Jill was amazing! So funny and accommodating! Definitely recommend any of the specialty cocktails!

Allergy friendly! It can be a tough restaurant world out there for someone with multiple food allergies but Pennsylvania 6 makes it easy! They are extremely accommodating! I have gone for brunch, dinner and happy hour and they always go out of their way to treat me well. They have a great wine list to boot!

Scallops with grapefruit & shiitake mushrooms .da bomb! Fresh & perfect. Brussels sprouts were just ok. This place is a little pricey, but totally worth it. Atmosphere is what I’d call business casual. Great fresh seafood. Coming back for $ 1 happy hour oysters!

We had a show to catch at the 9:30 Club across town and we decided to knock off one of my Unilocal Bookmarks — boy are we glad we did, Pennsylvania 6 is one of my new favorite restaurants! We came on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately in an elegantly decorated dining room. Actually, that’s an understatement, it was IMMACULATE! We were the only couple there and were serviced immediately by our smartly dressed waiter, who was both courteous and efficient! He recommended the lemonade(which we couldn’t get enough of!) and had the broccolini as an appetizer. If your into broccoli cheddar soup I would highly recommend the broccolini, it’s like a thicker version and was served with fresh bread. It was amazing and hot, definitely a winner! I ordered the Kale and Sweet Potato Salad while the man ordered a Lobster Roll with duck fat fries. My salad was delicious and fresh, you know it’s a good salad when the ingredients SOUND like they shouldn’t work together but they go excellently together! It was delicious! My boyfriends lobster roll was delicious and filling, the fries a nice change from the regular fries and burger combo — it was a winner. They also were kind enough to bring more bread for our broccolini when we ran out and still had some dip left — something I’ve never seen a restaurant do before. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised and can’t wait to come again!

This restaurant made me happy. It’s truly places like this that continue to bolster our beautiful city as a growing food town. The entire experience was exquisite and included some of the best seafood I’ve ever had. The place is pricey(around 100/person including a couple cocktails, appetizers and dessert), so don’t come expecting an average ticket price. But, you won’t leave feeling like you over paid because everything was top notch. First off, the service was wonderful. Everyone down to the busboy asked us how we were doing. You don’t see that that often, especially in DC. We were even greeted by who I am assuming was either the owner or a general manager. They were really attentive to a great experience. Now, the food. The word«wow» and«amazing» actually don’t do it justice so I’ll do my best describe it here: Appetizers: Crab Croquettes: These basically tasted just like a rolled up crab cake. But it was awesome nonetheless! Yellowfin Tuna Tartar: Hands down the best Tuna tartar I’ve ever had. I think the mango relish set this one off the charts. Definitely get this one when thinking of an appetizer. Crudo Sampler: Imagine a sampler of sushi without the rice or the roll. It came with kona kampachi(tbh I have no idea what this is but it tastes awesome), black kingfish, and yellowfin tuna. This was a very light sampler perfect for two. It was incredible and is the perfect way to experience a taste if the raw bar Main course — we shared: The Lobster Roll with Duck Fat Fried Fries: Again, one of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever had. What hit this dish home was the perfectly buttered and grilled bun. It balanced out the slightly too creamy but amazing lobster mix. The duck fat fries had a unique flavor which paired nicely too. Pan Seared Halibut: A lot of times pan seared fish comes too oily or heavily fried. This particular dish did none of that. The dish was cooked to really bring out the flavor of the meaty white fish. It was awesome and again one of the best prepared halibut dishes I’ve had. Dessert: Finally, we enjoyed the bread pudding. It lived up to the rest of the experience and was a perfect way to top off the evening. Don’t sleep on this place people. If you’re a seafood lover, you gotta try this place out!

The reviews are on point. I called around 6:15pm to make reservations for 12 people at 7pm(by the time we got there, our group had dwindled to 7 people). I thought it was a long shot but they accommodated us! Their space planner did a great job with the floor plan and dining set up so they can transform space to seat 2 people or much larger groups. Aside from the positive reviews, I liked that the menu offered both traditional and seafood options so it could satisfy the diverse palette of our group. I ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer and they were perfectly breaded… just enough to call them fried but not overwhelming with batter. Our table’s order ranged from burgers to pork chop with a fancy sweet potato purée and roasted Brussel sprouts… and my choice of lobster roll with duck fat fries. OHEMGEE. PERFECTION. The bread was nicely toasted, and just thick enough to hold the abundance of lobster(very light mayo, no frills) and never fell apart. It magically stayed intact until my last bite! Seriously, they didn’t skimp on the lobster. Lobster chunks fell onto my plate with every bite and NOT because the bread fell apart… it was that much lobster meat! The duck fat fries were as delicious as they sound. My only regret is that I didn’t take a picture of my meal… and I ALWAYS take pictures of my food! Everybody was pleased with their food and are every last bite. Two ordered dessert but since I was still savoring every last bite of my lobster roll, I can’t give a review. I will say they ate it all and certainly didn’t complain! Finally, I have to review their customer service. EXCELLENT. The BEST I’ve ever experienced in DC(and I travel here at least 3x per year). And I’m not one to review customer service since I’ve been known to put up with crappy service as long as the food is good. First, Pearson Keyes(the GM) came to our table to say hello. Since I was the one in our group to suggest the restaurant, he gave me a free drink of my choice on the house! He was friendly, inviting, and funny! Our server, Olesea, was very attentive(but not overbearing) and took the time to answer questions about the menu, recommendations, and accommodated swaps of some side items. Even the guy who filled our water glass was attentive and refilled our glasses without being disruptive. I know this is a looong review, but I wanted to be thorough so you don’t second guess making this your dining choice. ¡Buen Provecho!

Incredible food and impeccable service. I created an account on Unilocal solely to review this restaurant, which should tell you everything you need to know right there. Everything, from the service to drinks to the food, was perfectly done. We are strongly considering this spot for an upcoming graduation event, we enjoyed it that much! For starters, the dining room here is stunning –skillfully designed to provide ample lighting and noise control while allowing a sense of intimacy among guests. The restaurant has at its disposal a number of rooms perfect for events and parties(something we were interested in). Penn 6 also boasts an enviable Scotch and Whiskey list, and their cocktails seem to make use of that inventory. The glass wines are expertly curated by an awarded sommelier and are wonderful — especially given the affordable pricing. I had the Malbec and was quite happy with it. The service we received here was excellent. Our waitress, Casey, was both attentive and good natured, anticipating all of our needs before we thought to ask. As for the food, we had several appetizers, including the Spanish Charred Octopus, which was flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed the scallops for my entrée– a recommendation made by our server that did not disappoint. The bread and butter pudding my son ordered for dessert was heaven(and luckily big enough to share). All in all, I highly recommend!

A friend and I went to Pennsylvania 6 for their happy hour, and overall, it’s a very nice space with an upscale vibe and good oysters. Hadn’t really heard of this place before my friend mentioned, but we decided to go to the happy hour instead of brunch. This is a downtown spot, so I can’t imagine it would be very packed for brunch, but I don’t know. The space itself is very nice. A wraparound bar that is very large and plenty of room for people to stand up. Very good for after dinner drinks, which is I’m sure what they were going for. They have $ 1 Chesapeake oysters during happy hour, but no drink specials. The bartender said their drinks were«already low-priced» — but all the cocktails were $ 12. Perhaps I would drop that selling point… The oysters were very good. Quality oysters, and they have a bunch of other oysters that are not on special for $ 2.50 and $ 3.50. Service was very friendly. I think they make it a point here for the bartenders to get to know the customers, because people seem to know each other here. The bartender shook our hands and introduced us to other bartenders. Not a bad tactic to earn your customers downtown. Overall, Pennsylvania 6 is a good spot for happy hour, and the food I saw other people ordering looked good.

What a classy and fine establishment. I came here with a group of 7 for an end-of-the-year class dinner on a Friday evening. Our server, Christopher I believe, was extremely gracious and kind. He answered all our questions and served our large table very well. Our table shared the crab croquettes($ 16), which were very nice, light and not too starchy with plenty of crabmeat inside, but they only came with 4 pieces; a 5 meat & cheese platter($ 26) which had a great selection and the bread was very nice. I personally had the Monkfish Osso Buco($ 28) and it was cooked well, but a smaller piece of fish. Overall, I enjoyed the plate but I thought the fish could’ve been tastier. It seemed it was just pan fried nicely, but that’s all. Our table was very happy with our meals though and agreed that we would definitely come back! There was also this very fancy smaller inner room with paintings on the wall and a beautiful chandelier(I really wanted to go in). P. S. The Happy Hour oyster prices are for the bar only but damn at $ 1 per oyster. YUM.

If I had known that this was the same people as City Tap House then I definitely wouldn’t have eaten here. There’s nothing wrong with this and CTH as a bar, but the food is just list CTH in that it’s sub-par and way overpriced.

Pretty good after work dinner place. Nice atmosphere with a lot of people sitting at the bar. They have $ 1 oysters from 4 – 7, M-F. I’m not big on oysters, so didn’t try them this time, but maybe next time. Tried the beet salad. SOGOOD. Roasted beets with arugula and some type of vinaigrette and goat cheese. I could’ve used less dressing but that’s just me. The grilled octopus was also great with radishes. For the entrée, we split the monkfish which had mushrooms at the bottom. Nice and light fish — the sauce was very flavorful and went well drizzled on top. Will definitely return to try more. Service was quick and efficient.

Welcoming club type atmosphere. The back dining rooms are elegant and more formal while the front area near the bar is open and light and has large windows facing the park. Exceptional service and friendliness from all of the staff. I dropped in for lunch and highly recommend the strip steak sandwich. Most entrées are 20 and up so it is a mid to high range restaurant. They were very accommodating in swapping out sides or customizing options. I found this restaurant to be a very relaxing break between appointments for lunch. It would be a lovely spot for dinner or special occasion. There is no Wi-Fi but there are two TVs in the bar area one team to support someone to current news. A very nice experience overall!

I came here with a fellow coworker as we were looking for some grub after looking at cherry blossoms. It sort of bloomed when I was there, but hey I can’t have anything. I did however try out Pennsylvania 6 though. My thoughts? I liked it. I came here on a weeknight, and booked a reservation just in case even though it wasn’t needed. I would have to say that the prices were a little steep, but it’s DC and especially since the spot is in prime location downtown the prices make sense. The ambiance is well, like every other review says. It has a luxurious feel with a relaxed atmosphere. Does it mean that you have to dress up super nice? I mean, you can, but then again you could just go in work clothes and sit at the bar for happy hour. *Note that to get happy hour deals, you have to sit at the bar.* To start, we ordered their Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, since my coworker never had it before and was feeling adventurous, I had to oblige. It was tasty! I think It was probably better than the Lobster Roll that we both ordered(he never had a lobster roll as well). Supposedly their lobster roll was voted one of the best? Well I think 14th on top 50 in the nation? What did I think? I’ve had better, but it was pretty good. The tartare was on point though. Would I come back? Sure, maybe. I think I would try something else on their menu though. I did enjoy the vibe.

On lunch special value alone this joint gets 5 stars. For $ 10 you get half a sandwich and a salad or soup. AND they get you in and out in a half hour if you are in a rush. This was my first Penn 6 experience but I have heard lots of great things from friends so my expectations were set higher than normal. Not to worry, they lived up to the expectations. I arrived early for lunch and was promptly greeted at the bar by a waiter who told me about the amazing lunch value, arguably one of the best in DC! I got the pulled roasted chicken and the classic Caesar. The sandwich was outstanding. Mushrooms, kale, cheddar, and bacon. Did I mention bacon? Delicious. I will definitely be back. I wonder if they have a happy hour special that is anywhere near as good as the lunch special. If so, this may be a new regular spot thrown into the rotation. Give it a shot, at $ 10 for lunch, what do you have to lose?

Pennsylvania 6 is absolutely stunning. The space provides a very luxurious feel in a very relaxed atmosphere. The menu is approachable and takes some excellent risks. From steak to pasta, lamb to scallops, you really can’t go wrong here. My reserved table was ready for me upon arriving, which as sad as it may seem isn’t always the norm in DC. The servers were gracious and very welcoming without being overbearing. My water glass was never empty and I got a replacement beer immediately as I was finishing my first one without even being asked — thank you! The manager, Ryan, went around from table to table checking in to make sure everything was going well, which is a very nice gesture. I started with several oysters, which run at $ 3 for the three east coast varieties, and $ 3.50 for those from the west coast. I believe they are $ 1 during happy hour, which is unreal considering the area. I couldn’t make up my mind for a main course so I ordered two — oh darn… The scallops were outstanding. I couldn’t get enough of the curry sauce they were served with and the thinly sliced apples provided a crisp sweetness to compliment the curry. This would definitely be my recommendation for a seafood dish. I also ordered the lamb shoulder ragout had hits and misses. The lamb was pull apart tender and plentiful in the dish. The red sauce was also great and had a mild sweetness to it. Where the dish missed for me was the pasta. It seemed like an overlooked ingredient and really took away from the dish. Fresh pasta really would have made this dish a hit.

I’ve eaten at Pennsylvania 6 a couple times now and have had nothing but exemplary experiences. This is exactly the sort of «home run every time» restaurant DC needs more of. Food On my last visit, I enjoyed the following dishes: Foie Gras Mousse with apple cider gelee, red onion jam, pommery mustard– the mousse was wonderfully smooth and absolutely delicious. The red onions provided the perfect acidity to cut the decadently creamy mouse. Louisiana Fried Oysters with hot and sour sauce, herb aioli, lemon wedge– perfectly done fried oysters. Oysters were not dried out at all and you could tell they were super fresh. Scallops with black cardamom honey, puy lentils, apples, mustard greens, meyer lemon, curry– I was initially a little concerned that the curry and lentils would overpower the scallops, but I was pleased to find myself proven wrong. The scallops themselves were buttery and cooked perfectly Berkshire Pork Chop with sweet potato, candied pecans, fried brussels sprouts, bourbon lacquer– technically this was my boyfriend’s entrée, but it looked so good that I couldn’t help steal a bite(or four). Probably the best pork chop I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It was incredibly tender, with the crunchy topping providing a great contrasting texture Bread pudding with black currants, butterscotch sauce, milk chocolate gelato– I was about to burst by the time we got to desert, so to my dismay I could only eat a bite or two of this fantastic desert. It comes out in a small cast iron skillet, sizzling hot. The bread is sliced and arranged in such a way to maximize the buttery crispy edges, which encase a custardy, rich interior. Definitely could be shared as it was really large. Drinks The wine list at Pennsylvania is not too short, not too long, with a great selection of reasonably priced bottles. The sommelier is incredibly knowledgeable and seems to really care about how the wine can enhance and complement your dining experience. Service Service was great. Our waiter was personable and took their time to explain each item to us, while also offering his personal recommendations. They also switch out the silverware between the appetizer and entrees, a small touch that is always really appreciated. Ambiance Cozy, while still sophisticated. It seems like there are a couple different rooms, each with a slightly different«vibe.» The room where we were seated had large black and white photos of old school celebrities. Pennsylvania 6 has become one of my favorites and I’m already looking forward to my next meal there. It’s the only restaurant I’ve been to in DC where each and every thing I’ve tasted has been fantastic. I highly recommend you try it out!

A relatively new addition to the area and its a pretty cool spot. Great service, a pretty jazzy atmosphere, really good coffee, and an eclectic menu. If if wasn’t brunch, I totally would’ve given in to the desserts, which all sounded way too good… Bolivian chocolate terrine and spiced apple cake… till next time. I went with the burger(as I usually lean towards the lunch-end of brunch) and it was a solid choice. Medium was a bit more well-done than I would’ve liked but nevertheless, the smoked cheddar, onion, and«secret sauce»(on the creamier, richer side of sauces) combination worked well. The fries were crispy, seasoned, and awesome when dipped in the aioli that came with them. It’s a sizable meal and should be enough to fill you up, even towards the later-end of brunch.

Oysters anyone? I had the privilege of throwing an UYE here last night where we got to try various offerings from grilled octopus and tuna tar tar to east and west coast oysters galore along with peppers, escargot, Sardinian flatbread, and kona crudo. Did I mention champagne? There was that too. I had never tried escargot. One of my fellow dining companions was quite knowledgeable of the cuisine and I take his word when he says that it was well prepped and blended with the sauces. I actually really liked it even though the idea of eating snails does not appeal to me at first glance. The tuna tar tar was simply delectable, and probably some of the best I’ve ever had. This would fall under the category of things I’d never get tired of eating. Oysters are the prime reason of my entire visit here. We tried several different varieties of from both sides of the US and I feel was struck home with me were the ocean taste of the West coast. I didn’t try the peppers, kona crudo, and I wasn’t huge on the octopus. Octopus for me depends on the prep. It was good, but I wasn’t hugely interested in the texture. The kona crudo sounded fantastic and I’d have to try it another time. From the people who did take part seemed to enjoy it. The Sardinian flatbread was so flaky and delectable yet extremely simplistic. I could have ate 2 of those things, but after having everything else I was a capacity. Jules our server was wonderful. She was very happy to attend to us and generally had a sweet demeanor who enjoyes where she worked. She knows the dishes she’s serving like the back of her hand and didn’t hold back with providing us the info of each dish. Tyler the manager was very awesome. He gave us a thorough run down of the oyster selection. We valued his kindness and generosity of this visit. Gluten free? No problem. They offer an entire separate menu that can accommodate those needs. Space and ambiance are gorgeous and art deco stylish. I love art deco style and this fits right into the mold of a perfect night out for me. One thing I wish DC would hurry up on – get this place their permits so they can set up the patio! That is coming soon and I simply can’t wait for it to arrive.

I’m always ecstatic to find a place that meets ALL of my expectations… and at Penn 6 I hit paydirt! I attended a Unilocal event where they pulled out all the stops. This was not only extended to our party; I noticed that every patron of the restaurant received the same treatment! This scored MAJOR points with me. Now on to the real reason you’re here… how was the food, you ask? AMAZEBALLS(yeah, I know, but seriously). They take great care in the selection of their oysters and offer both East Coast and West Coast variations. The manager, Tyler, was very knowledgeable – THISMANKNOWSHISBIVALVES– and took the time to educate our party on the differences between the types of oysters and why particular locations were selected for sourcing. On to the appetizers(in order of delectability, of course): –Grilled Octopus: DIVINITY! It provided the perfect amount of smoke(immediate summer bbq feels). –Tuna Tartare: This was a big hit at the table. Served with plantain chips and so delicious. — Grilled Peppers: I especially enjoyed these bc although they all appeared to be the same type of pepper, they offered varying levels of heat(yet still pretty mild in case you’re not a fan of spicy food). *Honorable Mention: Kona Crudo, Sardinian Flatbread Now for the drinks: This is where they completely secured high rank on my list of happy hour haunts. I am a scotch girl through and through, however I hate places with a pretentious selection of scotch and whisky(if you fancy a dram from time to time, then hopefully you know what I mean). Penn 6 is nothing like those places; it has all the staples: high end, low end, and even a couple i’ve never heard of before. Cocktails: Although I didn’t try any of them this go round, I did take time to peruse the list and they had some very interesting things going on. I was particularly intrigued by the«Treaty of Paris» which features elderflower & prosciutto! There’s word that they are soon expanding to include a patio area. Sunny brunch desires realized. Be sure to request Jules, the most hospitably adept waitress I’ve ever experienced in DC.

I have just switched jobs and am back in the DC Metro area! I must say this place was the best choice I could have made to welcome me back to the area. I did not know this place existed. In fact, I just learned that this place opened in November and it was a soft open. They are owned by the same owners as City tap house. I learned this after having the pleasure of chatting with one of the managers, Tyler. A very sociable manager that made sure our happy hour experience was as perfect as can be. Kudos to him! Another shout out goes to our bartender, Jennifer. She was very attentive without being intrusive on our conversation. This is a quality that is very hard to find. She chimed in when it was necessary and I never felt pushed in any way. The service can make or break a happy hour experience and my experience was top notch. The location is one block from McPherson Square metro so it is very accessible with subway and five guys to cater to the overly ambitious drinkers. The part that I love the most is the décor and atmosphere. You get the feel of prohibition Era eque speakeasy ambiance, but at the same time, a nice lounge and classic restaurant. I felt like this place hit the nice note between a speakeasy bar and an restaurant similar to the Old Ebbit Grill. Even walking in and looking around made me think that I should consider the place to hold a corporate event or a wedding reception as they have different rooms and different lighting. I did not take an extensive tour, but there were a lot of nice notes that I have noticed that really impressed me. I can also see this place as a romantic spot for a date with enough young professionals and mid aged professionals hanging out so it does not feel like you’re trying hard to impress someone. As for the food, I was only here for happy hour. I ordered a dozen oysters, Chesapeake wild oysters. I personally cannot tell the difference between these and ones from the northeast. I just became a pescatarian so I am a newbie. However, they were delicious and caught my attention. The best thing I ate today was the fries. You’re thinking that fries are fries or I do not know what I’m talking about. Hear me out. The fries are fresh cut fries. The part that makes them addicting is the white truffle aoili. The fries were gobbled up in an instant. As for the drinks, I had the oyster shooter. I also had the house malbec. The look is daring. An oyster at the bottom of a shot glass. However, it is worth a shot — no pun intended. I hardly noticed the oyster in terms of taste, but it was not overpowering. Thinking back, I think it went down smoothly. Overall, I had an amazing time here. I recommend trying this place out. The service is great and the food — as so far as I have tried — is delicious. I personally would like to try out the full menu when I am in the area again.
