great filler between different dishes. The homemade carrot cake we used to finish our meal should not be missed. Crown Bakery has been in existence for a long time, but given its location, it hasn’t received any real publicity. Perhaps that should change. After all, it’s the only all you can eat Trinidad brunch of which I’m aware in the entire city. At the very worst, it has novelty value. However, I could certainly see myself coming back for massive servings of jerk chicken downed with delicious sorrel tea. I’d recommend a visit.

This is the worst caribbean food I ever ate, what ever you do stay far away from the curry chicken, rice & peas and spinach it was a waste of my $ 10.99 w/tax. I never had curry gravy that had virually no taste of curry the meal left a terrible taste in my mouth and I’ll never buy food from them again. I can’t believe people from the caribbean patronize this place bcuz they are suppose to know what real west indian food taste like, I am a west indian American and they should hire me as a chef.

Tiny shop, BIG heart and big flavor. I was craving jerk chicken and the ladies at Cornrows and Co recommended Crown Bakery. Georgia Avenue has lots places that I will try in my future… for now, my large jerk chicken wing(only wings for the jerk) dinner cost around $ 9 and included two sides and plaintains. The sides were rice and peas(rice and beans), mac and cheese(golden castles of love), stewed lentils, stewed chick peas, stewed spinach, and so on. The plaintains were delicious dipped in the spicy juice from the spinach. The chicken meat fell off in a spicy tumble of fingers-are-made-for-licking. Yummy. This a local place with a global feel. The cakes are baked by the Trinidadian lady and they are throwing an inauguration party(cost $ 44 for prez 44) which goes until 6 a.m. and starts, «Trinidad time.» Pastries in every corner, regulars chatting from their two tiny high tables about pre-WWII German politics, friendly service, a shop the size of a king size bed filled with choices that left me feeling warm and happy. I’ll be back.
