A lobby bar inside the Renaissance Hotel on the 9th street. I was not impressed with the margarita and the tequila sunrise drink I asked the bartender to make. I have had much better drinks in a dive bar. Maybe he only knows how to make the specialty cocktails on the menu. The bartender was also aloof and not friendly at all. Has he never seen Cheers? They also have bar food after 10 pm. I can’t remember what was on the menu but I ordered just regular fries and they were okay. FYI. My drinks were 10 and 13 dollars respectively. For that amount of money, I expect a decent drink but alas, I was left disappointed.

Just guessing that this place is not for the locals. It feels more like they’re armed and ready for hotel guests and not sure if that will be a lot or a few. As a hotel guest, may I just say that I’m glad it was a very open haven for us? We needed to kill some time while our room was being cleaned on a Saturday afternoon, so what’s a couple to do? Of course! Head to the bar area for a drink after spending some time in the comfy lobby reading and sipping on lemon water that is supplied(but not replenished… our sips were just that… small sips we eeked out of the containers in the lobby). Inquired of any happy hour specials. No. Note: cocktails are $ 13 here. I decided to go with an $ 8 Trinity Oaks glass of chardonnay instead. Husband went with a Stella. Not being really hungry, but wanting a little something to go with the drinks, we found a .99 appetizer! Seriously, they have chips and a nice dip for less than a dollar! Nice and good! So, not only did we have a cozy place to have a drink, but we enjoyed a nice snack for almost nothing.(note, a similar snack at a bar in Chapel Hill, NC cost us four times that). Service was aloof, but fine. We were certainly the only ones at the time, so have no idea what would happen if they were busy. The menu had lots of good-looking items, which I would have liked trying if we had stayed longer.

over priced… but what you expect from a hotel bar. Tried to do a happy hour there when it opened after double checking to insure they were open, showed up and it was closed for a photo shoot to announce the opening at happy hour time… left a comment card and received no call back… Plenty of other places close by to spend your money… so my HH list of 700 people on expense accounts will go somewhere else every week. Yes I have been doing this every week for 3 ½ years… bad move on the Mixx its a miss.

miXX is the lobby bar inside the Marriott Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel. It’s got a cool vibe, a decent selection of beers and food. I sampled an ice cold bottle of the Loose Cannon Hop3IPA from Clipper City Brewing Co., Baltimore, MD: A good IPA — not quite as hoppy and strong as I would like — but still good. I’d order it again!
