Maids in Black

I just used Maids in Black for the first time and they were WONDERFUL! The were kind and professional from the very start — from scheduling the service over the phone to their actual cleaning service. They went above and beyond and everything looked great! I will definitely be using them again!

So I had unexpected visitors come in last night and had to put them up. When the cleaning crew arrived, they were very courteous and offered to come back next week because of the circumstance. Gilberto, on the other hand, pressed for a cancellation and rescheduling fee. I explained the situation and noted that if he really wanted to press for a fee, despite our years history together, then he could lose a customer with his decision.
Gilberto needs a lesson in customer retention. I understand that today was an inconvenience, but he opted for $ 70 for one day, all while losing $ 120 monthly. I don’t want to be affiliated with a company that doesn’t make customer satisfaction paramount. I even called him on the error of his ways, challenging him on his decision to let me go — to no avail.
Very, very poor form.
On the up-side…the cleaning crews consistently gave a 4-​star experience… there’s something to be said for consistency.

Maids In Black was able to clean my place on short notice, showed up on time and did a great job. I can’t wait for my wife to see the place after she comes home from her trip. The place looks so great I don’t want to sit on my sofa so she can see how spotless everything looks

Hard pass.
I just cancelled my service with MIB.
They are shockingly inconsistent, we’ve had great cleaning jobs at times and in other instances they’ve had to refund three cleanings in a row because of objectively horrible work by their crews.
Last straw was today. Crew showed up an hour into the window (they’re supposed to be finished by end of two hour window), couldn’t get into the building (even though the MIB dispatch have clear instructions on how to access building), and as I’m writing this they are still in my apt 50 minutes after they’re supposed to be done.
Called MIB dispatch and they were gone for the day, which is shockingly unprofessional given that they have crews out on jobs.
Pass on MIB.

I called this morning to see if they had any availability this afternoon and they did! I appreciate them taking me on such short notice. They arrived exactly when they said they would (5 mins early) and were prompt and pretty thorough. They cleaned thoroughly and didn’t take forever. The customer service person I spoke with (I think Felicia) was very pleasant and competent. I will be using MIB again.

We’ve had Maids in Black come by three times now. The first time they were late, but they called and that was ok. The problem was they had another appointment, so while they did the big things: vacuum, bathrooms and bedrooms, but they missed a lot of the little things. There was still dirt in the corners, big portions were missed. Then they were off to the next appointment and I tidied up after them.
The next time, we just clicked repurchase and were told that we only paid for one bathroom. So in our 2.5 bath place, we only got one cleaned. It’s not their fault. But maybe that was an error in the ordering system and our fault for not double-​checking.
The third time the Maids in Black were on time and did a fine job cleaning, but the little things were just overlooked. They dusted picture frames and then left them all crooked. They opened a drawer that got stuck open. Instead of pointing it out to us, they just left it open. We have a table with four picture frames (2 on each side) they cleaned the table but didn’t put the frames back. A table next to the couch was moved over and never put back.
We were happy to have our place cleaned by wonderful people who work hard to make appointments on time. We just would like the details to not go overlooked.

I have used MIB for several months now, and have always been satisfied. You can set a fixed schedule, and when you come home, the place is spotless. They’re great with pets, and don’t charge extra for them either.
A great deal for a job well done-​better than I would clean for sure!
It’s always great to support a local business as well.

Have you noticed most of these reviews are for one-​off clients? We’ve been using MIB for a year and a half (because I’ve been too busy to find another service), but I’m now done with them. D.O.N.E.
Don’t get me wrong, their customer service is great. They have to be… they’re constantly apologizing for their cleaning teams, who cancel appointments, show up late, break things, make household items «disappear», forget to vacuum entire rooms, etc.
All of the above happened to us. One time I got a call asking if the team could come early. «Sure,» I said. Then they showed up 2 hours late. (This was after canceling an appointment on us.)
Another team couldn’t explain how 2 totally inconsequential items that I use daily were suddenly gone from my house (and not mistakenly thrown out because I checked the trash). Yet another team who had been here 3 times managed to break things on 2 of those visits.
So let me tell you how your relationship with them will go: they’ll do a fantastic job the first time. Gradually the service will deteriorate (although they’ll still expect their tip). You can ask for another team and they’ll be happy to send one, but then the same thing happens again, probably with the assorted nuisances I’ve already mentioned.

I had two cleaners from Maids in Black come over on very short (24 hours) notice to clean my 800 square foot condo. My usual cleaners couldn’t fit me in their schedule so I booked with MIB. It took them an hour and I thought they did an alright job. My usual cleaners (which are more expensive) do an awesome job so I guess this is a classic «you get what you pay» for experience.
My 3 biggest issues are that they didn’t plug anything back into electrical outlets, they flat out misses certain areas (see picture) and some parts they did clean, but just didn’t do as good of a job as I’ve come to expect from previous professional cleaners. Perhaps the last two issues are the biggest for me — specifically they didn’t clean the floor behind a floor standing mirror, on window ledges, my microwave and the window frames. These are the areas I noticed after a day or two so I’m not sure what else was missed.
I appreciate their flexibility in being able to schedule me in last minute and the maids were very nice, however I probably wouldn’t use them again because of the multiple areas I found which weren’t as clean as I had expected and the areas they missed.

Finally, a no-​nonsense housekeeping service. They put stuff back where they find it, they don’t add any fancy flourishes like folding the toilet paper into a point like at a hotel, they come, they clean.
I opted for the «clean fridge interior» option and it’s spotless.
I requested they focus on certain aspects of the house and they did. Great stuff.
Plus, online booking and customer care. Yay!
Why only four stars? They knocked the AppleTV on the floor. Oh well.

Very responsive and overall a great team. Unfortunately if you have a loft style apartment or anything with high ceilings, nothing above arms reach will get cleaned as the crew isn’t allowed to get on a step stool or ladder. If I had a normal style apartment, I would gladly use them over and over again, but with my style of apartment, I’m paying good money to only get it half cleaned.
Their services of cleaning cabinets, refergerator, etc is very good. They were extremely thorough.

I’m updating my review as of 6÷20÷15. All of what is written below is true but the team that usually cleans my house, Robertos team, is no longer with the company. I don’t know why. So today they send Blanca and Claudia. They came at 2:30pm and left at 3:05pm. A one bedroom one bath condo that is not that small takes much more time that that. They wiped the whole kitchen with a dirty smelly sponge. They didn’t even put some effort into the oven top which remained dirty. They didn’t fold anything. They removed the carpets and put them back incorrectly. It was a terrible experience. My home smelled gross and felt gross. I emailed MIB immediately and I received a refund. I am downgrading them to four stars for having such terrible employees represent them. That should not happen. I don’t plan to recur the service anymore. I have been using them almost 4 months now. It’s convenient but I won’t let nasty folk come mess up my place.

I have had two visits by maids in black at this point. I think it is time for them to get a review. Last year (before I moved to DC) when I was visiting my husband, I attempted to book Maids in Black (MIB) but we had to cancel for a reason I can’t remember.
Most recently I booked them online. I signed up for the recurring cleaning which saves me 15%. The day there were supposed to come was the day before my trip to Chicago. It was also the week of a lot of snow. They had to cancel. (That stinks I thought). Okay fine, don’t get annoyed, just reschedule so I did and I am glad I did.
Small side bar: you have to keep in mind that anyone from Chicago would get annoyed if a service was canceled or a business closed down because of snow. We see snow as an annoying part of life and you move on. We walk thru the snow to school and nobody ever closes unless it is below 60 degrees. So I was annoyed with MIB but I also realize all of DC is like that.
Anyhoo, they were rescheduled for a Saturday between 830‑1030. They give a two hour window of arrival which is good so their customers don’t get annoyed if they are thirty minutes behind. Roberto and his partner arrived around 840. They came in with their supplies and basically asked where they should start. I pointed them in the right direction (I was also cleaning and organizing along with them but that is neither here nor there)
They did a great job the first time. They add that hotel touch too with the towel folding and what not. I requested Roberto and his crew the second time as well. This time Roberto showed up with a different partner but she was still just as good.
They vacuum the carpets, sweep, shine the wood flooring too. They cleaned the stainless steel as well as folded all of our clean laundry thAt I had been busy with.
They mopped the bathroom floors and found all the hidden dust in the corners of the house. He even dusted and vacuumed the couch without me asking.
I know it seems basic but not all cleaning services even give you the basics. I have been very satisfied with their work, attentiveness and punctuality. I really recommend them. You will be happy with the service and feel the money was totally worth it. Ask for Roberto and crew. Seriously!

Just had my first service with Maids in Black I think they did a wonderful job, gave the house a thorough cleaning, worked around my pets and kept them out of rooms that they had been closed off from.
I am very happy with the service I received and I will have them back routinely.

This was my first time using a cleaning service and it was a great experience. I was going to be home from work one day this week and decided that my apt. could use a good cleaning. I easily booked by calling and talking to one of the reps (although they do have online booking available– I like to talk to people the first time and ask questions)
I like that they charge a flat rate that includes taxes and everything. There were no surprises. I had a question the morning of my cleaning and got a quick response. Two lovely women came by and cleaned every nook and cranny of my apt. I also paid extra to have them organize a few of my closets. One woman was a better organizer than the other but heck, I wasn’t going to organize it myself so I’m just glad to have some neat closets.
My only complaint is that the «maids» were not in black! With the company name, it would have been cool to have them show up in Black! But anyway, they did a great job cleaning and I’m happy with the service. I will definitely be saving my pennies and getting a cleaning again.

I am extremely happy with the team that comes to my home to clean. This past weekend they arrived a little earlier than expected and immediately started cleaning. They were early because of the impending snow storm we were expecting in the DC area. The two women worked very fast and efficient and even did a few things above and beyond what I expected.
My sister lives 20 minutes from me and she uses a different cleaning service — she pays $ 100 MORE than I do and we have the same size home. Actually, I think my home might be bigger. So for all of you who are stating that MIB is more expensive — it really isn’t. I have had 2 other cleaning companies in my home and I know that I am getting a lower rate with a great team of professionals.
I had one company destroy my hardwood floors because they used a hard abrasive cleaner.
MIBs are the best. I actually feel like hugging them when they are finished.

After moving into a bigger place last year, I finally decided to pull the trigger and start using professional cleaning services. I went through a few cleaning companies before I signed up for a recurring service with Maids in Black. Thus far Maids in Black is my favorite — their pricing is not the cheapest but is competitive for the area, and they are super responsive and flexible, which is something I’m willing to pay extra for. The services are very easy to book (online), and easy to pay for (also online).
I’ve been using Maids in Black for about 4 months now, and have them come once a month — I do light/​surface cleaning about once a week, and rely on them to do a deeper scrub. I am so happy with the service. Our 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo is now spotless around the clock — so spotless that you can walk around in white socks and they stay white!
The cleaners generally arrive on time, and I was notified via phone the one time they were running late due to another job taking longer than expected. They are friendly, thorough, and do everything exactly as requested. When they are done, they ask you to walk through and check whether everything was done to your liking — if they missed a spot, just point it out and they’ll come back and take care of it. You can also add on optional services such as oven cleaning, windows, or laundry (so far I’ve only used the oven cleaning services once, and they did a great job.)
Highly recommended.

I’ve used the Maids twice and been exceedingly pleased with the results. Both times they did an excellent job cleaning and were there for the expected amount of time. The best part: you pay by room, so they were an excellent way to take care of cleaning my studio apartment when I moved out of it. I’d happily hire them again for similar jobs.

The beauty of MIB is that it’s so convenient! You can book online and pay online. You will receive an email after your service asking you to provide a rating for your cleaning service. I really like the quality control. You can select to have the same crew come every time which is an added bonus. It’s great to know who will be in your home.
It took some time to find a crew that cleaned my house the way I would clean but now I’m hooked after finding Karla & Digna! They pay attention to the details and are so sweet. We have a small single family home and they spend about 2 hours cleaning and they work hard!
