My dress came back totally discolored.

This is by far the worst place I’ve ever been to in my life. I recently moved to DC from Brooklyn and chose to give this place a shot since it’s conveniently located.
I asked for two alterations, and they didn’t even manage to do it properly. The marked lines were neglected and my pants are still too long! Plus, they charge so much for jobs that they can’t properly do and not deliver it on time. When I went on the date I was supposed to pick up my clothes it still wasn’t ready. The hem job they did was incredibly inadequate, simply folding the pants inward and not even properly stitching it.
They also charge a lot. A polo shirt costs as much as a regular shirt, such a rip off. I’m praying for the day this place goes out of business.

This place did a decent job cleaning up a pair of silk pants that were dirty and stained, leaving only one small stain that they were unable to remove.
However, I had to make three visits before I was able to pick up the pants. First, they were inexplicably closed (no sign on the door, «open» sign lit, no one answering the phone) at noon on a Friday – the exact date and time I had been told my clothes would be ready. I was leaving town that afternoon and had planned to take the pants, but no luck. I returned a second time the following week and was told there was a $ 10 minimum for cards – something I should have noticed (there is a handwritten sign on the cash register), but they were unwilling to budge even once even though this was my first time picking up clothing. I had to leave to withdraw cash and return a third time to retrieve the pants.
In summary, though their location is convenient, their service isn’t, and so I will not be returning and would not recommend them to friends.

UPDATE: Mt Pleasant Cleaners are awesome! I’d recommend going there instead if you live in the neighborhood and are trying to figure out where to take your business

This place completely destroyed the hem of my bridesmaid dress. I’ve never brought dry cleaning here but I would strongly suggest NOT bringing clothes here for alterations.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I recently sold my car so I had to find a dry cleaners within walking distance from my apt — HUGE mistake. First set of clothes I brought in, I looked at one of the shirts, and clearly it had not been dry cleaned, no tag, not pressed, still had stains. The woman insisted it had been cleaned but just not tagged, after much back and forth, she finally agreed to dry clean it. Second set of clothes I brought in, there was a silk blouse with black detail, I got it back with the black detailing significantly faded, and a dress that was red and white that was in the same set of clothes I brought in came back red and grey. Wonder where the dress got the grey discoloration from??? For some reason, (likely laziness and I didn’t like the dress anyway), I went back a third time. I know, I know, so so stupid. So I bring a third set of clothes in and get back a Kate Spade silk dress with burn marks all across the back and arms. I show it to the lady at the desk, she says she doesn’t know what it is, but she will have her husband look at it and they will dry clean it again. I tell her that I brought it to another dry cleaner in the area (because it’s just too much now and I had to move on for the sake of my sanity) and the other dry cleaner said it was a burn mark from the steam iron, and she screams «no» at me and says she will ask her husband. I go back in to pick up the dress, and to add insult to injury, she says her husband said it’s not a burn mark, but instead it is a tear in the threading of the dress because it was too small on me. I am not a big girl by any means (size 6) and this is a loose silk dress anyway but the craziest part is that this is not only insulting, it makes no sense. How on earth are the arms of a dress too tight on me? Who am I, the Incredible Hulk??? Anyway, she had no interest in making me whole after ruining my dress and really more than anything what I wanted was an admission instead of an insult. It’s likely not worth my time to take them to small claims court for a $ 300 dress but it is now my personal mission to make sure no one goes here!!! To top it all off, they are extremely expensive and now I know why they make you pay when you drop off because there is no way I would pay for ruined clothing — which is what they produce. For the sake of your clothes and well being, DO NOT GO HERE!!!

I’ve tried pointing out areas that need extra attention. I get my clothes back still dirty.
I’m done with this place and would suggest that if you need anything more than a good ironing on your clothes, you go elsewhere.

These folks are A-​OK — they get the job done well, and on time.

Great location & fine for clothing in the past if not very pricey BUT do not under any circumstances take your duvets or blankets there. They seriously tried to give me the wrong duvet multiple times. One had stains all over the sides and they’re like «this is yours» and I tell them many many times that mine was brand new and had no stains on the sides. Then she decides that it hasn’t been cleaned yet. The next time they tried to give me one with a different pattern on it and much larger. I tell her «no, mine had stripes». She asked if I’m sure. Then she goes back in the back and rifles among the remaining unlabeled duvets and brings mine out. (AT least I hope it’s mine. It’s the same as mine and seems new so hopefully it is mine.) I don’t get why they don’t label them on the outside of the bag!

They do a great Job. I can’t complain. They are by the metro, and get clothes back to me within 2 days.

That place is OK for drycleaning and pretty close to the metro, but after having tried to get some alterations — I was always very dissapointed, because things were either too much taken in or not enough and I never got my things on time. What I also don’t understand are the changing prices. The lady who is usually ther chooses the prices depending on the day I guess. Once it is $ 10, once $ 15 for the same item. It is a bit confusing…

This place gets the job done. The woman who is usually there is very nice and efficient. I’ve been coming here about once every two weeks for a year and I’ve never had any real problem with the quality of the cleaning. Excellent location right by the Columbia Heights Metro station.
Drawbacks: they aren’t very fast or cheap, and once in a while they don’t arrive until about 10 minutes after their posted opening time. However, the clothes are always ready when promised and I suspect every other place nearby is also pricey.
Good, but it’s not worth making a point of using Kenyon Square Cleaners unless the location is quite convenient for you, as it is for me.

Decent — always ready on time.
The annoying bit is that they are slowing destroying every button on every shirt. Smashed by some unknown machine. Not every time, but frequent enough.
Begrudgingly use because of location convenience.

I use Kenyon Cleaners because it is physically the closest dry cleaners to my home, and it would take somewhere pretty spectacular (or cheap) for me to put any more effort than that into my dry cleaning. I am lazy.
I drop off a pile of clothes here about every other month, and every single time have received them fully cleaned, neatly pressed, and right on time. I’m sure there are much better deals around, as my bill for 3 – 4 dresses and a couple of skirts is usually about $ 65.
I feel like dry cleaners are only reviewed on Unilocal on the rare occasion something goes wrong, so I thought I’d reiterate that for this regular customer, this place is friendly and pretty satisfactory.

After giving this place chance after chance to prove itself, it’s come to this. Being closed during business hours, giving me the wrong clothes (I use the opaque, reusable bag and, hence, don’t see my clothes until they’re hanging at home), not having items done by the time they promise… done with Kenyon Square.
When they gave me the wrong clothes, I hoped they might try to make it up to me with a little discount or free cleaning. That didn’t happen, so I asked whether they’d consider giving me a break on the price the next time I was cashing out; they reduced my bill by less than ten percent. The woman that’s usually there is pretty sweet, but actual customer service just doesn’t mean much to this business, I think.

Do not use this place for your tailoring needs. They messed up two pair of dress pants I gave them. The owner is kinda cold and lacks some basic customer service.

W. T. F?! Sooooo I’m pretty sure if I were to read a dry cleaner’s Mission Statement it would read something like, «Clean the clothes. Get them back on time. And do it well.»
This place did not have my clothes ready on time! The ticket said «ready on Tuesday at 5,» and it was Wednesday morning!!! This caused me to be late work (I had to run home to change), miss a meeting and ultimately be scolded by my boss.
When I asked why they weren’t ready I received no answer, just a shrug. When I requested some type of discount or coupon, I was refused. I even told them I would never honor their business again AND, I would write them a nasty Unilocal review (voila!). Still… no dice.
Unless Tuesday at 5pm somehow means Wednesday at 5pm, don’t trust your clothes will be ready on time.
P. S. Had a worse experience where they lost my pants at Georgetown Valet, but they were fantastic in redressing the issue. Check out that review.

I moved from Ohio where I had an amazing dry cleaner with free pick up and drop off and many other amazing perks. When I moved to DC, I was at a loss. First, this city is dang expensive, so many places instantly get DQ’ed for their outrageous rates; $ 20 bucks for a suit, please… I have used Zips a few times because they are cheap, but guess what; you get what you pay for. After talking to a coworker that recommended Kenyon, I figured what the heck.
4 pairs of pants, a shirt and 3 suits for around $ 50! And they over charged me and made sure to point out that I had a credit! How great is that, most places would jump at the extra money, but not this place!
I will be coming back and telling others to go!

I was running late after work one night and called kenyon square cleaners to see if they could wait 5 minutes after their closing time for me. The nice korean lady waited and was extremely nice about my inconvenience!
My dry cleaning was ready three days later. I had a pea coat and sweater done and they both are clean. My bill was about $ 22, which is decent. I’m also getting three buttons that came off of another coat sown on again for $ 3.
The place is right by the Columbia Heights metro, across from the Target.
Great location, friendly staff, family-​owned, and local. Woot woot.

I call this the $ 2 Bill Test.
I inadvertently discovered this test at Kenyon Square Cleaners to determine how honest and reliable the folks are at your dry cleaners. About a few months ago, I had to get my Giorgio Armani suit taken care. Unbeknownst to me, I had a $ 2-​Dollar Thomas Jefferson tucked in one of my pockets. A few moments later, I felt compelled to return to the Kenyon Square Cleaners for additional assurances that my Giorgio Armani suit would be in good hands. What sort of assurances? I wouldn’t know because I realized what a foolish request it was went I started speaking to the attendant. As if I was going to ask, «My suit’s going to be alright, won’t it?» as if it was the first day of kindergarten. As I was about to leave a second time, the attendant opened up the a drawer and handed me a $ 2-​Dollar Bill with a sticky note attached to it. The sticky note had my name. Its the job of the attendants to rummage through pockets for foreign objects but what’s to stop them from pocketing some extra change? A $ 2-​Dollar Bill is unusual enough that they might hold it for you and unique enough that you can lay claim to it. Moreover, this test will demonstrate how thorough they examine your pockets and whether they’ll pocket the findings.
3 Stars — I’m not familiar with the other dry cleaners in the Columbia Heights area so Kenyon Square Cleaners will be the starting benchmark. Also, they’ve been on a 20% Off promotion for your entire bill special since August 2008.
