Embassy of Greece

Before this year’s EU Embassy Open House gets underway later this morning, I wanted to let fellow Unilocalers know that you should definitely skip Greece! I visited the Embassy of Greece during the EU Open House last year and we waited more than 3 hours in line to get in! While I understand there will be long lines because this is a popular event, the biggest problem is Greece didn’t move people along once inside the embassy so that meant the line was just at a standstill. They apologized a few sporadic times and kept assuring us there was plenty of food left when we inquired. However, once we got inside after that huge wait, all we did was wait some more to file down a narrow staircase into the embassy’s basement. There were a few pathetic looking tables and all we ended up getting after the huge wait was a mini cup of rice pudding that you had to try to squish out of the cup because they didn’t provide us with any utensils to eat it with. And that food the staff kept assuring us would be available was long gone! Had they been up front that it was gone, we would have gotten out of line. Overall, Greece was just a huge failure and a waste of time so don’t bother standing in the line when there are much better embassies to visit!

Ah, yes… Greece…Officially called the «Hellenic Republic»…Birthplace of Socrates, Aristotle, Alexander the Great, 50% of Jennifer Aniston, The Olympics, Democracy, Western Civilization, The Iliad, Popular Mythology, Philosophy, Ouzo and the deliciousness of Gyros, Feta Cheese, and sweet Baklava.
I am almost 32 years old and dreamed of but still have not yet visited Europe because of the damn expensive Euro. But now that Greece is in the biggest Economic financial shit storm they’ve ever faced, they’ve dragged down the rest of Europe and the price of the Euro has dropped significantly:
Today’s Price: $ 1.26US per $ 1.00 Euro
Two Years ago: $ 1.56US per $ 1.00 Euro
So basically, Europe is on sale for almost 20% off… sweet!
Oh Greece, don’t feel sad, you are not alone: Spain, Italy, Portugal and Ireland are in the financial shitboat you are in. That boat is so overloaded with shit that its sinking.

This is your grandmother’s embassy. It’s dowdy and un-​interesting, with a lot of old floral-​patterned curtains and dimly lit rooms. Don’t go here unless they’re hosting something cool with free wine (though the Greek wine Roditis isn’t that exciting either).
