I interviewed, the Director, Ms. Deborah Price during my search for daycare. Upon our initial phone conversation, I thought this homebased center might be a suitable place for my son who at the time was just over 18 months. The childcare area is located in the basement of a residential home. The space provided was visually overwhelming and almost seemed to be hazardous. Every inch of space contained something. However, Ms. Price was warm during our initial meeting as I explained my son’s health conditions and some of his medical history. I later called back to only ask if this particular daycare took children on a drop-​in basis. When I explained who I was and that I had met with Ms. Price earlier, I was told by Ms. Price’s daughter that Ms. Price had later said she would have refused the enrollment of my son anyway because he was too «wild».
First of all, I clearly see a problem within an adult that labels a young child with such derogatory names. Secondly, it was extremely unprofessional for her daughter to pass this information on to me over the phone. Third, if Ms. Price felt that way, I think this is something she should have explained in a much more professional manner during one of our encounters.
