I may have missed this place had it not been for the the booming reggae that made the block pulsate. It was around 9pm, so the music was was my only sure sign that the café was still open, since most of the surrounding businesses had already closed. There were a bunch of men hanging around outside kickin’ it, which can be a little daunting for a young woman after dark, but as I suspected they were all very nice, friendly folks that were friends of the business and lived in the neighborhood. To me, it gave it a family/neighborhood vibe. The young man helping me walked me through the menu, making suggestions based on my hunger level and likings. I love how the menu has a variety of both Guyanese and Jamaican food — similar but still very different. Since I wasn’t terribly hungry, he made the suggestion or ordering a jerk chicken wrap. I told him I didn’t really like wraps, but when I found out it was a roti wrap I changed my mind. The wrap was actually much more than a snack and was just a bit smaller than a Chipotle burrito. There were a number of light sauces that topped the chicken the provided a little additional kick, one I know for sure had a little blue cheese but that I was barely identifiable when I was eating it. The wrap and the soda brought me to just under $ 10, which is a little more than I was planning to spend for a snack, but plenty worth it considering the amount of food given to me. A patty probably would have sufficed me just fine, but taking a look at all of the other Caribbean offerings I knew I would be back in the future.

Since I moved to DC from Philadelphia a year ago I have tried food from so many unimpressive restaurants, cafes, and by now I completely given up on carry-outs. I’m a great cook so I’m hard to please with food. Lil GT Café opened near my house and I gave it a chance, I’ll try anything once. OMG, this food is really good. I have gone back 5 days in a row and there are only 2 entrée’s I haven’t tried. The oxtails are amazing, as is the curry goat, the curry chicken, the salt fish roti, and the jerk chicken. Whom ever figured out the jerk chicken recipe, «good job». It’s simple, this food is good. Out of the 5 West Indian spots I have checked out in Dc this is the best. No need to go to the other places anymore. Now I just need to find good Chinese food, aghhaa!

Tried Lil GT Café earlier today. The food was terrific! Its a local authentic West Indian restaurant started by a family from Guyana. I had the Oxtail with plantains, yams, and a side order of Roti. I heard that that Jerk Chicken is the best meal on the menu, can’t wait to give it a try when I stop by the restaurant again.
