Sandwich was good. Service was pretty bad. The one friendly woman who took my order got it wrong. The other woman I interacted with either hated me at first sight or had no social skills. Saturday at noon. Not crowded. Not sure why the staff was grumpy and the sandwich slow. It wasn’t a good value.

I tried the roast beef via Über eats. It was a solid roast beef sandwich; nice bread and lots of roast beef. Perhaps a little too heavy on the mustard and a little light on the seasoning. You can tell its creator takes pride in it and any minor criticism aside, I wasn’t in any way disappointed. But the best roast beef ever as some people have called it? I can’t agree with that. It’s just a very solid roast beef sandwich. I took an extra star off because their offer today said it included chips but they didn’t actually provide chips(the Über driver was confused about that, too). I’d eat there in person but wouldn’t order against through Über Eats because the sandwich wasn’t good enough to justify the Eats markup.

A meatlovers paradise!!! The meat oh! the Meat! Tender, nicely seasoned and mouthwatering. I am drooling as I write this review. I have eaten here twice and am always happy upon departure. You can customize your sandwich which I usually do with an onion roll. They cater and the cake they have made up is also delicious. BEST in DC by far! SOLD!

Food is okay, but the service is terrible – staff are rude every time – not to mention slow and overpriced.

The staff here is fantastic! I always get service with a smile when I come in for lunch! The food is super fresh and the assortment of condiments really lets you customize everything the way you like. My favorite is the top round which is always cooked to perfection! I just found out I can order through Unilocal… this place just keeps getting better!!!

Hands down the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I got the brisket with as assortment of toppings. The brisket was moist and perfect. Best restaurant in NEDC by far.

Sandwiches are good… but I’m not 100% convinced the quality justifies the price. Though I’m not lost on the fact that they are carving freshly roasted meats right in front of me and making everything to order. That’s why it still gets 4 stars in spite of the price. This time I got turkey and bacon on rye with lto, banana peppers, mustard, mayo, oil & vinegar – $ 13.52. It wasn’t as flavorful as the last time, but still did the trick! I didn’t get fries, but I have in the past and they are good too! I’ve had a breakfast sandwich once with egg, bacon and cheese… nothing special.

Ok, so don’t get me wrong: the meat is good. Not sell-your-firstborn good, but definitely better-than-most good, particularly in the DC sandwich scene. But that’s where the positives end. $ 13 – 15 for a sandwich? With no sides? That isn’t even all that big? It took them 5 minutes after my order on an empty Friday afternoon to notice they didn’t have the meat I’d ordered. And then offered me a different sandwich in exchange, but nothing extra at all. And then tried to bag our sandwiches three different times despite our insistence we didn’t need a bag. The brisket’s good, but nowhere near as good as DCity Smokehouse. There’s just not much that makes $ 29 for two relatively small sandwiches with no sides and shoddy service worth it… Update to respond to Jake below: Yes, we were there on the 14th, around 2PM.

Four star joint, but lost one star due to high prices. This place is quite expensive– you can easily drop $ 15 on a sandwich, which is rather silly IMO. Might as well go to Union Market down the street at that price point, which is a more exciting experience w/many more options. The breakfast and lunch are great, though. Orders are self-written at the counter on easy-to-understand slips of paper, which are color-coded for sandwiches vs. salads. All the meats are fresh, hand-carved, and succulent, and there’s no shortage of toppings. I recommend the brisket and breakfast sandwiches. Regarding the latter, be aware– they stop serving breakfast at 10 or 11(can’t remember which). Also, they’re not open on Sundays, which is a huge bummer. Ambiance is cool– you get the old school DC types that might chat you up, versus the reserved yuppies that you might encounter in NW. Despite the new addition they put on out front w/lots more seating and a television above the bar, they’re still pushing for that old-time feel by playing oldies, which I enjoy. This would def be a **** place if it wasn’t for the prices. I doubt they’ll drop them, though, as every municipal employee in the District of Columbia has breakfast and lunch here throughout the work week.

MGM Roast Beef has the best sandwich in dc for sure. Owner is serious about his food. Every sandwich is hand carved to order. All of the meat is cooked and seasoned to perfection! If you’re in the dmv check it out!

This place is absolutely amazing! The second you walk in, you are hit by the smell of perfectly in-house roasted turkey, baked ham, and slow-cooked brisket. I went there for lunch with a few friends. I got the Thanksgiving Dinner. It is an open faced sandwich loaded with fresh roasted turkey(white and dark meat), delicious homemade cornbread stuffing, and traditional cranberry sauce all smothered in gravy. The Thanksgiving sandwich was simply to-die-for. For $ 11 I got enough food to feed 2 – 3 people so it was also a steal of deal. My friends got the chicken salad sandwich and roast beef sandwich, which they both said was the best they had ever had. The sandwiches are made to order, so it took 15 minutes to get our food after we placed our order. I realize this is not long in the scheme of things, but I thought it would have been a bit faster since there was only one person ahead of me in line and all the ingredients were made(they just needed assembling). The sandwich builders were very friendly, however. The shop has very limited parking. Several cars were parked such that they were blocking other cars. While I was there, a few car owners(including my friend) had to move their vehicles mid-meal in order to free trapped cars. The on-point food, however, made everything totally worth it! This is a definite repeat experience.

Best sandwich in DC by far!!! The brisk it is excellent. The top round is delicious. Whenever I’m in the area I stop and whenever I’m craving I drive here.

My coworker/work partner in crime put me on to this spot for lunch one day. He said the meats were cut to order and everything was really good so I took his word for it. It’s located on the corner of Brentwood Road so the parking lot has limited parking. They have also expanded to add an extra wing for additional seating area. We decided to sit at the bar which I learned after sitting down was the only place that gets seat service. If you sit anywhere else in the restaurant you have to stand in line to order your food and wait to be called. I ordered the hawaiian sandwich, ham, pineapple, bacon and BBQ sauce. Sounds delicious is theory but I felt it was missing something. I’m a smoked meat/BBQ queen and I guess since it was missing that smoked taste I want sold on this particular sandwich. They give you samples of all the meat and I smoked their top round. Really juicy, perfectly cooked and I know it would make a bomb ass french dip. Immediately after my sample I regretted not getting the french dip. I gave the place four stars because of the serving/seating thing mainly. I’m sure the other sandwiches are really good. Not saying my sandwich wasn’t good but it just tasted plain.

I remove one star only because they don’t serve their amazing sandwiches before 10:30, so we settled for a really awesome, relatively inexpensive breakfast! Nice that they have some more seating now. Counter service is good, though we waited forever for our check! The next time I go, I will make sure not to get there before 10:30…oh so good!

It’s been a while(almost a year), but MGM Roast Beef never disappoints! The prices have gone up, but I’m attributing it to the new extra space dining room addition. A NICETOUCH! Take note of their new«signature sandwiches» and increased dessert(cake) offerings. A variety of hand carved salads are offered too! No complaints outside of the lack of available parking and business hours(which limit my visits). The food, service and music are always good! Still the BESTSANDWICHES in the«DMV» in my opinion, that keeps me coming back! :-)

I have passed this place a few times but never came in… until today. As I walked inside, I noticed that the diner is under construction but it wasn’t noisy at all. I saw all of the signs of a great breakfast spot. Different socioeconomic classes sitting down together with police officers sprinkled in the mix. Tip: always follow the police because they only eat at the best places. Now back to my review; I sat down next to some workers from Metro and they explained the menu’s best breakfast items. I ordered the grits and over easy eggs with sausage. My grits were creamy and delicious but I was disappointed with eggs. They were overcooked but the sausage was perfect. The environment and friendly staff still made me want to give this place 4 stars even though my eggs were overcooked.

News flash, my fellow carnivores – MGM Roast Beef is in the midst of an expansion! I have always found this place to be intriguing. Come and SEE what kind of hot meat you are getting because it’s the star here. Your eyes can gaze upon the hunks of roasted ham, brisket, top round, turkey, chicken that are freshly carved in front of you and then made into two-fisted meals. Their signature roast beef sandwich is consistently outstanding. I have yet to find a better one in DC. Try it with horseradish sauce or the fresh stuff. I can never finish it; it’s generous. This is an establishment where testosterone rules. The french fries come with the skins on and make me wanna holler. Watch how a Type A, talkative, macho man quiets down as he hunkers over his meaty sammie and ingests it – beautiful. Well, at least to me. The ladies out there who love meat – make a trip to Northeast DC and get your protein needs met here one day; you will not regret it. Don’t arrive after lunch, though, you may be disappointed. The top round(roast beef) can sell out. Eat-in or carry-out. Parking can be a challenge but there is a small private lot.

After not being particularly impressed by the lunch sandwiches at MGM Roast Beef, especially considering the price point, I think it’s only fair to applaud them for their breakfasts. It’s actually ironic that their breakfast can be considered a bargain. Walking in for breakfast, you really feel that whole neighborhood diner vibe taking shape. Folks sitting down amongst each other, chatting at random while catching up with the late breaking news on SportsCenter. Today, I was sitting next to an older gentleman having a conversation with someone on his left. The thing was, nobody was on his left. Well, nobody that anyone else other than him could see. He did talk to me about his travels, particularly in his role as the Emperor of Japan. It was a fascinating conversation with Emperor Darnell and definitely a lot better than being at work! The breakfast offerings include sandwiches(scrambled egg with choice of meat served on white, wheat or rye bread). First off, definitely a hearty portion size. The eggs are fluffy and my choice of meat(sausage) was tender, juicy and seasoned. Great way to start the day. The price for this wonderful creation? $ 3.49!!! The last time I paid $ 3.49 for something, I stole $ 5.00 from my dad’s wallet, went to the neighborhood candy store and got a $hitload of treats to get a rush off of. The breakfast also features French Toast, Pancakes, Waffles, Eggs and Omelet platters, each of which are served with a choice of meat(bacon, sausage, ham) along with a choice of Creamed Grits or Home Fries. I’ve ordered the Waffle Platter, which came with sides of bacon and home fries. The waffle is massive! In addition to that, the texture is pretty balanced so that you get some fluffiness along with some crunch. That’s the mark of a good waffle in my book. The bacon and home fries were seasoned and plentiful. How much is this platter of food? Well, let’s consider that many parts of the DC area will charge one kidney and the rights to your first born. Due to the sad state of the American dollar, that roughly equates to a range of $ 10 — $ 16. At MGM? $ 5.95! Is there anything more to say? Yes! Go have some breakfast!
