Park Place at Petworth Metro

Following my previous review a new building manager took over and began taking concrete steps to update the bicycle facilities in the building. This new approach is inline with the generally high quality if service at Park Place.

I am moving into this complex next month and cannot wait! Although I am really looking forward to my new apartment home, one of the property manager’s Chris, was very rude to me when I was visiting. He was on his phone almost the entire time I was visiting the property, and overall seemed very unenthused and disinterested in being friendly with me or welcoming me into my new home. I just hope that my interaction with Chris does not set the tone for sustained interactions for the duration of my lease. Because that would be very unpleasant and would surely negatively impact my experience in creating a sense of home at Park Place.

We moved here in July of 2014 and have been very happy living here.
Building: The building is fairly new and has excellent interiors. The rooftop is one of best in DC with excellent views. There are extra amenities like dry cleaning service at the reception and free trainer at the gym once a week that make living here so convenient and fun. The garage is nice with a bike locker room as well. All the neighbors I have met so far have been very friendly.
Location: It is located right above the Petworth/​Georgia Ave metro station so getting in and out is a breeze. The new safeway is just a block away which makes grocery shopping extremely convenient.
Staff: The staff is extremely responsive and friendly. They also host a lot of events during the year that make it feel like a community. Last thanksgiving, they personally cooked food for the residents.
Overall, I am a big fan and would extend my lease. #LiveWhereYouLove

In a city that continues to grow its all about location; Park Place has it right above a metro stop!
I had a large (750 sq ft) one bedroom apartment for $ 1800 which looked brand new! Parking was an additional $ 175 a month and there was a common area (HOA type) fee included in the lease. Overall considering the condition of competitor apartments in the Petworth area this was great value! While I had no direct maintenance issues the fire alarm went off several times during the middle of the night over 6 months due to burst sprinklers in the garage. The onsite gym, party room, roof top patio that stretches the block and décor make you feel like your living in the future. The concierge staff is what made living here a pleasure, but I moved across the street as I needed a bit bigger of an apartment!

I moved to this building after living at the Allegro in Columbia Heights (see my review of that nightmare) and couldn’t be happier. I finally found the perfect place for me in DC.
Pros:
— Brand new apartments! With lots of storage. Add in nice views, balconies, glazed concrete floors, and new appliances, and it’s lovely. I live facing the Cathedral and it’s always very quiet (with a killer view).
— Location. The metro is DOWNSTAIRS. There are lots of nice restaurants/​bars, with more opening every week, and everything else that I need is close by (especially with a new grocery store opening soon).
— Staff. They are fantastic. The front desk staff are the BEST (and on duty ²⁴⁄₇), the maintenance is super friendly and great (yay Jose), and the leasing office staff are all helpful (shout outs to Gina and Jewel especially). Every issue that I have had was resolved quickly.
— The residents are actual grownups! It’s not a giant Adult Dormitory Where Daddy Pays My Rent (a.k.a. PBRs and vomit in the elevators)! In addition to young people, you will also see families, older couples, people with pets (so many cute pets). And everyone is very friendly and nice, even if they are a little unsocial.
— The lobby looks like someone unfroze Walt Disney’s head and asked him what he thought 2014 would look like (spoiler: it’s a little Epcot-​esque). It’s like a futuristic spaceship, and I mean that in the nicest possible sense. They decorate well and comfortably (especially at Christmas), and people hang out down there to use the (very fast!) free wifi, which makes the building feel very social.
— Amenities. The rooftop is amazing, the gym is pretty well stocked, and the staff plans fun social events almost every month that I appreciate.
Cons (these are so nitpicky, I feel like such a yuppie):
— It’s more expensive than a group house or older apartment, sure. But I find that compared to similar stuff a few blocks south, the prices are superbly fair.
— The grills on the roof often are out of propane and/​or broken… although the staff will fix them quickly when alerted.
— Some of the materials (especially the carpets and some of the cabinet finishes) aren’t of the best quality. However, again, given all the pros, it’s a minor complaint.
The bottom line is that I will stay at Park Place as long as I can — and that’s exactly why they have such a high occupancy rate. They offer a great place to live in a great location with solid, steady staff who care, and who make residents exceedingly happy.

Just wanted to update my review and let people know that when moving out, the apartment must be absolutely spotless or else they will charge you for anything they can. I would recommended hiring a cleaning company to clean your apartment before you move out or else you can have some outstanding charges.

I stayed at this place for a little over four years and for that alone this place would get four stars. To put it into perspective, I was there longer than all but one of the concierges and everyone in managements office.
2 months prior to move out date I received a letter saying rent was going up. Sure, that happens everywhere. I email management about how significant the markup was and ask if there was something that can be worked out. No answer. Couple days go by, no answer. I forward the email back and CC another leasing agent, 9 days later, no answer. Finally, I make it home in enough time to catch the leasing office before it closes and of course, no one got the email. Long story short, after being told there was nothing that could be done my unit was leased for approximately $ 400 less than what I was quoted.
On my last meet with management I re-​forward all of our email correspondence with back dated time stamp, cc’d regional manager, and got a pseudo-​apology from park place management. And for that, I added a star. Love the building but management needs some work.

This is a pretty great place to live. The concierges are all really helpful, and Mike is especially friendly!
Upsides:
The view from the rooftop is amazing and we have a party room with a lava lamp wall. It is really awesome.
There are also monthly events like a champaigne breakfast or Halloween party so that you can meet other young people from the building.
The walk home from the metro could not be shorter! You don’t even have to get wet if it’s raining.
Downsides:
The paint is really easy to scratch, and the walls seem very fragile for hanging things.
Unless you have a dog, it is sometimes hard to meet neighbors.

I’ve lived here since June, and it’s a great building. The design is unique: if someone time traveled from 1960 and ended up here, they’d say, «Ah, the future is exactly like I expected it would be.»
The rooftop terrace commands one of the best views in Washington; my own apartment has a fabulous view as well: I can see the Washington Monument, the National Cathedral, Fort Reno, and even Rosslyn, Virginia from my couch.
Most people in the building are young — a smattering of college kids, along with young professionals and a few families with small kids. It’s pet-​friendly, and management is flexible and generally responsive.
