Pi was closed last night, 7 pm on a Thursday. Their outgoing phone message gave no clue. If you plan to go and you don’t live in Adams Morgan, call first and if you get a machine, don’t go.

Came here and was vexed by how this place is not otherwise known in the neighborhood. The menu is rather large, but you can get an oven fired pizza here when you’re sick of the service at Mellow Mushroom. There tends to be a habit of putting too much mozzarella on your pizza(is there really such a thing?!) — but as much as it pains me to say it, the water will make the center of the pizza a big soggy/limp if the chef does that. Otherwise, the rest of the pizza is a solid choice and will not leave you disappointed.

I have no idea how I have lived in Adams Morgan for over a year without coming to Pi Pizza. After having it on my list for… basically that whole time, I FINALLY came in for a late dinner Friday night. My personal experience was maybe closer to 3 stars, but I am definitely bumping this up to 4 stars because the happy hour deal is absurd. It’s half price pizza and half price drafts. Since the pizzas are already a great deal, $ 10-$ 13 each for a GIANT pizza for 1, this is just outstanding. If you are my friend and currently reading this, I will probably want to go here soon. There are about 15 pizzas on the menu, plus you can make your own or edit an existing one. The sizes are kinda awkward. I am a pretty good eater, if I do say so myself… and would be pretty uncomfortable if I ate a whole pie(6 slices). However, if I split one, I may be still a bit hungry. We remedied this by also getting an appetizer, the risotto balls, then split one pie, half pepperoni half veggies(they actually brought us a pie that was ALL veggie, and half pepperoni, then remedied it for free, so that was nice!) The pizza isn’t anything special, but it is really good by DC standards — good toppings, wood fired, fresh, etc. The space is a small one, but it seems like it doesn’t get too crowded, so the atmosphere is nice. Looking forward to coming to happy hour(which goes til 8!)

Pi Pizzeria confused me. I got takeout from there after one to many drinks at a happy hour nearby on a Saturday(so I was feeling pretty good and very open to pizza). When I walked in at 6pm the place was empty. Primetime on a Saturday and the place was empty! So I was a little skeptical at first but being drunk and hungry I ordered and went back to the bar. 15 minutes later I came back for what was a very decent pizza. The best? No, but pretty good. The crust was not bad, the mozzarella tasted fresh and the sauce was good. I also got an arugula salad, just to try get some nutrients in after a few beers and pizza, and that was good too! So why was it empty? I don’t really know. For all I know, it’s a front for an underground gambling ring. But hey, the next time I’m in Adams Morgan feeling a little buzzed, I’m going to go get a pizza there. I recommend the same for you.

The pizza is actually pretty good, if you like the more traditional napolitan style, but the place is always empty. I’d give it 4 stars, but minus one for ambiance, I guess.

Based strictly on pizza, not great. It’s one of many quaint and lovely locations in Adams Morgan, but the pizzas(red and white) were small, soggy, and lacking in flavor. It also seems perpetually empty, which is not a good sign. Given the abundance of options for food in AdMo and pizza in DC, I’m not rushing to try it again.

3.5 stars Neopolitan style pizza that’ll satisfy a craving, but nothing to make a special trip for. Like Reggie G, I was weirded out by the décor and layout, as well as by how empty it was at 8pm. They also have a small wine selection(10 wines). As for the pizza, it’s pretty good and I polished off mine pretty quickly with that thin Neopolitan crust. Got the Pulcinella(Smoked mozzarella, fontina, prosciutto, mushrooms). Note that tomato sauce is not standard and you will have to add it as an additional topping if you want it. I personally like the taste of white pizza, so I’m fine without it. HAPPYHOUR People tend to be more forgiving when a place has a good happy hour. 5−8pm M-F, with half priced draft beers and a margherita pizza special($ 7).

I went to a similar named place in San Francisco, so decided to give this place a try after reading some decent reviews. And it is a fairly decent pizza place, but as you can see from my large number of other Pizza reviews, it is hard to earn 4 or 5 stars unless you are very unique or super tasty. This place isn’t bad, but I was hoping for more when I saw the sign on the front that said«coal fired pizza» which had me hopeful of the NYC variety, but it wasn’t on par with those Grimaldis or Lombardis staples in NY. The crust was a little too thick and had no real flavor(maybe it was the water?), but the rest of the pizza(sauce and toppings were good). And the service was great on a slow Monday night. The bartender(Suzy) was super friendly and efficient. Oh and Happy hour till 8pm is great deal for ½ price drafts and happy hour pizza prices.

I went to Pi last night with my dad, what a great little place! I’ve lived in AdMo for almost three years but I’d never been to Pi before. They have a nice fireplace, big mirrors and the seating is comfortable. There was only one waitress(cute and friendly) but she was very attentive and made sure our beer glasses stayed full :-) The pizza was tasty and similar to Red Rocks Pizza but I will have to say Red Rocks crust is slightly better. You can’t beat ½ price beers until 8pm! This place was a great spot and I plan to return with friends.

Fantastic Happy Hour and one of the the best pizza places in DC. Easily the best Happy Hour in DC. There’s a margherita special deal(7 $) and ½ priced beer. There is no wine special for Happy hour, but it’s 5 – 8 every day. I highly recommend this if your looking for good pizza in the Adams Morgan area.

My entire family was visiting, and I took them there, per their request to have an early, cheap dinner before our NYE party. There was 1 waitress there at 5pm — we were the only table. She didn’t write anything down, and everything took forever! She mixed up our drink orders, got a pizza order wrong — we ended up getting it for free, and was hardly around for refills that she ended up forgetting anyway. My brother in law actually had to walk up to the bar to get her attention, because she was back there talking to her boyfriend instead of bringing us the drinks that we ordered. I will say that the pizza and salad that my husband and I ordered was very tasty. I mean, I’d go back if I HAD to.

I didn’t know what to expect coming into this place and it was surprisingly great. I got a white pizza with sausage and my friend got a margherita pizza, and they were both outstanding. The atmosphere was nice, the bartender/waitress was great, and the food was delicious.

This has become my second home. Whenever I smell fresh basil, I crave a Pi Pizzeria margherita pizza. Hector is the best pizza maker in all of D.C. and posisbly — the world. This is gourmet, coal fired pizza folks. If you want the greasy, sloppy stuff, go to any of the neighboring Jumbo Slices for melty cardboard. Pi Pizzeria uses fresh, organic ingredients — this is evident when you taste the pizza. The thin tomato sauce is light yet full of flavor. The fresh mozzerella combines so perfectly with the basil. This pizza is on happy hour special for ~7 bucks until 8pm. I’ve also tried the four cheese pizza and it’s probably my favorite. You must order it *with sauce* it comes automatically without. The cheeses on this pizza will make your eyeballs pop out(including gorgonzola and smoked mozz). The service is always outstanding! I’ve actually become friends with at least four of the ladies that work(ed) here. They know how to mix a drink and keep you there! Inside there is a fireplace that makes for cozy atmosphere. However, the patio is great year-round. I often gather my friends there for good music, great drinks, and the *best* pizza in D.C.

Little loud in the patio out back. Not sure if it’s the AC or the vent for the stove. Still it has solid food and pretty good service. Just not a place I would go out of my way to have food.

Wandered in on a Wednesday night looking for something more sophisticated than a slice of pepperoni. I ordered the A’Picciarella(sliced tomatoes, mozarella, pineapple, and ham) for take-out and it was perfect. I’m a big fan of well-done sauce-less pizza and between the fresh tomatoes and plenty of cheese it just worked. While I’m not one to usually give a place 5 stars, I can honestly say that I will be a regular at Pi Pizzeria. I met some cool people at the bar while I waited so I ended up eating there and enjoying a half-priced beer. Happy hour is 6 – 8 on weeknights which is killer for someone in DC from Boston. The pizza was great but the overall experience bumped it up to 5 stars. Definitely worth checking out. Note — Probably best with a smaller group and wouldn’t go if you’re in a rush. This is definitely a place to chill out. They have a small staff so you won’t get constant attention but you’ll be treated well.

Boy, we had lousy service here. It took the waitress a very long time to take our drink order, even though it wasn’t busy at all. We tried to order some mixed drinks, but were told that the bartender wasn’t there yet(it was 8pm on a Thursday). But the salads and pizzas were very good. So…3 stars.

I checked out this place knowing nothing about it, but needing a pizzeria convenient to both me and a friend I was meeting. It seemed like the only alternative in Adams-Morgan to the many lame big slice places. So I started out aiming low, but was pleasantly surprised. The starting salad was fresh and delicious, and my friend also liked the caesar. The pizza was in the same style as Red Rocks — just as good, in fact, but with one important difference. While Red Rocks is consistently crowded, this place was, inexplicably, completely empty. In fact, we were the only customers there for ¾ of the meal and we had the full attention of a friendly, attentive waitress. I’ll be back.

First I want to say that the name of this place is very deceptive. There’s a different(and I believe unrelated) restaurant called District of Pi(near Chinatown), that has a truck as well. This place in Adam’s Morgan is not that restaurant. I don’t know which restaurant came first either. But I can say that there was no deep dish on this menu, so any reviews referencing«deep dish» pizza are not for this«Pi» restaurant. That being said, you can count on this to be a review of the right«Pi» restaurant. And I gotta say, the pizza was just ok. I wasn’t impressed. My main complaint is that several of the pizzas we ordered did not come with tomato sauce. Just cheese and the toppings. Now I’d expect the white pizza to come sans tomato sauce, but both the one with prosciutto, arugula and cherry tomatoes and the one with broccoli and sausage were also missing the tomato sauce. While I despise raw tomatoes with a fiery passion, I love a good tomato sauce, and thus was disappointed. At the very least they could have provided us sides of sauce for dipping. My last issue with the the pizza here is it was too doughy. I like pizzas like that to be nice and thin. On the positive side, I also tried their risotto balls appetizer, which did come with a side of sauce, and was pretty good. And the white pizza wasn’t bad. It had an interesting mix of cheeses. One other good thing about this place is the pizzas are a decent size and are not too terribly expensive. 7 people ate 4 pizzas, 2 salads, and the risotto balls for under $ 15/person including tax and tip. I don’t think I’d go back here of my own accord. But if a friend wanted to go, I’d try to find a pizza that actually came with tomato sauce. I heard this place also has good happy hour deals, but unfortunately for us we were there on a weekend, so we didn’t get to take advantage of those.

Drunkenly had food here, so I can’t comment really, but I liked what I had. I really like this place because at least when I have gone it has not been too crowded. It has a neat setting in the basement with a pool table and our bartender was friendly and super efficient. I’ve gone on a Thursday and a Friday, both times with rather large groups of people and they were able to accomodate us nicely in the basement. Put on the IU game for us, played whatever music we wanted(as long as it was amenable to the rest of the crowd) and there was room to dance or play pool or sit and talk. All around becoming my go-to!

Good meal overall. Restaurant near empty; nonetheless, service was fast/friendly. Great bottle of prosecco for $ 26, and the Pucinella pizza(fontina cheese with prociutto) was some of the best I have had in DC. I’ll confess that I wandered in b/c I thought they were the same Pi pizza as the awesome cornmeal crusted PiTruck pizza in downtown DC. Although they were not this place was still the bomb diggity. About $ 50 for one pizza(will feed 2 not-too-hungry ppl), bottle of wine and tip. Not cheap, but not that bad for the area. Would return.
