Great place with no wait on a Friday night. Right to the food. We picked mussels for an app which were the biggest mussels I ever had. Very fresh and tasty. Home made bread was fantastic. I got swordfish special which was very good, however I thought $ 34 was overpriced for the size of fish. Wife for flank steak and fries with bernaise sauce. Very very good. Dessert was what was to write home about tho-Apple benigets with praline ice cream. OMG. That was worth the $ 100 dinner price tag. Very good.

Small, cozy place tucked inside the River Inn. There is a small bar and fireplace that makes the place warm & inviting. We sat at a small table by the window with a nice view of 25th Street. The menu isn’t extensive with prices typical for DC. We started with the spring rolls which were very tasty. Our main dishes were the scallops and tuna tartare. The scallops dish was a little light on the portions with only 4 scallops, while the portions for the tuna dish were just right for my date. The manager or owner named Keith came around to check on us and engaged us in some polite small talk. He was seeking a partner for a fishing weekend in NJ and overheard me talking to my date about swordfish. Very nice guy. Our waitress was utterly efficient and polite as well. We had a very pleasant experience. Definitely recommend.

This review is long overdue. I had an amazing experience here last month. The restaurant is tiny and tucked inside the boutique foggy bottom hotel«river inn». You have to walk into the hotel lobby to get to the restaurant. The lobby is very welcoming and there is a cozy fireplace. We had 6pm reservations and were seated promptly. The restaurant is tiny… Only about a dozen or so tables… So I recommend reservations! Our servers were wonderful… We especially loved Keith who helped us make excellent wine selections to go with our meals. My friend and I started with the mixed green salad and the duck spring rolls. The duck didn’t taste particularly fresh(possibly frozen) but the salad was crisp and tasty. Loved the candied walnuts and cranberries! For entrees my friend and I shared the roasted pork chop and the tagliatelle with Italian sausage. Both were delicious!!! The pork chop was tender, melt In your mouth, the pasta was fresh, the sauce was very flavorful. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert. I want to note that my friend was super disappointed that the price of the pre-theater menu went up… It’s $ 40… But Unilocal falsely says its $ 35. Overall awesome cozy spot for dinner! I recommend it!

This place is delicious and amazing. A great choice before a show at the Kennedy Center or just a date night. I had the scallops and they were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Perfectly cooked and a decent sized portion. I can’t wait to come back!

My my. In town for work. Booked the River Inn. Great hotel by the way. After a long drive decided to just eat at hotel which I rarely do. And… BOOM…what a great meal. Best Salmon dish I ever had. Salmon, lentils and applewood bacon. Curious combo for sure but wow was it great! And, fabulous service by Keith.

Boyfriend and I live around the corner from here, and we often think back and mention how good the food, service, and ambiance was. Service: Keith was personable and knowledgeable about the menu, and chose a great bottle of wine for us. Food: Lamb chops. I am not a fan of lamb, as I do not possess the palette for its gaminess. I had a piece and the flavor was delicate and so buttery! The dish included a side of diced sweet potatoes with, some type of salty/savory protein(total guess). It was so good! A really great dish. I will say for $ 30, the portion was quite small, so my boyfriend ended up ordering an additional entrée. Second entrée he ordered was risotto. Keith told us he’d put in an order for the asparagus and mushroom risotto over the fall harvest risotto, and it was a winner. So, so delicious. I ordered the pork chop. It was a nice size and cooked well; maybe a touch over done for being«medium.» The baked apple glaze with the pork was really nice. I didn’t care much for the green beans or the mashed sweet potato sprinkled with almond slivers that accompanied the dish. Ambiance: Varied. A small and cozy space, dim and warm. There were diners dressed to see a show and diners in jeans and a hoodie. i.e. me.

I almost hate to share this review because I would like for Dish to be relatively undiscovered for my own sake but I feel loyalty to my fellow foodies. You won’t read a lot about Dish but it deserves more accolades. It is consistent very good from start to finish. Keith and his colleagues provide as good service and a better atmosphere than many of the more highly acclaimed restaurants. It can get loud due to its small size but it has the feel of a French bistro and so, it’s okay. Don’t just think of it if you have a Kennedy Center event – try to figure out how to be in Foggy Bottom around dinner time.

Had a lovely dinner here in the past and once again this week. Was worried about the food preparation after reading recent reviews, but all turned out great. All the dishes came out seasoned just right, and we didn’t find anything was over-salted. If anything, the steak and frites were a little under seasoned. Salads were fresh and yummy, the halibut special was a great choice. Cooked perfectly, moist and flavorful. Came with a nice sweet curry sauce, rice and bok choy. This entrée was perfection. Crab cakes were really delicious as well(though i would prefer bigger size and a bit less stuffing). One of our party ordered well-done steak and frites and loved it. I thought the flat iron cut was noticeably tougher compared to others i’ve tried elsewhere. Had crème brûlée and beignets(comes with really delicious ice-cream) for dessert. Good, but the portions are much smaller then I remember. Particularly crème brûlée was filled to less then a half of very shallow ramekin. In fact, probably the skimpiest portion I’ve ever seen. That said, the flavor was there. Service was amazing and the cocktails truly impressive. The ambiance is ok, it can get a little loud. All and all, I would come back to Dish + Drinks as it provides a wonderful(albeit decidedly overpriced) experience.

I can’t say enough about this place. Fabulous service and truly amazing food. I ordered gazpacho and my hubby ordered mushroom soup. We couldn’t decide which we loved better. When it was time for entrees, he got steak frites. Steak was perfectly cooked and fries were wonderful. I got tagliatelle with sausage, tomatoes, garlic, basil, white wine. Maybe the best pasta dish I’ve had in a year. Topped off by perfect dessert. What a goldmine!

A complete surprise– excellent food & service. Everything was just perfect. It was a great place to spend a few hours. There was no rushing you out the door after the desserts were finished. Please ask for Maria to be your server. I especially enjoyed the steak cooked to perfection along with their Apple fritters.

My boyfriend and I just had an early dinner here and it was great! Drinks: neat whiskey and cold river blueberry. Stiff drinks that goes down smooth. Food: duck confit spring rolls as our appetizer(3 spring rolls filled with flavorful duck confit though a bit light on the filling. The dipping sauce was a sweet garlic chili sauce that paired well.). Boyfriend had the handmade tagliatelle pasta with mussels and shrimp(boyfriend said mussel was low on salt but overall a great dish with a light cream sauce, it was a good portion). I had the pork chop with sweet potato purée and haricot beets(seasoned pork chop with an amazing reduction. The pork chop was a bit dry but still very delicious). Service: absolute 5 stars for Keith who works there. Friendly and funny and not overbearing on customers. He knows what kind of drink you like and very willing to share his knowledge on alcohol. He was the highlight of my experience here. Overall: negligible mistakes on seasoning but great in service. It’s a cute and cozy spot that’s hidden away in Foggy Bottom and I’ll definitely be back for drinks and chatting.

Solidly gourmet quality restaurant in FB. Good service and fair prices, creative pairings of sides complement the menus main courses. Note, dining room is small and a bit simple, but fairly comfortable. Try the butternut squash soup, salmon, or the tagliatelle! Good wines and good advice on pairings.

Four stars due to parking great place to dine before curtain call at Kennedy Center Date night dinner before the theater– the service was fantastic and Keith was awesome. Had a couple glasses of wine, the gazpacho with crab and avocado, and crab cake dinner. The ingredients were fresh with interesting combinations. The atmosphere was quiet and elegant. The dessert Omgosh… brownie a la mode. The chocolate-drizzled vanilla ice cream was refreshing, accompanied by ripe, juicy strawberries. Beneath this mound is where I discovered a gooey, moist fudge brownie in Heaven didn’t want to share… The Dish is located inside The River Inn Be prepared to search for parking but worth the time. Keith knows his wines and can make outstanding cocktails.
The food and service is amazing. I come here often and I love the salmon dish as well as the NY strip dish. The bartender Keith, is very attentive and makes the best drinks in the district. This is a must visit for all in the area.

Went here for a business lunch at the customers suggestion. He had the cobb salad, no complaints from him and it looked good. My associate had a Prix Fix lunch. Calamari, Seared Ahi, and Rice Pudding. the Calamari looked terribly greasy, he was happy with his tuna and the rice pudding was adequate. I had the Butternut Squash soup(delicious) and the trout it was great. I hear the hotel that its in, is a great place to stay.

Great little spot to go before a show at the Kennedy Center! We went for the pre theater menu which is $ 35 a person for a limited selection of one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert. Great deal for the amount of food you get! This place is located in a hotel lobby and is extremely small so there is nothing special décor-wise. We found it odd that for a place called Dish+Drinks that there was only a wine list and no drink menu! We asked our helpful and friendly waiter about available drinks and beer. The food was pretty good. I had a Caesar salad(I asked for no anchovies and it came with anchovies) that was pretty tasty, the salmon which was delicious, and the chocolate cake for dessert. My bf had the mixed green salad, the steak and frites(which he said was average, but not great) and apple fritters for dessert. Both desserts were amazing, however, they tried to serve them to us before our entrée! It all worked out, and we got our desserts at the end of the meal(as is customary:) Would definitely return! Hopefully next time the kitchen is a little more organized!

With nothing to absorb the sound, and cafeteria-grade tables, this is the loudest dining room in the District. Merely a hotel lobby restaurant, with waiters regularly shuttling room service trays to the lobby elevators, this is not a destination for food and merely a travel stop that happens to be among the closest restaurants to the Kennedy Center(sadly). My request to be accommodated at one of the several empty quieter tables was denied by the wait staff«for security reasons,» to the extent you can call visiting diplomatic bureaucrats important(I don’t). Never coming back.

This small restaurant inside the River Inn was definitely a pleasant surprise. My boyfriend and I wanted to try a place we’ve never heard of and saw this place on Opentable. We almost cancelled last minute to go to a more popular hot new restaurant in town instead but I’m glad we didn’t. The décor is very simple and unassuming and the atmosphere casual but food was pretty tasty. We shared the duck confit spring rolls to start with and the staff was nice enough to split and plate it separately(we didn’t ask them to do this btw). Talk about caring about food presentation! The steaks(NY Strip and 10 oz flat iron) we had were perfectly cooked to medium rare and had a very nice char/crust! These were better than steaks I’ve had at real steakhouses. I especially love that sauce the NY strip came with but both steaks were great without any sauces though. For deserts we went with the apple beignets w/ice cream and pistachio crème brûlée. Both were pretty good and my boyfriend can’t stop telling me how much he loves that apple beignet. Haha. Everything was delicious and we definitely left with very satisfied and happy bellies. :D I have no regrets coming to this place! This place is not exactly in the most happening part of town but it’s really convenient if you’re catching a show at the Kennedy Center. I also liked that they take credit cards for valet. Also, sorry beer lovers but they don’t have great beer selections. They only had 2 beers on tap but their bar was pretty well stocked with liquor and had a decent wine list.
