This food truck is amazing! I always get the regular(marinara) meatballs with mac & cheese and some sort of veggie. She(don’t know the ladies name) consistently delivers. I highly recommend this truck.

Really excellent food truck food. While the meatballs were very good, the attention(and size) of the sides makes this truck a standout. I had heirloom tomatoes with sea salt — totmatoes were fresh and delicious and kale with ricotta — tang of vinegar on kale with fresh ricotta mellowing it out — going to make it at home.

Went to the Ball or Northing food truck today and can’t stop thinking about that delicious food. The fig and blue cheese chicken ball was the best! And the roasted sweet potatoes were deelish! I can’t wait for them to come back to my area!

Get the fig and blue cheese chicken balls and thank me later. Way too much food for lunch and I mean that as a compliment. Sides are on point. I’m so full.

This is my favorite truck. The veggie balls are delicious and everything is so fresh.

The concept may have started as «meatball truck», but here it’s all about the sides. I got a veggie ball platter with ricotta polenta and a goat-cheese-and-greens salad; I wasn’t aiming for double-cheese, but there’s a lot on the menu. The temperature was in the mid 90s, but the hot food still felt good; not every hot dish can manage that. The salad was a bit heavily dressed, but the polenta and veggie balls were spot on. Next time I’ll try the kale. Not an everyday meal for me, but certainly a solid option.

A very good truck, the meatballs are the lesser part. It’s definitely worth trying this truck. Just make sure you have your expectations correct. For a meatball truck, the meatballs(or vegeballs) are worse, and less special, than the excellent sides. The sides are diverse, and generally excellent. The balls are a bit soggy and not really good enough to stand on their own. I suppose that’s why meatballs are usually covered up by pasta(and pasta sauce). They’re still good(I recommend the bbq chicken when available). The sides are the reason to come here; there’s something for everyone. I don’t think you’d attract many customers with a «Sides or Nothing» truck

I was excited to try Ball or Nothing for lunch, but was underwhelmed. I ordered the classic meatballs, which came with 2 sides(mascarpone polenta and mac & cheese) for $ 11. For the price, it was a decent portion. The meatballs/sauce were ok with a nice spice to them, but they were cold when I got back to my office(a 2 minute walk, and it’s not very cold out). The pasta tasted like it was premade in a large batch and refrigerated, and then doused with cheese sauce. Unfortunately that was also cold. The polenta was the high point of this meal, but the meatballs and sauce were served on top it, which masked its great flavor. The few bites of untainted polenta that I could dig out were delicious. Bottom line, I wouldn’t go back. If the meatballs were served hotter that would really help. Two stars for the polenta and the potential to be better with hotter food.

My favorite food truck! I’m not really a meatball person and honestly, that’s not what sparked my interest in trying the food here. Yes the meatballs are really good, but the sides are AMAZING!!! I’ve only had the pleasure of trying their winter food so far so I’m excited to see what they have for spring/summer/fall. You can tell the food is made with love and made that day. They just have a way of making something like green beans or brusell sprouts the best thing you have ever eaten. It takes a lot to wow me, but the food here wows me every time. I’m a pretty lazy person and I will walk almost ½ mile each way to get some grub when they come to Farragut(p.s. it’s the coldest winter ever and I still make the trip). The other great thing is that there’s barely wait. I usually wait 5 mins or less and they are so nice and friendly. And $ 11 for 3 giant meatballs and 2 sides in DC is a great deal when the food is this great. I’ve had food from several other food trucks and the food here is my favorite. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

(3.5 stars) I wasn’t too crazy about this truck, although I will applaud the creativity of their options. I ordered the classic meatballs with mac & cheese(of course) and marscapone polenta. I don’t know if I would order it again for $ 11 but it was pretty good and a relatively large helping of food. The meatballs were quite good when covered in their heavy sauce; but on their own, they were only average with no notable distinctions. The mac & cheese had a different spin on it(light cream sauce with thick noodles) which I enjoyed but it was also lukewarm which limited my opinion of it. And the polenta was a bit too sweet for my taste, causing it not to mix well with the meatballs. There were a number of other side options, including carmelized green beans with toasted almonds, that sounded really tasty and may have been better choices.

Great food truck. I got the platter which included the veggie, classic, and BBQ turkey meatballs, along with two sides which and I picked the roasted cauliflower and the peach and goat cheese salad. Everything was delicious! It was the perfect amount of food. One thing to note, my boyfriend got the kale and it was not great, slimy and overcooked. Other than that, I will be back!

Amazingly delicious, fresh food. I came to the truck around 2pm when the truck was closing, but the kind lady and chef welcomed me and took my order. I was so ready to have the bbq turkey after reading all these Unilocal reviews, but the vegetarian balls were the only ones left. In addition i got the local corn and goat cheese salad. These corn and goat cheese salad are out to the world? Yes, you might call me crazy, and proclaim, oh its just corn, goat cheese, almonds and leaves. No. Its. Not. It is the best goddamn salad and corn Ive had in DC. It is so simple yet extremely fresh, the juiciness of the corn, the crunch of the large salted almonds contrasting smoothness of the fresh goat cheese, and topping it off with local greens. Gosh. On the other hand, I was not a big fan of the vegetarian ball, not because it’s not good, but Im just not a fan of veggies mushed up in a ball and I didn’t really have a choice(my fault ill admit, i came late). Regardless of my personal taste, it was still very tender, juicy, flavorful and crumbles to the touch. Nevertheless, this was an amazing meal, the people working here are so nice, can’t wait to try the turkey ball next time!!!

I had the bbq turkey meatballs with squash and eggplant. Meatballs were spicy, so do not reveal the healthier turkey ;) Sides we also delish and a good change from reg food truck fries, bread or chips.

4.5 stars. Hands down, one of the better trucks out there. Also a little more pricey than some of the trucks out there(3 meatballs & two sides go for $ 11), but I think it’s worth it. It’s been ages since I’d had Ball or Nothing and previously I remember eating their chili and liking it a lot. That was at least 6 months ago, probably more — so when they showed up at State Department this past Thursday(and after this visit, for the next month I see myself eating there every Thursday) I was excited and noticed they had a revamped menu since I’d last visited. To get a taste of a number of menu items, I ordered the BBQ chicken meatballs, macaroni and cheese, and mascarpone cheese polenta(carb overload!) and my coworker ordered the classic meatballs with collard greens and roasted cauliflower. The portions were extremely generous. I was able to eat two of my meatballs, some of my polenta, and some of my macaroni and cheese — this could have easily been two lunches and I’ll remember that for next time. My coworker reported feeling satisfied and not stuffed and managed to eat his entire lunch. You can tell that this stuff is made with very fresh ingredients. My meatballs were perfectly cooked and sat on a velvety base of polenta, which went really well with the BBQ sauce. I didn’t taste an overwhelming flavor of mascarpone, which was just fine with me, I prefer a more mild polenta, and again, the meatball sauce went very nicely. My macaroni and cheese was a surprise — fusilli pasta with a nice, mild cheese sauce and a sprinkling of parmesean. Both sides were prepared beautifully. My coworker reported that his meatballs were also perfectly cooked and accompanied by a «delightful» marinara sauce. He loved the flavor of the collard greens but had two minor complaints — 1) the greens weren’t very well cut-up and it was a bit difficult to eat with a plastic fork and knife and 2) they were tough. He also noted that they were a bit spicy, so the spice-adverse should be aware of that. As for the cauliflower — cooked perfectly, although he said that the flavor of the(sesame?) oil shined through more than the flavor of the cauliflower itself. The price and the few nitpicks are the only reason they aren’t getting 5 stars from me — but who knows, after a few more visits, I might change my mind!

Awesome food and a good value. This is probably the best food from a food truck I’ve had in DC. A standard platter includes your choice of 3 meatballs and 2 sides. I had two classic meatballs and one BBQ chicken meatball. All were delicious, well-seasoned and tender. I had Mac & Cheese and Polenta as my sides. The polenta was creamy and mixed well with the BBQ and marinara sauces from the meatballs. The mac & cheese was awesome. Everything a good mac & cheese should be, although a couple of the noodles were al-dente to the point of being under cooked(still tough). And everything was hot & fresh when I opened it up at my desk. They also have Squirt, possibly one of the greatest sodas on the planet. For 11 bucks I was extremely satisfied. Hoping they return to Capitol Hill more often in the future!

Meatballs! Came here during Truckeroo last week based on a recommendation from a friend. And she couldn’t have been more right when she said this food truck was awesome. I had one traditional meatball, and one buffalo chicken meatball. Along with that, I had 2 sides– mac n cheese, and kale. For $ 8, this was a steal compared to other food trucks. The little paper tray they served my food in was loaded, and it was delicious. The meatballs had good flavor, and the generous portions of the sides were good as well. Food came real quick, and served with a smile. I will totally be back the next time I see this food truck roaming DC– top 5 food truck for sure.

The $ 8 meal comes with 2 balls(meat, veggie, or chicken) and 2 sides. I went with Mac ‘n’ cheese and apple walnut salad. They ran out of kale and cauliflower. If you’re expecting a meatball sandwich, don’t. But, it didn’t really matter because everything was delicious! The balls were mildly spicy and flavorful. The salad was refreshing and the Mac and cheese was cooked perfectly. More food than you’d usually get at a food truck for $ 8. Go get yourself some balls!

These guys must have named their truck specifically to goad me into writing a review for their balls. Mission. Accomplished. (and not in the W sense of mission accomplishment). I am officially now a ball eater. I like to eat big, spicy balls… especially when they are drenched in sauce. Perhaps I should not write a review after only consuming one item from this truck, but let me tell you this, dear reader — the balls from from this truck will convert you into a ball eater, too. I just sampled the jambalaya balls with rougail sauce, accompanied by some mascarpone polenta and creamy mac & cheese. The jambalaya balls were a mix of pork, andouille sausage, and rice slathered in a spicy, tomato based sauce that is of Franco-African-Indian origins. [ see, you learned something. Now when you see rougail sauce come up on Jeopardy — you might be able to when yourself $ 400! ] The polenta nicely complimented the spicy sauce, but the creamy mac & cheese was nothing more than pasta with some alfredo-like sauce. Why not just call it pasta? Anyhoo, that’s the only reason why I didn’t give this truck a full 5 stars. Mac & cheese =/= creamy pasta. Don’t False Advertise me, bro!!! I only hope that the DC council doesn’t destroy the whole food truck boon the District has experienced over the past couple of years, because I can’t wait to eat some more balls! This truck is veracity on wheels. It truly is — Ball or Nothing.

It was good. However, if you are selling a 10 inch meatball sub, from a truck, your sandwich better be close to being perfected if you want to charge more than anywhere else, including A Litteri and We The Pizza — both quality ball shops. So, for $ 10, I don’t think it met the bar. Pros: Flavorful sauce. Flavorful balls. The cheese choice was the highlight. Not sure what it was, but it was really good! Cons: I opened the sandwich immediately and it was a mess… they must squeeze it together. Three napkins necessary… four. optional. Bread — must get a softer roll ASAP. Price. Despite the balls being flavorful, they were a little dry. At $ 8, resolved bread situation, and a more neatly made sandwich, they could easily move to four or dare I say five stars. My friend ordered the platter. It was much easier to eat and the sides were really good. I think this is also better value, healthier, and less messy.

Color me impressed. I am not usually a huge fan of meatballs or meatloaf as they tend to be(in my experience) rather bland and often dry from most places. Ball or Nothing’s «Balls» are neither of those things. I opted for the platter today which comes with a generous portion of 3 large meatballs, choice of sauce, and 2 sides. I was torn between the Marscapone Polenta and the Mac & Cheese, but once I saw the Mac I had to try some. My second side was the Succotash, which being a southerner comes with high expectations on my part. I was not disappointed by any of my selections. The meatballs were moist and flavorful, though they could have been just a BIT firmer for my tastes. I was originally going to try the«Ghost» Tomato sauce but when I saw the Rougail Creole Sauce I had to give it a shot. The vendor was very friendly and knowledgeable about his menu and gave me a great run-down on the origin of the Rougail sauce from the Indies, tomato based and loaded with ginger and a nice dose of hot peppers — often served with seafood this sauce made a very nice, and unusual addition to the tender meatballs. The succotash was wonderful and very much done in a traditional southern«stewed» style. Loaded with onions, baby lima beans, corn, and(an unusual addition) green beans. Paired with the very rich Mac & Cheese and slightly spicy meatballs and sauce I feel myself gradually slipping into a mid-afternoon food coma after my substantial lunch. The Mac & Cheese bears it’s own mention. Obviously home-made, it is done with a wonderful large spiral fusilli pasta which serves to provide greater surface area for the rich mornay sauce(the fancy french term for«cheese sauce») to cling to. Garnished with a nice dusting of what tasted to be fresh Parmesan it is an artery clogging but delicious side. My overall dish was complemented nicely by a «Jamacian Grape» soda, which was not cloyingly sweet like a Nehi. Also offered are lemon and orange San Pelligrino and the usual soda options. The unusual additions to the drink line-up are a nice change of pace from the usual coke, sprite, and water that most trucks serve. Though our food was served quickly(luckily there was no substantial line), I will second the comment that the owner needs to get a second person to dish up food while he is taking orders. If this place gets popular(which I am guessing that it will) they will likely struggle to serve quickly with only one person handling orders and food. Keep up the great work Ball or Nothing… you surprised and converted me with your fantastic meatballs.
