Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt

Holy cow, 63 cents/​oz makes a difference when you’re used to 49 cents/​oz. I was craving froyo and this was the closest spot but did not expect to spend almost $ 7 for about half of what I would’ve gotten at a Pinkberry. One of the flavors was very melty and was a puddle in my cup by the time I went to pay… I mentioned this to the girl at the cashier and she just said ok and looked bored.
Tip: they have dividers which seems awesome bc you can cleanly separate flavors from each other, but this adds to the weight of your cup! I could’ve gotten 3 more gummy bears instead!

I met Mr. Keith today Awesome little Shop specially for my kids. Very friendly and attentive customer service from Mr. Keith. I will be coming back soon, specially now that we are getting warmer weather!

I had such a delicious experience at the Menchie’s in Hanover that I was super excited to stop by this Menchie’s while in DC for an overnight trip. The consistency just wasn’t the same. On the positive side, they offered mini waffles and lots and lots of topping choices. There was also a toasty «fireplace» there too… perfect for a cold winter day!

Menchie’s high Unilocal rating, made me very curious. Did my beloved Pinkberry have some competition on this planet after all? I was eager to find out! My tastebuds have been telling me, Pinkberry was the king of frozen yogurt. Well, I was very impressed with the cute and colorful décor of Menchie’s, but not the frozen yogurt. I was greeted by a courteous staff member, that let me sample a few yogurt flavors. The first thing I noticed, was the very soft texture. I prefer frozen yogurt that is very firm. Secondly, most of the yogurt flavors here are too sweet for my liking. I eventually selected the original yogurt and the flavor was average, not as flavorful as Pinkberry’s. It did not have the distinct tartness and creamy flavor, I love. I always get a fresh fruit topping, but it wasn’t happening here. The fruit toppings did not look fresh. The strawberries looked mushy. Reluctantly, I selected the M&M’s candy. The M&M’s added a little flavor to the yogurt. Limited seating is available inside and outside of the shop. I gave Menchie’s a three star rating, mainly for the ambience and the great customer service. Menchie’s failed to take my tastebuds to flavor heaven. Therefore, I will not be back anytime soon. Pinkberry is clearly the winner!

Menchies is great but just always seems a bit dirty. Would love it to be a bit tidied up with more fresh fruit.

I was so pleasantly surprised by Menchie’s. The yogurt was great (and lots of flavor options) and the toppings were plentiful. And I mean PLENTIFUL. So many options of all kinds – fruit, chocolates, candies, syrups. I’ve never seen anything like it.
The only downside, I think, is that if you want water you have to buy a bottle.
Wish we had Menchie’s all over the city!

Cute, comfortable place on a friendly corner off U Street. Not a whole lot of seating, but this also doesn’t feel like the kind of place you would sit and park with a laptop or anything.
Great froyo! Chocolate and vanilla swirl is top notch.
Also appreciated the samples! They let you take mini-​cups and go around to all the spouts for a taste test. I’m sure this system is never, ever abused.

For our last stop in DC for the day, we swung by Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt after dinner and drinks. None of us were hungry — but this place just looked awesome. Its standard serve yourself fro-​yo with plenty of toppings including fresh fruit, brownies, candy and a great selection of sauces.
I was surprised at how cheap my order came out to (under $ 5) — and how much my friend managed to spend once he loaded a cup up with brownies and chocolate sauce and god knows what else ($ 15). He texted a picture of it to his girlfriend, proceeded to finish it, then texted her «my stomach hurts». Still, he did finish what must have been a pound of sugar — after a very generous dinner — so if that isn’t a clear endorsement of Menchie’s, I don’t know what is.

During the summer, menchie has an amazing deal where you can put all you want in one bowl for 5 dollars (unlimited toppings and froyo). You would spend as much anyways! And believe me I WENT TO TOWN! I got one of the dividers and got everything. I seriously ate it all!!!
Here is a review of everything I tried:
Froyo:
1. Honeydew: very frothy yet thirst quenching. Think it has a cream taste to it!
2. Pomegranate — ultimate favorite — very poignant in flavor and it is worth a try. Doesn’t empower all other flavors.
3. Pineapple — delicious tropical pic that will please you no matter what. I just loved how fruity it was. Totally suggest this if you wanted something really sweet.
4. Passion fruit — very tropical yet not too strong like other passion fruit things!
5. Original — very tart and flavorful at the same time. Goes perfect with all their toppings!
Array of toppings:
Tiny gummy bears (yes), lots of cut fruit (hell yes), circle waffle crisps (oh yeah now you’re talking), mochi (oh oh oh), and wait for it… Popping boba or tapioca or balls (yes yes yes yes yes omg yes!!!) ALL HEAVEN IN MY MOUTH
I always get four flavors in one especially this time but I would suggest doing two and putting a lot of toppings. Really savors the flavor!!! Thanks Menchi for a wonderful experience!

Menchie’s is my #1 fro-​yo spot in DC. I give them high marks in all of the important categories:
FLAVORS. Menchie’s has enough flavors to satisfy both fruity and sweet fro-​yo preferences. I want to say they have at least ten rotating flavors. Of course, you won’t always like every flavor, but that’s where the tasting cup comes in handy. Menchie’s allows you to fill up your own sample cups before you make your final fro-​yo creation. I usually go with Menchie’s sweet fro-​yo– one of my favorites is their chai flavor. Once I tried their Cinnabon flavor and it tasted really fake so I wouldn’t recommend that one.
TOPPINGS. Menchie’s has the best selection of toppings! They have shredded coconut and sliced almonds (my fav toppings– high flavor and crunch, little weight). Their fruit is fresh and they have five different syrups. I always like to add a little of the chocolate syrup that hardens.
It seems like DC’s «fro-​yo bubble» is finally bursting but I really hope Menchie’s sticks around. With their rotating flavors and large buffet of toppings, I keep coming back and always leave happy :)

When done wrong, do right. After I wrote my review last month, someone contacted me to figure out the day and time of the event and offered me a free yogurt. He tracked down the incident and offered sincere apologies.
What I greatly appreciate is a few direct Unilocal messages and efforts to apologize and do right. It’s not a big deal I can’t get frozen yogurt; however, the gesture recognizes the minor inconvenience I experienced and my frustration. That says a lot about customer service.
When I came back today, sure enough, an envelope was at the register with my name and I redeemed the $ 5 reward.
The flavors were a little runny so I didn’t love that and the place was very warm which sped up the melting. On top of that, it’s now $ 0.63/ounce, and the brownies were in huge chunks and not super fresh.
Those observations aside, the other toppings were great and the frozen yogurt flavors were delicious. Like I told the person who contacted me, I’d come back regardless of the place not being open inexplicably. It’s clean, it’s well decorated, it’s in a good location with close access to the U. St. Metro station, and it’s got a good rotation of flavors.

Ah, I was first introduced to Menchie’s in Georgia, and I was so happy to see that it exists in DC! Frozen yogurt has become a big thing recently, and I think Menchie’s does it well. Menchie’s has a pay-​by-​weight model, so you can get just as much as you want!
Some favorites:
–pineapple (tastes like the kind in Disney World)
–plain tart
–cake batter
–any fruit sorbet
They also have great toppings – actually fresh fruit, mochi pieces, and a wide assortment of candies (chocolate and gummy). It’s a great froyo option right near U Street and 14^th!

LOVE Menchie’s. My friend and I come here at least twice a week.
Best froyo in the area, friendly staff, and the best part — they let you try as many flavors as you want. The flavors are constantly changing, so you never get bored. And as long as you keep it relatively tame with the toppings, you can have a delicious, low-​cal dessert here for about $ 3.
The location is great, too — right off U St., the near the metro, and only a few blocks from my apartment (OK, perhaps I’m a little biased on this one).

Great froyo and easily the nicest staff in DC. The little attentions to detail like the magnetized containers and the heavy spoons make a huge difference. The green apple tart is amazing!

I love a good froyo.
I came in near closing on a Monday night and the place was empty save the solo employee. She greeted us and explained how it works — no different from the rest of the pay by weight shops. Although I haven’t seen any one else with specials like $ 5 Tuesdays — fill your cup up and the most you pay is $ 5! Cool.
I sampled tangy tangerine, mango and orange. I think that the first is the best and I didn’t really care for the last.
Overall not bad.

THE PLACE to get frozen yogurt.
Now I never thought I’d say a frozen yogurt shop is superior to an ice cream shop, but we live in a city where crazy things happen. Not only is Menchie’s yogurt unique, flavorful, and even low calorie in some cases but also is a social hang out space. The place is owned by an outstanding (and extremely friendly) gay guy, so this place has a lot of traffic coming in that is sassy, outrageous, and an all around good time. I ended up meeting a whole bunch of cool new people while eating frozen yogurt. I don’t think it gets much better than this.

I had the mud pie frozen yogurt with Oreo pieces and yogurt chips, which was very tasty.
I came here as part of a Unilocal event and it was great to have an opportunity to meet the owners, who are very friendly and passionate about their business. They talked about how they give a portion of their profits back to the surrounding community by donating to local preschools, neighborhood playgrounds, and other charities in the area.
The owners also filled us in on how the color changing spoons are collectible as they change the design and it will change colors over 800 times.
They have daily specials and I definitely will be back on a Sunday to try the special s’mores flavor. The owners also talked about how they want Menchie’s to be a part of the neighborhood where you’d meet up with friends to check out.
Overall, delicious fro yo and it’s great to be supporting a business that gives back to the local community!

I came here for a Unilocal event and was treated to a pre-​made cup of the special Dole pineapple flavor. I topped it with white chocolate chips (or yogurt chips, not sure) and fruity pebbles. I have to say, maybe it was because I was pretty hungry, but it was probably the best frozen yogurt I’ve had in DC.
Before devouring that I was encouraged to try as many samples as I wanted. The «It’s Pumpkin Time» was absolutely delicious! I can’t even imagine needing to put toppings on that. I could definitely see eating at least a quart of that in one sitting.
Good thing yogurt is good for you! Right?
Well, needless to say, whenever I’m looking for something sweet on U Street I now know where to go. YUM!

This new place right off U Street is a nice addition and needed for the area since they do not have something like it.
In terms of flavors/​toppings/​etc it was just alright. Nothing that makes it stand out from the rest.
I did appreciate the owner overhearing a conversation I was having with a friend about cheesecake bites being offered at a place I went to in NYC and he jumped in to offer them from the back. That was nice.

Eating a cup of Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is like the Main Street Parade at Disney World in your mouth.
For many years, woman have turned to fro yo to turn their frowns upside down. Menchie’s is no exception. From smiling swirly cones, brightly colored spoons, and stickers of sprinkle covered men this place is over the counter Zoloft.
When I come here my game plan is this: grab a mini cup and try all of the new, rotating flavors (I come here often enough that this is not a twenty minute process), grab a sample of my favorite vanilla bean indulgence and then fill up with a healthy tart yogurt with fresh fruit and passionfruit boba mixings. Get the bubbles — they pop in your mouth and are basically candy caviar. So good!
The best part about this place is all of their flavors are all natural and the milk comes from happy cows and are RBST free. Woop!
