Penn Ave Exxon

As much as I hate to own it, as a female, I’m
constantly fearful of getting ripped off when it comes to car repairs. I’ve been to Penn Ave Exxon for a number of perceived issues, some which were real and some of which required a cheap fix. Regardless of the issue, they were affordable and even matched a quote I received elsewhere. They are communicative and kind, showing my dog who I often bring with me a lot of love. So happy to have them in the neighborhood. Highly recommended!

After moving to DC last year, I had no clue where to take my car for repairs. I live not too far from Penn Exxon and decided to try them out and glad I did! Mo and his team have been awesome and so helpful. After my car stalled one night in Alexandria, I had it towed to Penn Exxon and their team was able to have it running the next morning. I thought it was the alternator but they were able to figure out it was something simple and it was fixed in no time. My car has been running fine ever since. As a female, I never feel like they are trying to get over on me with unnecessary or costly repairs. I will continue to go to Penn Exxon for all my car repairs no matter big or small!

I had work done here recently (clutch replacement) and received great service. Very fair with options and got it done within my required schedule, considering how busy they were. Last night I went in for tire air, and the proprietor helped me find a slow leak in one tire and plugged it on the spot in 5 minutes. Great guy, nice garage.

Can someone explain to me how is it that I see all these 5 stars reviews and I receive a 2 stars service? The question is… are these reviews legit? My experience at the Historic Pennsylvania Ave Exxon begins with my visit at the station earlier on 9÷29÷2015 spoke to the owner ‘mo’ explain the problem with my 2000 GMC Jimmy (SUV) if I don’t drive for 2 days… The SUV won’t start normal it takes up to 12 times for the vehicle to turn over. I return later left the vehicle with the manager for a diagnosis. I told him to let it sit for 2 days. Did not receive a work order. Two days later I discovered they did nothing to it. ‘Mo’ admit to me that they got busy and my car was not attended to. I was very upset. Yes, the owner apologize. when I arrive I let him know how I felt as a first time customer. I told him I will be doing an online review. He (‘mo’) got upset. I wasn’t going to argue with him. I spent 72 minutes trying to get my car started to drive it off his station. not one time he show any concern that I was trying to get the car started. I went back in and told him thanks. I need a tow truck. He offered me a tow on the condition I don’t do an online review. 42 minutes later the tow truck arrived. that whole weekend was ruin… my SUV now needs a jump on top of the other problem. When I see a Exxon station it reminds me of my experience At the historic Pennsylvania Avenue Exxon.

This is, by far, THE BEST mechanic I have dealt with in the Washington, DC metro area. I’ve lived in DC for ten years and it is nice to have a mechanic who is literally located around the corner and I have now become friends with. I remembered my name after the first time I met him which I really appreciated, helping me to feel acknowledged and known.
I’ve had a few things fixed on my 99 Toyota Camry here and everything has turned out well. They quickly assess the issue, sometimes have let me know on the spot, and more importantly work to get the price as low as possible for me.
The last repair I had done involved the cylinders. When I left, I noticed something was still faulty; I brought it back and they immediately prioritized it and didn’t charge me any extra which I greatly appreciate.
I’m so happy to have found a neighborhood mechanic who I enjoy stopping by to say hello to!

Not sure where all the good reviews for this place came from… I brought my car in for a simple oil change/​maintenance and ended up being charged $ 385 for I don’t even know what. One charge was for $ 54 for «cabin air filters,» which I know is a rip-​off. In addition, since I got the car back, the brakes now squeak. And perhaps the worst part: they failed to notice that my battery had completely corroded… so much so that a month later, the corrosion had eaten through the cables and power lines. I would take it back to try and address some of this, but frankly, I’m worried they’ll just do damage if I do.

I came in after another unfriendly shop told me I was mistaken about the slow leak in my tire. Fast forward to the next day and the tire is low again… must be my imagination… and now I’m late for work! I took it to Mo and he spent the extra time to find to the leak (between the rim and the tire). On top of that, it was a great price. I’ll definitely be back… and I sent a coworker there for something THAT DAY! Thanks such much, Mo! You rock!

These guys always square me away before work and get me back out on the road. I have a relatively new truck so it’s only been oil changes and a couple of tires but they are quick and the prices are fair. Can’t say much on the gas prices cause that’s not under their control but the shop is squared away.

Where do I begin! It’s so difficult to find a good auto mechanic shop — so when you find a great one it’s like you’ve hit the jackpot.
Firstly, courtesy — all the staff including Mo the proprietor — are very courteous and explain exactly what is wrong and the solutions. They don’t over promise on timings or costs — they are realistic and honest.
Service — very good work, I got a bunch of stuff done (almost $ 2000 worth in 2002 Acura) at once when I first went and I could feel the difference in my car. I have gone back for other minor issues and also oil changes and will keep going.
Their hours are also convenient and the location is clean and metro accessible which is a huge plus.
Would def recommend!

My trusty car, which had never had major engine issues in her 12 year life, overheated without warning on the 4^th of July. I got her to the shop first thing after the holiday, and they were very thorough and straightforward about the necessary repairs. They also recommended that I replace the timing belt (which was still the original)…although some might have taken that as an unnecessary up-​sell, I was actually very grateful that they brought it to my attention given the age of the part, and I bit the bullet in anticipation of avoiding worse problems in the future.
The repairs themselves took only a day, and they took extra care to ensure that everything was running smoothly before returning my keys. I’m happy to report that I have since taken the car to NC and back during a heat advisory and had absolutely no problems.
Very happy that I’ve found a reputable, reliable shop so nearby!

Mo and the Staff are very pleasant. Penn Exxon is exactly what this neighborhood needs. Very honest group of guys. Highly recomend them.

Needed to get my car’s battery charged. Not a big deal, right? It is on Capitol Hill, on a Saturday. These folks could not have been more helpful. It was quick and friendly and dependable.

We live around the block and these guys are the best. They filled up our football with air on the way to our tailgate. Not easy to be awesome as a gas station but these guys are.

My car jammed up on me today, luckily on the same block as Penn Ave Exxon. My friend had used their services a while back so I figured I would give it a shot. Mo listened to what was wrong, asked where my car was and immediately jumped into problem solving, which was great. Within 30 minutes my car was running again. Mo’s knowledge of cars, the skillset of his technicians, his customer service and professionalism were outstanding.
I will definitely go back for any issues I have with my car and would recommend it to anyone else. A rare find in the city.

I stumbled upon this service station and have been pleasantly surprised! !!! They are top notch and their prices are reasonable. I have a Lexus RX 350 and was skeptical to have anyone other than the dealer work on it but now they are my repair shop of choice. 5 stars!!! Ask for Moe!!!

I always hate going to the mechanic because, like many others, I don’t know much about cars and I always feel like I’m getting ripped off. I took my car to a local shop in my neighborhood and they quoted me $ 450 for new brake pads, rotors, and tire rotation. I wanted a second opinion so I found Penn Avenue Exxon and called to get an appointment and quick estimate. When I arrived Mo, the owner, introduced him self and asked what was going on. Not only did he say they’d take care of it but he’d walk me through every step and show me the parts. After inspecting the brake pads they discovered the pads had half their life left, another 10,000 miles! He told me that I didn’t need break pads or rotors. Amazing! They rotated my tires, did a quick adjustment and was on my way for less than $ 100 in less than one hour. Car is running great! Wow! This will be my mechanic for the rest of the time I’m here. Kind, honest, and reliable! Thank you, Mo and the rest of his staff!

Mo took great care of me quickly. Plugged a slow leak in a tire for me in less time than I spent waiting around at a place down the street.
I’ll definitely take our cars back to them without reservation. Glad to have them in the neighborhood!

Ron and Mo are really great guys! They were very friendly and hospitable as I waited for a tricky tail light to be replaced. I don’t usually expect a very friendly or honest experience with mechanics (I’ve had some bad experiences), but I was pleasantly surprised. Prices were good too. I would definitely recommend them and go back again.

Ron and his guys are the best! They are kind, honest, and skilled. I have run the gambit of problems with my car and they have been so helpful with every issue I’ve faced. Service is quick and reliable. Prices are very reasonable. They have even stayed late for me when I had engine trouble. Ron is friendly and generous and runs a great shop! Definitely recommend.

Ron & his team are the reason my guy & I have written off our respective dealerships permanently (Ford & Volvo). One car is still under warranty but Ford has so screwed up repairs & maintenance that we’d rather pay to know things are being done & done right. We’re very glad to live so nearby that we’re able to walk to the station if need be for pickups/​drop offs.
