Eh. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was tender with great flavor, and the slaw was fine, but the bread was mushy(and I ate the sandwich right outside of the truck). I could see it being a great sandwich with bread that holds up to the meat better. Others have commented on serving size. I thought the portions were fine. This is pretty heavy stuff they’re serving.

Pollo fritos was delicious with freshly baked bread and good bacon. The sandwiches are very big. Definitely one of the cleanest food trucks I’ve tried!

First time trying this truck out around me! There’s definitely a bit of uniqueness to the taste to get used to, but I like it.

Yummy sandwich options at Jose Andres’ food truck Pepe. I myself tried the fried chicken sandwich which had a nice spicy almost marinara-like sauce on it. I will definitely head back to try the cold chicken sandwich, the portabella sandwich or one of the other tasty sounding options. Also, the sandwich is very big — worth the price.

Not the José Andrés food truck experience I expected. It wasn’t bad. It also wasn’t a flavor bomb. I’ve a huge JA fan, frequent his restaurants often. I was so excited to see the food truck as I went in search of food for lunch. But… I ordered the pollo frito and the patatas bravas. Both are quite large in portion size. Therefore, you don’t need to order both. And, it was $ 18. So, a wee bit pricey for average flavor. Eh! Maybe the other items on the truck are more tasty. In the meantime, Happy Eating!

Spent $ 10 on the«burger» and got 4 tiny meatballs between a couple of breadsticks. Wasn’t remarkably tasty, and I was still hungry afterwards. Terrible concept.

4 stars. For a food truck, I am impressed. The sandwiches were way pricey but turns out they are humongous, high quality, and qualify as 2 meals if you get sides or have a moderate appetite. 5⁄5: The mushroom sandwich was so delicious I can’t stop thinking about it. The bread had this incredible, lightly fried/crispy texture yet wasn’t oily at all. I still don’t get it but it was unique. The plump portobello mushrooms seamlessly blended with the cheese and fresh pesto spread. Simply ONPOINT. It wasn’t the classic Italian flavors while sounding like it might be. There’s a twist of Spanish ingredients in there to make it just different enough. 3⁄5: The chicken sandwich was breaded but dry and tough to chew. However, the sauce and cheese it came with was quite unique and tasty. Not your typical chicken parm flavor profile. Bread was good quality too but not as texturally interesting as the mushroom sandwich. Employees were really polite. Glad I tried it but this is a splurge kind of lunch for once in awhile. I’d happily relive that mushroom sandwich any day of the week though!

We found this truck parked at the Nationals game and immediately knew we were eating it for dinner. Chad got a chicken sandwich and I opted for the vegetarian offering. His was out of this world! The flavors were amazing and it was wrapped for easy consuming. Mine was tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. They used a different bread and sliced it so it was not as easy to eat in a wrapper. It made a bit of a difference walking around the crowds with that instead of the easy to consume wrapper that the other sandwiches came in. This chef is well known in the area and I was glad to be able to check out one of his concepts without putting much effort into it. Next time I would love to try his newest venture, the veggie place where the focus is on fresh veggie bowls.

Pepe is one of the pricier food trucks that occasionally goes to Franklin Square and draws a line of people there due to Jose Andres’ name recognition. They serve mostly sandwiches and small bites. The service is friendly and efficient, with about 2 people in the truck doing prep, one person taking orders, and one working on the logistics of keeping the sandwich prep efficient and accurate. I ordered the Spanish pulled pork and the fried potatoes, which proved to be a very filling lunch. Pepe does not skimp on its serving size, and the food is very hearty and flavorful. I’d definitely like to try some of its other lunch options the next time it rolls by.

The best sandwiches you will ever have in your life. We had the Pollo Frito and the Elena portobello at Nationals Park tonight and both were delicious, flavorful, and memorable. Don’t ever pass this place up!

Does not live up to the hype. It’s Jose Andres for goodness sake! I was expecting more creativity for the price. I had the jamon serrano y queso manchego. It was good, but really, when will jamon serrano and cheese on a baguette NOT be good? It was nothing special. The baguette was really thin, I don’t feel like it was worth the $ 12.

Amaaaazing! I think this is my favorite food truck in Farragut. It’s Jose Andres’ and they have amazing sandwiches. I’ve tried the morcilla(blood sausage) with egg, their flan, and a bite of their futbol club! The club is really clean tasting and isn’t too heavy. The Morcilla reminds me of Korean soondae, with a twist. The fig jam definitely adds some sweetness. The worker(agh I should get her name) recommended I add an egg, and I did not regret it, despite the dripping of yolk… But that just proves that they know how to cook an egg right! The flan was amaaaazing. The cream was really interesting, and added a nice texture to the flan itself. They also add a few slices of orange which cut through the sweetness with its acidity, which is a nice touch. The people who work on this truck are super kind and remember you!(: Makes you feel welcome and loved! I wish they were at Farragut more often!

Love this food truck! The staff is so friendly and the sandwiches are always fresh and delicious! I recommend the Jamon Serrano y Queso Manchego or the Futbol Club Barcelona. One star off though because it’s quite pricey! …but worth it every once in awhile. :)

I had the pulled pork and it was delicious. Very meaty and filling. The bread was perfectly toasted and the slaw inside was pretty good as well. The staff was also nice and friendly. I took away a star because of the cost. $ 11 for a sandwich is a bit steep, especially because there are other places in the area for cheaper sandwiches. It was a very good sandwich but not as good or life changing as some reviews suggest.

Spanish ham and cheese on a fresh baguette, what could be more satisfying? The sandwich is write tasty and had a good blend of flavors making it quite easy to waft down. At $ 10, though, the price seems streep for what you get and does make the sandwich a bit more difficult to swallow. Pepes propertiors are fun and easy to joke with.

–The people working at the truck are always friendly. The person who takes my order is always super friendly and helpful when I’m deciding between two sandwiches. She’s the one who convinced me the futbol club was worth trying, and she was so so right.(probably my fav so far). The chef is also great. Although you’ll typically see a line for Pepe, once you order, the food actually doesn’t take too long to come out. Kudos to the chef –They started handing out loyalty cards recently(frequent customer card?), which I appreciate. I know a bunch of people in this area come out whenever Pepe is parked here, so I’m sure they were happy too. Only wish they had it sooner –The croquetas. For being fried, these were surprisingly not heavy. It was lightly breaded but the croquetas still had had a nice crunch, which gave way to the creamy filling. I appreciate the light breading so I can still get the nice crunch but enjoy the filling more than a heavy outside. Couldn’t finish them all since I had the pulled pork sandwich today, so I gave the rest to my manager who said they were great! Also as a consumer, it’s always great to know that our feedback is heard. I saw that Pepe was coming to Farragut today, so I didn’t pack lunch in order to pick up a delicious sandwich. When I ordered, the person taking my order recognized me(probably because I go practically every week). They thanked me for my review and for being a repeat customer with a few goodies! It was much appreciated. Again, sorry for the long review. But if you haven’t had lunch at Pepe yet, you are missing out! Writing this as I finish up my sandwich :)

PEPE! Yum. So excited that Pepe won the food truck lottery and will be at State Department on Mondays for the next month. It’s been a while since I visited Pepe, and I think this visit is the reason I’m perfectly comfortable rating 5 stars. The last time I visited Pepe, I ordered the Spanish Grilled cheese. It was absolutely delicious, but the sandwich was small and I’d wish I’d gotten a side. I will say that today I ordered the Spanish Pulled Pork and the portion size issue(with this sandwich, at least) is a thing of the past. This sandwich is pretty big(heavy, too!), and for the quality of the ingredients, I can’t complain that it costs $ 11. The bread is fresh and toasted, the pulled pork is tender and juicy and has a nice kick. If they’d had it, I would have ordered gazpacho to go with my sandwich, but they didn’t(and I’m now plenty stuffed, so that’s fine). Jose Andres definitely keeps up the quality at his food truck, I’m happy to say!

Pepe is serving up some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had ANYWHERE. I’ve tried two of their sandwiches so far — Spanish-style Pulled Pork Bocata and the Futbol Club Bocata. I also tried the Butternut Squash Soup. The pulled pork bocata is easily in my personal Top-3 sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. The pork was super tender and super flavorful with a great tangy kick. The slaw added a nice crunch and bread was just perfect. Everything worked together beautifully and hit on every single flavor note. The club bocata had thinly sliced chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and shallot mayonnaise. Though it sounds like your average club, it was far from average. It’s simple ingredients executed perfectly. The Butternut Squash soup had great flavor and a wonderfully silky texture. I could eat this soup any day of the week. Overall, the food is amazing and comes out quick. Pepe is one of the food trucks that I have, and will, go entirely out of my way for. So let us all bow our heads and give thanks to one of the world’s best chefs, Jose Andres, for giving DC such an awesome food truck. Amen.

Having tried their admittedly tasty jamón serrano y queso manchego and butifarra ‘burger’ at a cookbook promotion, I was eager to sample new flavors across the gloriously enticing menu. Having skimmed my fellow Unilocalers’ recommendations, I opted for the pollo frito over the pepito de iberico. With a cheat dinner in my near future, I also reluctantly passed on the temptation of Spanish grilled cheese with a gazpacho. I was impressed by the @pepefoodtruck pollo frito. I normally avoid fried chicken breast sandwiches since they either trend too dry or too greasy, but this was neither. The breast had been pounded thin, but still had moist interior that wasn’t tough. The crispy exterior wasn’t made soggy by the scant bed of lettuce. Bread was toasted to tolerable limits for a vessel so thin. The piparra peppers intermittently brought faint heat and a fresh crunch to many bites, but it was the robust brava sauce swirled with aioli that sealed the deal. I also tried some of my coworker’s escalivada. Roasted eggplant and red peppers dominated the sweet onions, spinach, and mojo rojo. Good flavors but I feel like the balance between bread and ingredients was better on my sandwich. Cute and friendly staff passing out free tapas coupons for Jaleo as a bonus. Since they found a spot in front of the aforementioned restaurant, their outdoor servers were bringing Pepe diners glasses of ice water. I was glad to make their debut Maryland week, and intend to try the pepito de ternera next go around.
