Park Crest

Go fill out a card with all your information. Go look at apartment. Go home because your dog is not allowed to live here in this «pet-​friendly» apartment.
Know that they have breed restrictions before you think about looking.

I’ve lived in Park Crest (Glover Park) apartments for approximately one year now. Overall, it’s the better deal I’ve been able to find in DC for what you get.
Local management has been helpful if I’ve needed them to answer questions or clarify activity. Paying your rent online is convenient, especially since I travel often and am not always around to go to the lease office (although you do have to pay a convenience fee).
Grounds are kept nice by staff, and maintenance in my building is kept up as necessary. These are old buildings and with the charm comes some unique, yet small problems you won’t find in the newer buildings popping up along 14^th St. NW, for example. The small size of the buildings gives a more neighborhood feel and you don’t feel like you’re living in a posh, overpriced hotel.
As someone mentioned, parking can be an issue if you return late at night and would prefer to park right in front of your building. Also, if you do not have a registered vehicle you will encounter some parking problems. Laundry facilities are kept clean and tidy. I’ve had to request maintenance on machines twice in the last year I’ve been here and the service company comes the next business day.
People are friendly, but private out here. Many strollers and many more dogs going up and down the street. There’s a lot of activity in the Spring, Summer, and Fall around Glover Park and being so close, yet somewhat removed from the center city feel is my preference.
Furthermore, you’re within walking distance of Glover Park restaurants and wine bars, Whole Foods, Starbucks, ACE Hardware, a post office, FedEx/Kinko’s, dry cleaners, etc. Really everything you might need can be found in one of Glover Park’s stores.

Glover Park is a great and safe area and the one bedroom apartments are huge (which is why I have stayed for 3 years), but the building is old and has issues with mice in the winter and bugs in the summer. The office/​leasing staff let themselves into your apartment unannounced and your «notice» tends to come after the fact, even with repeated requests otherwise. There is someone in the 4120 Edmunds St building with an electric guitar and a passion to practice most nights of the week. My apartment (middle floor) has flooded three times in the past year leaving standing water in my kitchen and twice in my bathroom. This resulted in the ceilings being torn out and replaced and two days without access to my bathroom (no discount on my rent). No explanation was ever given for the «rain» coming from my ceiling. If you have too many electric sockets in use the power will go out in the kitchen and living room and maintenance has to be called to flip the switch since it is located in the basement and not in each apartment. Also, if the person living above you doesn’t have carpeted floors you can hear their movements pretty loudly. Utilities are included which is great since they turn on the heat in the building way too early and you do not have access to turn your radiators down so A/​C is needed most of the year. I have lived in the apartment for three years, mainly for the closet space, but the cons have started to outweigh and positive aspects of the place. Parking is a huge pain and you are going to be walking awhile if you return after 7 PM. Most tenants have dogs but few pick up after them outside so you need to watch where you step.

The 2 cons I found so far in this place are the parking and the laundry rooms!
Parking: It is sometimes so hard to find a street side parking especially if you coming home late. You might need to park a bit far from your appartment. Ps: I do not mind doing so in summer but I wonder how it would be during winter time! However, they do offer reserved parking spots for an additional $ 150.00 on your monthly rent.
Laundry Rooms are small and have 2 or 3 washing machines in each unit along with 2 dryers. Also, to recharge your laundry card you need to walk to a unit near the leasing office to add credit! This is not convenient at all!
