The hostess was very nice and let us sit out next to the windows. The food was very good and well presented. I would actually give an overall 3.5 because besides the hostess, the waiter was rude and didn’t seem to be happy.

I love sitting at the bar especially at the end all glass area you can look outside. Very romantic. The bartenders are very reserved a bit clicky. The happy hour menu is not the best very expensive and super super small actually tiny plates. Its well lite, clean and upscale and comtempaary. Bathroom are so hard to get you have to go through the hotel lobby then up the elevator. The bathroom are beautifully decorated.

I came for Sunday brunch around 1 pm, as I was intrigued by the selection of eggs Benedict. My lady and I made our choices and then were told: oops, we’re out of the fried chicken Benedict, how about the more expensive shrimp option. Fine. Then the waitress returned with more bad news: they’re now out of the shiitake mushrooms, how about some crummy bell mushrooms. They were also tapped out of waffles and doughnuts. These are the kind of hiccups that can be overcome with outstanding, courteous service. Strike three.

Husband & I were in DC for the weekend & ate here before venturing into the Spy Museum. He got the hamburger & I got the lamburger. YUM! Being pregnant, I had to have it well done, but I must say it was delicious. Flavorful meat, nice spicy aoli, pickled red onions were a tasty touch. Service was great, and it was nice to have the choice of still or sparkling water(on the house). Lovely venue, skylights, velvety booth cushions, nice décor. I would probably go back if we were in the area again. Cons — bathroom is in the hotel, through the lobby & up a flight of stairs. Took awhile to get there.

Tucked into the chic Hotel Monaco, Poste is worth the visit. Impeccable service. Delicious food. Highly recommend the Steak Frites and the Beef Burger with side of Truffle Frites. Kudos to the Chocolat Pot de Crème for dessert. Although the menu is heavily seafood-ladden, there are a few options for other choices.

I visited Poste for the first time during Restaurant Week and had a very nice lunch. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the service was very friendly. Some of the details were overlooked: our water glasses and bottle ran dry several times and some dishes were served without the appropriate utensils(this actually happened with the entrée and dessert), but overall our experience was a pleasant one. Everything was cooked well, and aside from a few quibbles(too much truffle oil on the fries, etc.), we were all pleased with our dishes. One word of warning: Poste follows the DC trend of an open dining space and kitchen so it can get very loud with a bare floor and exposed ceiling.

My experience is limited to a private function I attended. The point of contact(Jennifer) was so accommodating. Every detail was tended to and we all felt appreciated. It could not have gone smoother. Plan your next function here. Ask for Jennifer

It’s so crowded for happy hour, especially now that the weather is too cold to be outside. I can’t wait for it to get warmer. Their patio is such an amazing spot. I am not a fan of happy hour here during the winter.

Bottom Line: A nice spot for a meal or drink if you are looking for a hangout in Penn Quarter but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. Overall, Poste is a really cute restaurant that does a great job of subtly continuing the theme of the General Post Office building in which it resides. Poste is a Kimpton restaurant and is attached to the Hotel Monaco. Given that, it is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and night caps. In addition to being a place for hotel guests to grab breakfast, I can certainly see local business people and government employees dropping in here for a nice lunch or happy hour. The food was good, as was the service, but I wasn’t blown away by anything.

Excellent food, I was not disappointed. The venison melted in my mouth, and the salmon my husband got was perfect as well. This is a must eat if you are in Washington dc.

I came here with my friend B. and a few other girls for a Friday Winter Happy Hour at their outdoor lounge. The atmosphere was a bit disappointing. They had a few couches and seating arrangements set up as well as heat lamps to fight off the chill, but the lighting was rather gloomy, decorations were severely lacking and their outdoor bar was closed despite there being enough patrons. We got some bites to share and all of us ordered a few drinks each. I tried their Double Barrel cocktail since I felt like trying something with a whisky base, but it wasn’t that great since it felt pretty diluted. Disappointed again with watered down HH cocktails, my other drinks were a glass of sparkling wine and the house red(a Villa Vialade Rouge, I believe). The latter ended up being my favorite of all 3 drinks. For snacks, we opted for the Truffle Popcorn and the Sample Platter. The popcorn was actually great since they did not skim on the truffle oil, but the platter was a bit underwhelming since the major component were cheap chips and nuts. Overall, I still had a nice time because of my company, but I doubt that I will return here.

I went for a private event with a group of amazing goddesses and titans. The goddess that was organizing the event is a perfectionist therefore my experience was perfection! Service was on point, ambience ws warm and cozy for a week night evening. The food came as a family style. Mussels, salad, fusion tacos for appetizers. The main meal we had a steam fish that reminded me of my dads cooking, duck, chicken, truffle mac and cheese and much more. Food was warm and rich in flavor! Exactly like a family meal at home. Great job Poste!

We had a lovely meal at Poste on Saturday evening. Service and atmosphere terrific. I have an observation for those who don’t like«sweet dishes.» My husband and I like savory preparations. Though the menu is extensive, many of the entrees are sweetened with fruit, fruit glazes, butternut squash purée, honey, balsamic vinegar, etc., so we found it difficult to order. I had the lamb burger with yogurt cucumber sauce and my husband had the grilled octopus appetizer with the black eyed pea side dish. I was disappointed that we couldn’t find entrees to suit our palates. Maybe another season would be better for us. Both meals were very good.

Very good atmosphere and food. Went here for an office lunch and we were seated in a private area. I had the salmon, kale salad and gelato. Delicious! Several people in my party had the French onion soup(that comes with a surprise), crab cake sandwich, and the ham and cheese sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Thanks, Poste!

Poste is where it’s at! Luckily we were able to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night! We went before a show at Ford’s Theatre. We watched the bar quickly fill with happy hour and theatre goers. Poste was packed by the time we finished dinner, so I highly recommend a reservation if you don’t want to squeeze in at the bar. The menu had so many mouth watering options. I went with the salmon and was not disappointed. Also, let me add that the bread basket comes out with warm bread. After we ordered we received a special appetizer treat from the chef. The chef also sent out a little bite of desert. Both were outstanding. The service was great. Our waitress was very helpful, she gave us good advice about what to eat and even helped us select a good wine. Post is the spot if you’re looking for happy hour or a romantic date.

Pretty atmosphere and decent food, but their business practices are misleading and borderline shady. We visited for dinner before a show recently and we were hoping to be able to partake in their happy hour. We were informed by the manager himself(who came over to our table to personally tell us after we asked our waitress if we could order happy hour specials from our table) that we could not do so. We would have to go to the bar to get happy hour wine and beer. The price at the table was $ 15 per glass. The price at the bar was $ 5 during happy hour. What a ripoff. We ultimately got wine at the table. The way they advertise their pre-theater menu was also disappointing. On the website they had stated that for $ 39 per person, you get the choice of two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts. We thought that sounded like a fantastic deal and their website made it seem like you could choose any two of the various categories on their menu(super misleading), but when we actually asked about it, we were informed that we had very few choices and could only choose one of each of choices like a simple house salad and soup. Um, NOTHANKS! So misleading. We ultimately did not go with the pre-theater dinner and instead opted for the following: –Appetizer: truffle parmesan fries to share. These were actually quite tasty! In addition, I got the Tuna Tartare(Black garlic, red pepper, jicama, potato strings). This was delicious and probably my favorite thing I ate at Poste. My fiancé got the Crab Cake(asparagus, lemon, finger lime, petit salad, Louie sauce). He enjoyed his app as well. A bit pricy for apps, though. –Entrée: I got the Atlantic Salmon(Savoy cabbage, butternut squash, barley, fine herb, beurre rouge). This was tasty, but was really undercooked… My fiancé got the Grilled Ribeye(Twice baked potato, blue cheese, bacon, chimichurri sauce). He said it was too well-done for his taste. Even though the atmosphere was nice and our waitress was very friendly and efficient(as she knew we had a show to get to) and most of the food was good, I doubt I would return for a meal. I never appreciate misleading business practices. I would likely only visit if an organization I’m a part of was having a happy hour there. And even then, I’d think twice.

Popped in here on Saturday for an early lunch around 1130. They are convenient to the Portrait and Spy museums neither of which were the reason we were in the area this day. Plenty of room in their bright and spacious dining room. They have a windowed patio dining area as well that would be great on a sunny cold winter’s day but we were seated inside. Our server appeared instantly for our drink order as we reviewed their brunch menu. I wasn’t in a breakfast mode but my wife did find their Croque Madame which she ordered. I instead opted for the Chicken Paillard based upon the server’s suggestion. I was toying with getting their Cobb Salad as well. Our meals came out quickly and were hot and delicious. My chicken was basically a chicken great pounded flat and served with a salad on top. Reminded me a little of my all time fav chicken parm but without the breading and sauce. Ok maybe not that similar. My wife’s sandwich was great as well. We both had no trouble finishing our meals. Portions seemed just right. We would come back again. Prices were reasonable, service excellent and the food delicious.

I have only been to the outside courtyard– which I must say is quite lovely– so I’d be willing to up the star quantity after having a more well-round experience. I visited for the Wicked Garden Halloween party and it was interesting to say the least. I totally feel too old for these kinds of gatherings(although when I lamented to my mother in our weekly Sunday phone call she gave the typical motherly advice«you’re only as old as you feel») but due to the fact it’s adjacent to the Hotel Monaco, numerous hotel guests– clearly older than myself– came in to check it out so I felt(slightly) better about being there. The«specials» were $ 6.50 Stella and house wines, $ 6.50 prosecco, $ 8.50 Belvedere, and a couple specialty cocktails for $ 8.50. Those prices were only outside, which with the bar being four deep at all times, good luck with that. We did get a first round outside but fir the second I went inside and instead of $ 6.50, the wine and prosecco were $ 10– lesson learned. While I didn’t have any good, I did see sliders going out and while I didn’t taste them, physically these were the smallest sliders I have ever seen in my life. Literally one bite each– and not a big bite at that. I think they were $ 13. They looked good but not three bites for $ 13 good. There was a DJ, typical dance music. You could see people in their hotel rooms grooving– these two kids were pretty funny to watch. I would probably return to try food in the future– just not the munchkin sliders.

I used to love Poste, but the last couple of times I’ve gone, it’s been terribly disappointing. For example, I went for after dinner drinks over the weekend. Apparently, they were already closed when we showed up. But rather than simply tell us they were closed, the bartender served us. Then another staffer made everyone leave fifteen minutes later, including a couple who had just been served. So they were«open» until they got our money, but closed before we could actually drink our drinks. The bartender also told us it was fine to sit on the patio, but the guy who kicked us out said the patio was closed for the season and we were not supposed to be there. Politely turning guests away because they show up not realizing you close early is fine. Serving them and telling them it’s ok to sit outdoors but then acting like they’ve transgressed for doing just that is not. I’m done with Poste and won’t be back. The cocktails are good, but if you can’t drink actually them, what’s the point?

THISREVIEWONLYPERTAINSTOTHEBAR This was one of our favorite happy hour spots in the district. It is in a very centrally located part of the city and the court yard is perfect. However over the past year or two, the service has become unbearable. I will spare you the details but at our last and final visit, after waiting 45 minutes for cocktails(think 15 minutes for our order to be taken, 10 minutes before they informed us they were out of something, 20 minutes for the waiter to go and check on something…) we left empty handed. Sad.

Decent lunch spot. The charcuterie board was great and they had some good beers on tap as well. The Croque Madame was ok but it was REALLY oily. That killed it for me and made me not like it as much. The truffle fries were good and the table bread was fresh.

Came as a plus one for my husband’s summer associate kick off social gathering — open bars and rotating finger food. I devoted all my energy on sampling rather than socializing — tuna tartare, crab cakes, spring rolls, mushroom goat cheese crostini, truffles fries, shrimp cocktail. All the food was definitely made from top quality ingredients — tuna was extremely fresh, crab cake was loaded with authentic crab meat in every bite, the grilled mushroom and goat cheese mousse yum what not to love? Truffle fries — always thought they were overrated in other restaurants until I had Poste’s — I couldn’t stop my hand from reaching for more. Although I only sampled limited food items and for the most parts were pretty tasty — the price tag is just way high for the amount of food one would get, the taste didn’t convince me I need to pay double the norm either.

This place is good. The outdoor seating is nice and definetly provides good vibes. Great drinks and ok eats. The things I didn’t like maibly were the prices. Prices seemed a bit much but if you read my reviews than you know I don’t like small plates. $ 5 for a sandwhich… $ 13 for a couple slices of cold steak… $ 11 for truffle fries(admittedly were good but I don’t know why they were soggy). Poste is known for its signature cocktails. Which you can’t when you sit outside. So you must go inside to get them. Service is good. The bathroom is a maze to find but that’s not their fault. I could see me loving this place alot more if prices seemed more reasonable.

Is it possible I found my new favorite DC restaurant? I think it is! In town for the week, my coworkers and I stumbled upon Poste while strolling around downtown. They say DC is an insider town, so I’m sure glad I had an insider show me this cozy, chic little spot tucked away inside the Hotel Monaco. The ambiance is very cool and serene… it’s easy to feel like somebody here while enjoying a basil lemontini and taking in the warm May air on their fabulous patio. First, service is impeccable. Our waiter was extremely friendly and knew the menu like the back of his hand. Luckily for us, he made some killer food suggestions as well… Speaking of the menu, it was truly difficult to pick something. I mean everything sounded divine! After grappling between about 4 entrees, I decided on the crispy duck ravioli. This was honestly one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. The duck was extremely tender, and wrapped in a crispy crust served atop various veggies and a tangy ginger dressing. I didn’t want it to end… I was throughly depressed when I scarfed it down in about 2 minutes flat. My dining partners went with the eggplant, and the tuna tartar, which they both enjoyed as much as I did! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Poste. The food, service, and ambiance is pure class and the embodiment of what DC is all about. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area:)

The Valentines’s day tasting was AWESOME!!! Our Somme was excellent, if the waiter was less than perfect. The food was fantastic, and we loved the tasting menu structure. Having the ability to add a cheese course was nice, too. Finally, the truffle pasta was amazing. Really loved this place.
