Embassy of Ireland

This is a review of the embassy’s participation in the European Union Embassies’ Open House on May 9^th, 2009.
So after exiting the Luxembourg embassy you are immediately in line for the Irish embassy, even though it is well up the block. The wait was about an hour to enter. As one neared the entrance, one could observe students from the Culkin school of tradtional Irish dance giving performances. Children of all ages performed lovely dances well being clad in festive regalia — it was very charming. Upon entering you head up to the second floor and are in another line which takes about another 20 minutes. You have access to water in the line, and at the end of the line there is a food spread. This largely consisted of buttered bread, dried out cheese, and cut up wieners — nothing really worth the wait. A flat screen TV showed scenes from Ireland to those waiting in line. Upon exiting, everyone was given a very nice bag containing several booklets on tourism to Ireland. This bag would prove very useful for collecting booklets from all of the other embassies.

Stop #4 on the EU Embassy Open House extravaganza. I wasn’t that impressed with the Embassy of Ireland. The interior is Georgian so if you can appreciate that design style then you’ll love this embassy.
They did have a nice spread of cheeses and a harpist for this occasion.
