I work near Federal Center Southwest, which means the food truck selection is pretty limited, which means I’ve tried them all. This is THE only food truck I’ve been enthusiastic about. Their beef fajitas are AMAZING. The portions are HUGE, and their beef is perfectly grilled– medium rare. They also have grilled jalapenos on the side if you want a real kick. Highly recommend!

This place was alright. Nothing bad about it but not particularly great either. The cheese sauce in the enchiladas was just okay and the verde sauce wasn’t particularly spicy either. Service was quick and pleasant.

Terrible. The tiniest portions I have ever seen from a Mexican food joint for $ 9. @ tiny enchiladas with no cheese, even though I asked for cheese. A half a teaspoon of rice, and they gave me pico even though I also requested they didnt. My lunch weighed all of 9 oz. including the container.

Arriba!!! Finally I have found a Mexican food truck that doesn’t give too much rice or skimp on the good stuff like guac and pico! The ingredients were delicious, fresh and were very authentic! Definitely try this truck you will not be disappointed.

The truck was cool, and the people running it were super nice! The food was okay… it just didn’t really stand out in any way. The guacamole was also a little old-tasting and overall everything was a little bland. Unfortunately, nothing special and no great(much needed) addition to the DC mexican food scene.

The WORST enchiladas(apparently authentic too) I’ve ever had came from this truck and for $ 9. I could’ve gotten better enchiladas at Austin Grill! I got the veggie and asked for cheese as the second choice. First it took forever to get my order. Then when i finally sat down to eat– it was just gross. The board said it was supposed to come with Guac, no Guac! Then I tried the beans and the white rice– BOTHWEREBLAND as heck, tasted like the beans were straight from a GOYA can. And then the enchiladas– Oh boy, they were made with velveeta cheese. WTH?! and the veggie one didn’t even have cheese on the inside, it was plain veggies. YUCK! Save your money and go to Guapos, Cactus Cantina, Lauriol Plaza, and if none of those Austin Grill(even though I’m not a big fan of that place, but am sure you could find better tasting ones there). Truck looks cool, the food is not.

I’m always on the lookout for good Mexican food and this place is solid. The tamale was delicious, came with guac, cream and salsa and was only $ 4. The enchilada plate was $ 10 and is huge. I thought the enchiladas themselves were a little too dry for me. I like more sauce and this seemed like the tortillas had been just briefly dunked. I went on the early side so maybe they were holding out for the rush?. All of the generous sides(pintos, yellow rice, guac, sour cream and salsa) were great though. And the staff were really nice.

I’ve said it and written it many times before, I like my Mexican food to come from dingy, hole-in-the-wall type of places, and Kalaveras embodies all those things in the form of a food-truck. No offense to the Oyamels or the Rosa Mexicana’s of the world, but I prefer not to pay $ 15 for some tacos. Comparably priced to all other food-trucks, you can get a couple of enchiladas(your choice of red or green… or christmas style) with sides of rice, beans, and guac. I may venture to say that enchiladas are pretty high on my favorite types of junk food, so I’m happy to have Kalaveras rolling around town and I’ll look for them the next time they’re in the neighborhood. If there was one thing that knocked them off the 5-star pedestal, was that the wait was quite long. I appreciate that it’s a mom and daughter shop throwing out some authentically delicious cuisine, but a food truck during the rush of a working lunch hour needs to pick up the pace just a bit. Because I mean, after stuffing my face with cheese, tortilla, and meat, I’m going to need to take a nap. Which means I need my food quick in order for me to make sure I get my food coma siesta out of the way before trudging through the rest of the work day.

I think this is the best mexican food on wheels. I tried the chicken enchiladas verde, simple, authentic, well seasoned. Comes with rice, pinto beans guac, pico, sour cream and a delicious sort or creamy salsa verde on top. I highly recommend them!

I’ll probably re-write a review as I work my way through their menu. Fast service with a smile, the food, as presented was looking good in the box, and was task upon consumption. The nicest touch(which many forget) was a fresh grilled jalapeño between the rice/beans and the fajita(steak) mixture. The accompanying tortillas tasted homemade… it’s hard to find one of these trucks that makes an effort to put nice touches on their meals, and Kalaveras raises the bar. I’m looking forward to their regular return(in the Farragut Square area, the Mexican food options are sparse if you don’t do the trucks).

I second the enchilada vote. I tried the chix enchilada and the portion size was great– very fresh, yet simple ingredients. I opted for the«verde» spicer sauce and was so happy w it all! Mmm finally a good mex food truck!

Amazing new food truck addition to the D.C. area. It’s hard to get Mexican food right, especially in a truck format — and this little truck with its tasty enchiladas(steak Rojas), rice, beans, and fresh guacamole, is absolutely the front runner. The service is reasonably fast, the prices were appropriate($ 10 for my 2 enchiladas and sides), and moreover, the food was simple but delicious.
