The food here is amazing. Chef Barry’s cuisine is a dream and I would highly recommend that you try the Saffron Linguine. The staff is excellent, very attentive and on point with your needs.

Cough cough, cough cough… sorry I was just hacking up the incredibly dry chicken I ordered from Pinea. Don’t worry though, if the $ 25 price tag for the driest chicken known to man bothers you it also comes with half a garlic in case you enjoy eating raw garlic cloves. The wagyu beef carpaccio was good but the incredibly expensive meat was totally overwhelmed by the cheese and arugula on the plate. I ordered a side of mashpotatos for $ 10 — I think it was about 3 table spoons worth and had no salt or pepper. Probably my biggest gripe of the entire evening was the $ 5.50 cokes. I don’t care if this is a Michelin 3 star restaurants(it isn’t — btw) — you do not charge over $ 5 for a small bottle of coke. It is just wrong. Overall, I’m glad I saw the beautiful interior of the restaurant, but otherwise this is a total pass.

Made reservations at the W for my girlfriends birthday weekend. We ate breakfast here both days we stayed because it was so good. The staff is super friendly and they are super attentive and give you anything and everything you need. Really awesome food and just an overall great experience.

I discovered this gem last year while traveling for business. Last week I had the opportunity to travel to DC again for business and made my reservations at the W Hotel because of this restaurant. The ambiance is cool and the artwork on the walls gives you something nice to look at when you’re not playing with your phone. The waiters were very attentive and polite. I had a lite dinner this time and ordered the Safron Lobster Linguine. It was delicious. .full of garlic and olive oil and of course safron. Could there have been more lobster? Sure, but it was the usual amount for this type of restaurant. I had one of their mixed drinks, I think it was called«Uncle Eddie», that was pretty damn tasty. I finished the dinner off with the Chocolate Pot de Crème… yummy. This place is not cheap, but comparible to NYC prices. Definitely will revisit next time I’m back in DC.

Great atmosphere and great views. My friend and I stumbled upon this place when the restaurant we were planning to go to had over an hour wait… We were really happy with the location. For appetizers, we split the proscuitto and burrata crostini and the burrata with pepper sauce– both of which were outstanding. I had the pork chop with a side of brussels sprouts, and I definitely regretted my choice a little. It was tasty, but very dry, and for $ 30 there should have been at least something other than one individual dried out fatty pork chop. Had it come with a side of anything green it would have been worth it, but definitely a poor, overpriced for the quality choice. My friend had the pasta with a giant meatball, and when I say giant, I mean imagine 2 restaurant sized burgers rolled into one meatball… huge! I tried a little bit of her dinner and it was pretty good. For dessert she had the fig tart, which I just didn’t care for because they left all the thick fig skin in the tart so it was like eating a pastry filled with something akin to the texture and feel of artichokes in it… not my favorite. I had the rice pudding with nutella ice cream– the ice cream was outstanding. The pudding was interesting, but very, very dry and thick– more like a dry bread pudding consistency than actual rice pudding. It was really overcooked so the rice absorbed all the moisture and it came out the consistency of a spongy rice cake of sorts– good flavor, just not executed well For drinks, I ordered their ‘Versailles’ which was supposed to be similar to a mojito– it was SO strong and definitely not made with vodka as advertised. It tasted like a really really strong caiphirinha, so if you enjoy those you’ll really like this. It was so strong I couldn’t finish so we both ordered their take on a Kir Royale made with dry cider and it was awesome. It was nice and crisp and refreshing, perfect for a cool fall night! The hostess was incredibly friendly and made sure she fit us in under the umbrellas because it looked like it might drizzle, and even moved tables herself just to make space for us when the two men working wouldn’t help her. She was very accommodating and friendly. The staff was very friendly, especially for being so busy.

Met my friend here for an event that they were having outside on the patio — Rock the Casbah. The event started at 6:30 and my friend got out of work at 5:30 and works around the corner so we headed over a little early. We started inside at the small bar area they have in the restaurant. The drinks were way overpriced and weak. Eventually they started letting people in to the event. By the time we got down there, we were JUST able to get seats at the bar — all of the other areas had already been taken. It was a little annoying since we had gotten there early for that reason. The drink and food specials for the event were pretty boring and not all that special. They actually have a nice patio area — but they were cooking food for the event outside in a tent and the smoke was blowing through the patio. It smelled like a barbecue. No one wants to leave a bar smelling like they were manning a grill all night.

Ended up coming here on accident with my Aunt and boyfriend before they were going to take a tour of the white house. We came here for n early breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place wasn’t packed so we were seated immediately. I really liked the décor of the inside of the restaurant and the seats were very comfy if I do say so myself! Their menu isn’t that extensive but it has pretty much all of the basic breakfast dishes. I ordered the two organic eggs with the potatoes and wheat toast. It was as yummy as those three items could be. I really liked the potatoes and the flavors. I would be interested to come back to this place to see how dinner is here and what the atmosphere is like. The service was quick and the food was good so can’t really complain!

I was staying at the W and decided to give this place a try. I had their saffron lobster linguine, and it was pretty good, but it was a very small portion and did not have much lobster. I’ll try their rooftop place next time.

Pinea has been one of those places I’ve meant to try for ages but only recently got around to finally doing so. It’s located within the W Hotel which I find a sophisticated venue on its own. My friend and I dined here for dinner and since the weather was nice, we sat outside along with what seemed to be everyone else who was dining there at the time. However, the restaurant does have a very nice dining room inside if outdoor dining isn’t your scene or weather isn’t permitting. As for food, I was debating between the risotto or the saffron linguini and the linguini won out. It was really nicely presented and consisted of linguini with lobster, saffron, and red peppers. The pasta was cooked correctly and it was very tasty. My friend had the grilled eggplant entrée which was stuffed with pine nut and raisin stuffing. It was good, but I was more partial to my entrée. Our dessert, the Tiramisu bread pudding was also enjoyable, though I think I could have gone with something lighter given my apparent carb loading. The service was okay, our server could have been a bit more attentive and we had to ask for a thing or two from other staff. However, the wait staff as a whole were all friendly and were also helpful in making menu suggestions. I’d definitely be back and would be eager to try some of the other entrees and drinks. OpenTable also indicates that valet parking at the hotel is included for restaurant patrons, but either the valets aren’t aware of that or that’s incorrect. I wasn’t about to argue but could have parked elsewhere for even across the street for less than 25 dollars.

This review is based solely on the complimentary breakfast received using a voucher for ‘platinum’ guests whatever that means.(Thanks Wesley for giving me your voucher) The food: I ordered the ‘breakfast americaine’(after taking 7 years of French I couldn’t not pronounce americaine the french way and make myself feel incredibly pretentious) — includes 2 eggs any way you want, breakfast potatoes, bacon or sausage, and toast(white, wheat, or 7-grain). Very simple, but definitely cooked & presented well. I appreciated the free orange or grapefruit juice(I had the grapefruit) and coffee(not that great). My friend had the orange juice, and while it tasted fresh squeezed, he said it was too sweet after a while. I can imagine this meal probably costing $ 15+ without the voucher, which I would definitely not pay. In that case, I would give the food 3.5 stars. But for **free** hotel breakfast, this is 5 star, easily. A couple of things bump my rating up to 4. + Located in the W hotel, the ambiance is most certainly bougy, but I much prefer the interior design of Pinea, with its airy, more rustic feel to that of the hotel lobby. + My friend and I were seated at a square table on adjacent sides, rather than across each other, which was a nice detail — it felt more intimate. + The chairs are incredibly comfy and soft, the kind you sink into when you sit down. I’m a sucker for squishy things + Great service & overall classy vibe

There was a nice ambience and my water was constantly filled, but that was the best part unfortunately. I ordered the lobster linguine and had to ask for a spoon, and my pasta was clumped together and the lobster overlooked. They accommodated a stroller and provided a highchair which was great. When we asked for the check there wasn’t a pen to sign either.

Terrible service! Waited 10 min b4 anyone came to take a drink order. They are wickedly overpriced! Only reason why they even got a star was because the $ 10 spinach(that was literally 2 bites) was good… Thumbs down

Not much of a vegetarian selection, but the pesto penne they made for us and the gnocchi Mac and cheese were worth the four stars. The location is ideal, and the ambiance is perfect. We sat outside near the fairy light lit tree and had a view of the treasury. Good service, and good liquor selection.

If for no other reason other than to brag about being able to see the amazing and incomparable Angela Lansbury on stage at the National Theatre, I’ll begin this little review with: So we were in back in town in DC with my aunt to see a play and felt a mite peckish before showtime. A lil lil bite of something pre theater was in order, and as Pinea, located in the W Hotel, is only about a block down the street from the National Theatre, we swooped in for some small plates, seeing that at 6:30 on a Saturday night, they certainly were not feeling any kind of dinner rush yet. «Merenda,» means little afternoon snacks, so the small plates in the menu section bearing that name is where we did all of our ordering. Based on our those shared bites, I’d be than happy to Pinea or more substantial Southen European Mediterranean influenced feastin’. Here’s what we ordered and enjoyed so well: On the fresh and light side of things, our first small plate was Fluke Crudo with oro blanco grapefruit, preserved lemon, and olive oil. Lovely. Super freshy fish. We all enjoyed the Pinea Salad as well. It came to us as a stack of layered bibb lettuce, radicchio, radish, and toasty hazelnuts all lightly dressed with tarragon vinaigrette and bolstered with batons of ricotta salata. Simple, yet so tasty, in plain English, I’m stealin that salad to make at home. Why am I not putting more hazelnuts in salads?! I love a hazelnut, git in there. Now from the the more hearty, savory, salty and robusto side of our small plates ordering, we got all the way down with Pinea’s Daily Charcuterie board which consisted on this afternoon of excellent housemade pâté, soppressatta, salami, and creamy mortadella with pistachio, toasted bead, cornichon, grainy mustard, and a fruit chutney or sorts. Supplemented by Pinea’s tasty bread basket, we really stretched this sucka out. Good stuff up on this board. We all agreed that the Favorite lil dish of our visit, among all the goodness, was the Charred Octopus. I’m always happy about some perfectly cooked octopus with a touch of smoky char and so this dish served with delicious saffron saturated potatoes, and spiked with salty green olives and chorizo, and dressed with a sherry vinaigrette hit the damn spot. I wanna note that Pinea’s wine list is pretty great and quite extensive, though we stuck with our G&Ts this time around, which we enjoyed in this open and airy feeling high-ceilinged restaurant accented by a mural by celebrated street artist Gaia. You cat miss it– it’s a huge mural inspired by a sculpture of Cesar Augustus, who appears to be rockin a lemon necklace, and also features birds, and a bunch of other colorful craziness. Cool… Service was great, and as we mentioned that we had a show to catch, drinks and dishes were served without any dilly dallying. We left full and feelin good and ready to hang wit Angela Lansbury.

Food is awesome but the service needs a whole lotta work! I ordered a steak and lobster special with a salad. Who wants the salad coming out with the dinner??? They brought my salad with my dinner and the server said«oh I thought that’s how you wanted it to come». Really, who has to ask for the salad with the meal? I prefer to eat my dinner warm! It’s not just an isolated incident. We’ve gone there three nights in a row because we are staying at the W hotel. The food is great and we keep going back because it’s so convenient after a long day of walking the city and the chef is really good! But three nights in a row the server has messed something up on our order. Added a bottle of wine to the bill we didn’t order, forgot a side we ordered, didn’t bring bread before the meal and now brought the warm salad with my dinner. Sigh. I feel bad only giving it a 3 star because the food really is delicious but with the lack customer service I feel that’s all I can give the PInea at the W hotel. The good: great outdoor café seating wonderful food The bad: terrible waitstaff

This is the first time I’ve been here since they converted from the J&G Steakhouse. The space is nice with large windows on one side. Seating is comfortable. The food was very good. I had the tasting menu with salmon tartare(excellent), lobster and red pepper linguine(excellent), rack of lamb(okay), and a tiramisu bread pudding(excellent). The wine pairings were okay. Service was good, except the plates should be described when delivered. What’s that green smear, peas? Are those salmon roe? What’s the white sauce in the squiggle on the left side of the plate? Just dropping off the dish and saying«here’s your salmon tartar» really isn’t sufficient with a tasting menu.

My visit to Pinea was a pleasant one that set the stage for future return visits. A group of four friends and I checked out Pinea’s Restaurant Week offering, which was well done, offering a wide selection of entrées and desserts. The duck leg confit appetizer was perfect, well-seasoned without trying to hard and cooked just right. The orange gremolata gave it an interesting surge of unexpected flavor. It was a lamb night for me, so I also ordered the lamb murguez burger. I thought the cucumber yogurt and feta would be a strange combination, but it definitely worked. For dessert, I sampled a friend’s olive oil cake, which was pleasantly good. Only the faintest hint of olive oil, but not overdone – it doesn’t taste at all like you’re drinking a bottle of cold pressed. I ordered the crême brûlée myself, which I would pass on if I had to choose again, as it had a slightly strange topping that had a faint charred, almost burnt taste. The waiter wasn’t the most attentive but was not necessarily aloof. Out of all the Restaurant Week venues I visited, Pinea rises to the top of my list. I’ll be back!

I’ve been hitting up all the restaurants around Federal Triangle/Metro/Chinatown, and Pinea has been one of my favorites thus far. They’ve only been open for less than a week, but their beautiful space in the W Hotel is clean, classic, and inviting. The service was very attentive and friendly, they were knowledgeable of their menu, and confident in providing suggestions and information. I went for lunch and had their delicious messy lamb burger. The patty was tender and juicy, and I loved the combination of the cool tzatziki and spicy harissa, along with the neatly trimmed lettuce. The accompanying polenta fries were killer! The complimentary seeded lavash and olive tapenade provided for the table were delicious too. The tapenade was refreshingly tart and salty all at once and had a wonderful texture. Feeling utterly content and wanting to extend my lovely visit, I chose to order the zeppoli di San Giuseppi for dessert. The warm donut balls came drizzled with a subtle Meyer lemon curd and topped with brandied cherries. They could have used less sugar coating, but they were scrumptious nonetheless. I will definitely return to Pinea and possibly see what they have in store for a dinner visit!
