Great atmosphere and great music. The drinks were good; I didn’t order food, but the plates others ordered looked very professional and delicious. This place will definitely became a new regular spot.

Perfect for date night! Visited Saturday night around 11pm, the main floor gets pretty crowded/small unless you get there early and claim a table or a seat at the bar. Nice atmosphere, and the second floor has a(smallish) TV where you can watch the band if you don’t feel like standing downstairs in the crowd. There’s nice tables and booths upstairs with more room to socialize and with less noise. Re: Food Only had appetizers(Sweet bourbon wings and fries) which were decent, can’t comment on the rest of the menu. Will definitely go back and try to get a table before the band goes on. No cover for live music is a great steal!

Loved loved loved JoJos!!! The atmosphere, food and service is all worthy of five stars. There is live music every night which makes the atmosphere so great. It’s a little tight in the place but with the music you barely notice. It’s a great spot for couples, first dates, etc. The drinks were great! I got the margarita which was huge and tasted too good, and my boyfriend got the old fashioned which was pretty good too! We started with the muscles and the wings because the wings are a must. from what I heard. I hate wings but they were amazing. My boyfriend got the angus steak and I got the lamb chops, both which we would recommend. We’ll definitely be returning!

I can’t speak for the food but the live music(soul, funk) was excellent. The band members invited people up to dance with them and the leader came up to me afterwards, asking if I enjoyed it, since I was one of the few in the audience who was not as visibly entralled. YES, I’m just shy! I just kept thinking about my mother — I have to take her here next time she visits. In fact, I’m going to plan a whole trip for Mother’s Day centered on having her experience this venue. Yesss!

Loved the bourbon salmon, roasted veggies and mashed potatoes. My husband said his bourbon chicken and shrimp was really really good. The crème brûlée was not my fave but everything else made up for it. The live band was outstanding! I totally recommend this spot.

Ladies night! Came here on a Friday night with the girls around 830. We didn’t make a reservation and was seated immediately. We opted for upstairs seating because it was more comfortable for our group. I would prefer a table downstairs if I had gone there on a date. The dim lighting, candles, and the live band definitely created a romantic ambience. We all opted for the blackened salmon and shrimp, but I altered mine a bit. I asked for the garlic spinach instead of the broccoli and kept the herb roasted potatoes. I also asked for a mushroom sauce because I saw another Unilocalers picture and the waitress told me it was a dish that was no longer on the menu. So we tried recreating it and it was amazing! I will most definitely be back.

Dinner! Me and the boo came here for date night on a Tuesday. Made reservations for 8pm and we waited about 20mins for a table. He hasn’t been in awhile but he enjoyed everything from the food, drinks and the band of course. Huge music fans! One of my favorite gems in the city!

Visited Apr 2015. Great 1st date/date night spot… though a bit cramped/tight, but what do you expect, it’s U Street! I had the lamb and it was excellent! The live entertainment was nice — Band was good — We enjoyed them. And they were very personable after their set as we encountered them outside when we were leaving. The one and only complaint I can remember is some woman(who may have been a regular?) was trying to bully us out of our seats at the bar — and we had been there a while(EATING&DRINKING) and I don’t feel like staff/management did anything to aid in the situation which caused a bit of a hostile environment and lead to us leaving probably earlier than we intended. Was the bullying successful — NO, I stood my ground, but I no longer wanted to be there at that point. Don’t remember the price point, it was date — I wasn’t paying. Yes, I would still recommend this spot.

Went here on Friday night for happy hour and had a great time! They had a number of mixed drinks, beers and wines on special. They also had some tasty apps… I tried the quesadilla and sweet bourbon chicken wings. Both were rather tasty. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. She made sure we were taken care of and did it with a smile. I definitely appreciate good service! The main highlight of the experience was the live music. There was a small jazz band playing some relaxing tunes. The atmosphere was just what I needed after a long week at the job. Overall I had a wonderful time! I will definitely return and I recommend this spot for anyone looking for a great happy hour and live music. 5 stars Jojo’s!

This spot is cool and a little further up on the strip on U street. The atmosphere is classy and warm. It’s a little tight so moving around isn’t convenient. The food I got was decent I love the bourbon sauce and mashed potatoes, brocollini was gross and slimy. I’ll be back though the mash was good and so were the drinks. Service was sub par. This place is pricey for the quality of food in my opinion.

How to go from five stars to one. When the Unilocal promotion is 50% off and the bill is 40% off and the server Jordan argues with you. This used to be my favorite spot, not any more. No Es Bueno

We went to JoJo’s on a Sunday evening to celebrate my mother’s 85th birthday. We selected this club because there was no cover charge and the food and drinks had received good reviews from my Unilocal friends. We arrived at 7pm for our reservation and were promptly seated downstairs. The restaurant is tightly seated as is the case with most jazz clubs. Décor is clean and nicely appointed. There was a nice mix of people enjoying the food as the band had not started. We ordered a round of drinks that came properly mixed, as well as an appetizer of the bourbon glazed wings. The wings were absolutely delicious. They are fried crisp and then glazed. I am not usually a fan of this approach but in this case it worked. In fact they were so good we ordered a second round. Everyone ordered entrees including the drunken steak, chicken breast, and salmon. All these dishes were quite tasty. I especially enjoyed the steak. The marinade made the steak very tender and the temp was perfect. The band had begun to play and we truly enjoyed the combo. It was not too loud, a nice volume level. The band even sang happy birthday to my mom! The Maitre’d had arranged this without asking. We all had a wonderful evening and my mom’s birthday was a special event. I will most certainly return next time I visit DC. I highly recommend JoJo’s for a nice evening of jazz, food and drink. Definitely make a reservation and sit downstairs. Plan ahead as parking is on street and tight.

My mom told me to always keep expectations low and that way you’ll never be disappointed. She must have been to Jojos. This place is a trip. First off it’s very small so when you walk in you go right by the stage — which is awkward. It’s even more awkward when you try to leave and the band heckles you. The music is good, but I wouldn’t consider it a jazz bar, it’s more like a bar that lets small time bands play live jazz music. The band passed a bucket through the crowd like an NYC street show. The mixed drinks are bad, service is below average. It’s hard to get a table(even if you have a reservation) because they are full with people camping out and drinking ice water. But I have to admit, I kinda like this place. I would recommend going once just for the experience.

What a nice vibe & live JAM session! Came for desserts & cocktails for my Sis birthday. Gets crowded quickly & seating is limited. However the the floor Manger moves the patrons & staff in perfect sync. The upstairs has the white linen table cloths and a full service bar. There’s a TV screen that shows the live music playing downstairs. Be ready to move as soon as you pay your tab as the Manager will discreetly & kindly let you know you can move downstairs as the tables are needed for the next dining guests. Came downstairs, standing room only yet lucked up with a chair in front of the band & lead singer… Oh Boy. Johnny the Artist & his band… grooved the roof off! Every song was a hit, from the singing to the solos, a groovy music performance. They took two breaks for about 30 minutes & played three hour long sets. A great place for real live music! Johnny is a one of a kind performer, can sing his ass off & his stage performance is hands down awesome. Definitely will be back!

This place used to my go to happy hour spot last summer. Im one of those I need food and drink specials for happy hour kind of girl. They have both. The wings, jojo burger, chicken sandwich and mussels all great. And the bartender(a guy) used to serve up some pretty strong big bowl margaritas. Love that they have a live band some nights I recently went last week, same good food and music but the drinks? Not so great. I plan to visit again soon hopefully that was just a bad night for the lady bartender.

We were looking for some dinner with live music on a Sunday night… but we didn’t want to pay $ 20−30+ each on cover charge… so I did some research: Blues Alley… COVERCHARGE Twins Jazz… COVERCHARGE Bohemiam Caverns… COVERCHARGE Bossa…COVERCHARGE Jojo…FREE!!! :) It wasn’t the best band in the world… but they were good… and it was FREE! Drink prices were standard for DC, wife’s $ 9 Guazetto seafood soup is large and amazing, and my $ 20 Cajun Seafood Pasta was delicious and well portioned. Staff was friendly in the cozy but classy basement area.

I just added a picture of the rude and unprofessional Unilocal response I got from the restaurant after my review. The staff person who responded told me to get some«common sense» because we’d been at the restaurant for a few hours. It was a friend’s birthday and we were buying food and drinks the entire time! As I said before, we’d just bought a round of shots less than 10 minutes before we were told we’d been there too long. Who tells their customers to get some common sense? I’ll be sharing this Unilocal review on all social media outlets. Most businesses would attempt to remedy the situation… not insult their customers further.

An intimate yet lively basement-level joint on the bustling U St, oozes charm from the time you’re greeted at the door. Eating alone(work trip), I chose to sit at the bar and was well looked after as the locals dined around me providing a lovely din, letting me know I was in the middle of everything. Just how I like it! I’d read about the lobster ravioli, and at $ 21 for an appetizer serving(5 medium pieces) it isn’t cheap, but it was absolutely worth every penny. The combination of half squid ink pasta really elevated the dish and the generous lobster stuffing was sweet and light. The butter sauce was tasty but not overpowering. The blackened chicken special with a mango salsa and bourbon mash was great but the standout was the live band. Nothing like jazz fusion to go with your dinner.
