my visit was very pleasant. I found the doctor to be very personable, a good conversationalist and the visit was quite painless. I was very happy with the results, and would definitely see him again. the staff was friendly and very professional.

I’m bummed that Dr. Keahey is closing his DC office at the end of the year. He has a second practice in Montgomery Village(Maryland), but unfortunately that that would require a car, which I don’t have. However, if I had a car, I would seriously consider trekking out there instead of finding a new dermatologist(which, incidentally, has not been going well so far — see my applicable Unilocal review). I have been a patient of Dr. Keahey’s for about three years now. He is very professional, takes the time to answer questions(I’ve never felt rushed), and explains why he thinks X or Y should be done. I go for annual mole check-ups and have also had several moles removed. I think he does a very careful and comprehensive mole exam and tends to err on the cautious side when recommending that a mole be removed and sent to the lab for testing. I actually prefer this, as I would rather have a semi-suspicious mole removed(and then later find out it was normal) than to not have it removed and later find out that it is abnormal. Dr. Keahey is very direct about telling you whether he feels a mole absolutely must be removed, or whether he feels it would be okay to just keep an eye on it for the time being. I have never had to make a separate appointment for mole removal, which has been great. In other words, if you go in for a mole check-up and end up needing a mole removed, Dr. Keahey will take care of it at that time. He is very quick, whether it be cauterizing(burning) or scraping the mole to remove it. Any pain is very minimal, and I’ve always been able to carry on with my usual daily activities afterward(of course, I suppose all this depends on where the mole is located). If I recall correctly, I think I needed a couple stitches on just one occasion, and that required a follow-up visit(to remove the stitches), but again, no problems. There was one instance where a mole came back as atypical, and Dr. Keahey recommended having more of the area excised for further testing((a) I know this is probably too much information, and(b) I am probably using all the wrong medical terms). Even though this was a procedure he could do himself, he suggested that I consider having a plastic surgeon do it, in order to minimize scarring, etc. I appreciated that he presented me with all my options, as the idea of going to a plastic surgeon for the procedure would probably not have crossed my mind otherwise. I ended up going to the plastic surgeon recommended by Dr. Keahey, but I’m sure Dr. Keahey would have done just as good of a job. I’m not sure if his DC office is taking new patients(since it will be closing in a couple months), but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to call and inquire. The staff is friendly and professional, and the office itself is easily Metro-accessible. I’ve never had a problem getting an early AM appointment, and I’ve also never had to wait more than a week or two for an appointment either. The only qualm I can possibly think of has to do with a bill(for $ 20) the office erroneously sent me after my most recent visit. The issue stemmed from a bookkeeping error(somehow the«amount due» entry for my $ 10 co-pay and the«amount credited» entry for the same ended up showing that I had a $ 20 balance instead of the correct $ 0 balance) and was easily fixed when my insurance company called the office directly. Not a big deal at all, though. If you live in the Montgomery Village area and are looking for a dermatologist, I definitely recommend Dr. Keahey.
