Found them at Union market and tried a macchiato… amazing. Will definitely be coming here again for my coffee cravings.

It’s not Stumptown, but it’s a very fine brew. Besides it’s the only coffee shop at Union Market, which makes it an obvious go-to for a post lunch latte.

Apparently, according to your staff(@peregrine espresso at Union Market DC11⁄29) I need to feel ashamed for bringing my own thermo, which happened to have some leftover tea seeds at the bottom, to be filled up with decaf coffee. While I am a coffee snob(who drinks decaf because my toddler keeps me awake, no matter what) and agree to pay high prices for high quality products such as your coffee, I am also a highly conscientious person: 1) I bring my own thermo because I reuse, recycle and reduce 2) I don’t want to use more time of your busy cashier, on a Saturday morning with a long customer line behind me, with an explanation of why I happened to discover some leftover seeds in my thermo right at the moment of me paying. I find it highly insulting to get the evil eye roll by your staff. I think we all need to start becoming more grateful for being fortunate enough to partake in an occasional indulgence; when lately, if we keep up-to-date on foreign affairs, many haven’t had the same privilege as we have here and now. Let’s not forget how lucky we are when we have a cup of coffee. Specially a cup of Peregrine coffee.

Best latte in the city is now available at Union Market. Since Union Market is non-compete, it’s the only coffee shop at Union Market. You can find this coffee stand when you walk in the doors farthest to the right when facing the market. There’s usually a line in the mornings, but Peregrine fully staffs itself so the line moves quickly. Staff take the art of coffee seriously so they make each cup with perfection. I always prefer my latte a tad sweet(Who am I kidding? I like it a lot sweet) and they provide simple syrup at the end of the stand(Which by the way, why would a coffee shop that sells iced lattes, NOT have simple syrup. Sugar cane never works well in cold drinks! I’m looking at you Compass Coffee on 8th St NW). Once you have your coffee in hand, go explore all the other shops at Union Market or grab a table inside(There’s free, strong wifi throughout the market) or enjoy DC’s fine weather at one of the tables outside.

I had a business meeting here recently. I honestly hadn’t even been to Union Market, let alone Peregrine Espresso. I was impressed with this modern marketplace situated on the edge of a transitional neighborhood & Gallaudet. The staff here are super friendly, service is fast, and my freshly-brewed iced green tea was refreshing on a steamy day. I’m only leaving it at 3 stars as I didn’t yet try any of their other offerings, but I certainly recommend you try them before I get back(which I fully intend to do)!

Imma’ lay down the coffee law, because I’ve been hunting for a honest-to-goodness at-least-with-foam decent cappucino in DC, and you would think that the most hipster-looking place I’ve found so far would get it right. You guessed it: they didn’t. I went early in the morning, shortly after they opened, and I ordered my apparent latté with a chocolate croissant. They have a broad selection of coffee brands from distinct places around the world, which does motivate me to come back and try them(though I question their«Fair trade» advertising). To be quite honest, that chocolate croissant was stale from the day before. The taste and presentation were fantastic — bitter chocolate filling, buttery flavor with each bite of the croissant — but a stale baked good is a stale baked good wherever you go. I understand if it’s a lot of work to make them, but the least the shop could do is reheat or store them appropriately. The staff that day was two men dressed in casual plaid who, while they were attentive and efficient, did not seem to care much for their customers. It’s either that or I have different standards. I’d recommend coming at a different time, when food is fresh and maybe someone else is at the front. But if this is the best the shop has to offer all day, all I can say is that it’s only thriving because of the growing trend towards fair trade organic artisan coffee.

Coffee is solid but the service and attitude of one barista/cashier in particular is so bad that I can’t give this a rating above 1. We’ve gone here a lot and each time we order from this one woman, it’s always the same thing: «I’d like a pour over» «We have it on drip» «No, I’ll take the pour over» «Fine.(eyeroll)» Without fail, she goes out of her way to be extremely rude and condescending. If you don’t want to make the pour over, work somewhere else.

They sent me the cutest little postcard in the mail to welcome me to the neighborhood so I stopped by to check out this shop and was definitely impressed. Great latte and even better service. Thanks again, I’ll definitely be back :)

One of the best in USA!!! How dare you not to rate this place for five stars ! Don’t even bother come here If your don’t know what’s great coffee tastes liked. Servers are doing the job with passion. I was touched by the emotions involved with each cup of coffee they makes. Servers are stylish and cool. It’s a great place. You will regret you were wasted too much money in Starbucks and what else!

I’m sad to say that, while the coffee is decent, the service is inconsistent and definitely does not go above and beyond.(

Cyndy’s Bottom Line: Coffee for the caffeine only. Stopped by for a cup because of the Unilocal reviews and was surprised to find that the flavor of the coffee was burnt. Great if you like burnt coffee.

Peregrine is a great first stop if you’re visiting Union Market — they make a lovely cuppa coffee, with care, right before your very eyes — ok, yes, that sounds like a ballad to Peregrine, and it is. Take a «for here» mug, and stroll the market while you savor the aroma and taste of the freshly ground coffee beans, and the warmth of the mug in your hand. That’s about all there is — great coffee, made with care. So what if you have to wait another few minutes!

This place is AMAZING! i’m sad that it took me so long to try it out. On a rare work from home yet beautiful weather day, me and the husband went to union market to do some work outside. We ordered iced vanilla lattes and they were exceptional! The depth of espresso flavor in it was amazing. It was freshly ground and brewed, so took a little longer than your typical chain coffee houses. The vanilla added a perfect sweetness that wasn’t artificial. I normally go to union market on the weekend and during lunch. I’m only a morning coffee person, but now I have to be a Peregine Espresso any time coffee person!

Coffee is good. So good, I can chug it within minutes. Or maybe I was tired and needed a pick me up STAT! I ordered a cappucino. Boyfriend ordered the macchiato. Nice staff and they made our coffee just right and even with a cute cappucino design! You can order it to go or they will let you drink and walk around with their mugs, just return them when you’re done!

My body can handle poisons such as absinthe, moonshine, dairy and gluten on an almost daily basis but coffee? To quote Whitney Houston: «HELLTOTHENAW!» As a mobile worker, this is quite unfortunate since coffee houses are pretty much the only reason we see daylight/people in a regular work week. I was computerizing one chilly day in Union Market and in need of some liquid love. I had heard about and was curious about the wonders of Peregine Espresso but was not willing to risk an elevated heart rate and day sweats for their delicious sounding coffees. Luckily, I spotted that they had hot chocolate on the menu. Not expecting much(I’m used to the pathetic Swiss Miss like cocoas I’ve had at coffee shops in the past), I was pleasantly surprised to see my barista put as much care into my hot chocolate as he did to the other espresso drinks on the line. My hot chocolate was rich, creamy, easily drinkable, and the perfect temperature. It even had a cute little steamed milk swirl on top! This was the best«chocolat chaud» I’ve had since leaving France a few weeks ago. Thanks Peregine, you get five stars from me!

I visited Peregrine at Union Market to participate in «Espresso Fundamentals», a class that was advertised at their Capitol Hill location. This new location for Peregrine is really amazing! It’s an open air location that basically shares space with other restaurants and shops. The renovation on the buildings is stunning. The class was also amazing. As you might expect, i am really into coffee and have visited every shop in town before I noticed this course. I watch the baristas work. I am really into it. But this class opened my eyes and I strongly recommend it. They start with basics, teach you all about beans, roasting, their amazing grinders, and the espresso machine, itself. It’s an ambitious undertaking, but if you are willing to take a few things on faith, you can get through the information and get to the point of making the same drinks at a similar quality to the ones they sell in the shop! And depending on how good you are, you could easily be making those cool milk designs. I seriously want to take this class a second time. It was everything I expected and more!
