This place had pretty good, run of the mill sub-like sandwiches last year when we visited the nations Capitol. My biggest complaint was the heat in the building.

Finding quality eats in DC Chinatown has always been a struggle for me, mostly because Chinatown has become a shell of itself, less quality eats surrounded by a revival of tourist shops and nightlife venues. So instead of punishing myself with watered down Chinese food, I find myself here at Potbelly, usually feening for a mean sandwich and artery clogging shake. Potbelly is gaining some traction in New York, but it was here in DC where I first learned of this little chain. I can always depend on this location for it’s fast service, clean bathrooms, room to eat, and keeping the line moving. In a way it reminds me of a Quiznos, but with more of a Starbucks vibe than a dated pizza joint vibe(my bad Quiznos). And for what it’s worth, Potbelly is cheaper and quite possibly tastier. I have a series of goto sandwiches here, all of which take their turns getting consumed depending on my mood. The Italian, a meatfest of capicola, mortadella, pepperoni, salami, and provolone cheese is a hearty sammy perfect for an empty stomach. Another favorite is the smoked ham classic, with slim slices of ham with generous coating of swiss cheese, best enjoyed toasted for a crunch texture. But my money combo is the Wreck: a lethal combination of roast beef, ham, salami, and turkey slapped with slices of swiss cheese as a pseudo poor substitute for the Bomb at Sal, Kris, & Charlies( ) in NYC. It’s also worth noting that I’m often here whenever I’m waiting for the buses back to New York. Eating at Potbelly’s is the easy quick solution for a meal before hitting the road without sacrificing time. Buy a nice sized sandwich, swallow it all down with a vanilla shake or an oreo shake, and you’ve got a perfect food coma for the 4 hour ride back home.
