Project 4 Gallery

I heard about Project 4 from the Post website and I went there to check out their Nothing Rhymes With Orange exhibition. I went by myself and I didn’t know what to expect. After being buzzed in and walking up the stairs to enter the gallery, I was pleasantly surprised. The gallery is small (apartment unit small). I was the only visitor which I loved. I hate looking at art in a crowded area. The works of art were interesting and got me thinking. I recently went to see My Kind Of Magic exhibition which I LOVED. It was thought provoking and visually stimulating.
The amount of art they display is a manageable amount. You don’t feel overwhelmed and you can take your time and really take it all in on a casual afternoon within a short period of time.

The Useless exhibit was interesting, if a bit small. I liked the big useless web in the corner. And the big misshapen useless chair in the middle.
The opening reception was very packed and fun (thanks for the free wine, Project 4!). But it got really hot in there — not sure if the a/​c was broken or what, but this wouldn’t be the ideal climate-​controlled environment for fragile art.

My friend was interested in seeing the current exhibit after I told him about the Useless exhibit that’s opening next week. We spent more time finding parking than we did at the gallery. It’s teeny but it’s a great space. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the current exhibit — Building. It was not at all what we were expecting and it was totally over our heads.
I came here last night for the opening reception of Useless. It was rather crowded because their was an event but the works were very impressive. I’m so glad I got to see the overstuffed chair. My favorite was the bright green plastic tricycle with the bright yellow plastic bike pump. The exhibit goes through September I think so stop by if you’re on U street and you have 15 minutes to browse the exhibit.

Stopped by Project 4 for the opening reception of Navigable Zones by Puerto Rican artist Nayda Collazo-​Llorens on Saturday night. An easy walk from Dupont Circle and also just a short distance from the U Street/​African-​Amer Civil War Memorial/​Cardozo Metro stop, the Project 4 Gallery is an intimate two-​level space where you’re sure to get cozy with your fellow art-​gawking patrons. Should the temperatures be high, dispense with superfluous layers of clothing immediately or prepare to sizzle!
If Saturday night’s opening reception is any indication of the crowd, expect to see hipsters (young and old), artists, an overt intellectual or two and a healthy representation of the petite bourgeoisie. Regardless of outward appearances, folks here are friendly and unstuffy. A welcome thing in the world of art, to be sure.

Project 4 is a trendy new gallery that recently popped up on U Street. The artists that are on display here skew towards international and avant-​guard, and of course, contemporary in style. The overall goal of Project 4 is to explore cultural subjects.
You’ll most likely find one person shows or a «theme» show by no more than 2 – 3 artists here. For example, the current exhibition features 2 artists. One of them paints watercolors while the other is a photographer that specializes in overexposed black and white.
