Being thoroughly confused whether upstairs Rendezvous is Rendezvous or is it Dr. clock’s nowhere bar… Either way, i was here last friday for girls night and the vibe upstairs is completely different form downstairs. We had an amazing DJs spinning old school R&B and Hip Hop– perfect for the feel of the bar. There were a few tables enjoying Hookah while we were sitting at the bar. Teh service is hit or miss, since only one person works it and they’re running off paper tabs. There are happy hours all night! $ 3 rail shots, $ 5 top shelf shots, $ 10 yuengling and jamo and $ 6 natty boha plus rails spot… this is seriously a gem in Admo. it’s a dive bar but not pretentious. Awesome friday night music, no cover and is quiet enough to have conversations. Great start to a girls night!

A chilled spot for a chilled night. Hookah is good, runs from $ 10 solo to $ 152 people. Their drink specials are every night $ 3 rail drinks and $ 5 Firebombs. A few firebombs and you’re straight for the night. This is my second time being here & I’d definitely come back again. The services is warm and welcoming. I like it better then most of the hookah spots on the strip. I’ll definitely come back again.

After getting some unfortunately bad service over at Soussi’s(more of a one-time deal than a standard over there), my friends and I took the few steps over to satisfy our hookah urge at Rendezvous. I wouldn’t call Rendezvous a hopping place(especially on a random weekday evening), so it was pretty easy to snag a few seats on their patio and enjoy a few beers and some flavored tobacco. I wouldn’t say anything was bad… beers were fine, hookah was fine… it was just a typical, dive bar. You probably won’t see too much of the standard AdMo patrons here, Rendezvous seems more like a locals bar than anything else. So would I come back? In a pinch, sure. But it won’t be my go-to hookah place or hangout.

The downstairs bar is now a tiki bar called DC Tiki! Lots of reasonably priced tiki drinks and local craft beers! A fun music vibe and sports on the TVs.

Yeah they have hookahs. Yeah they have some outdoor seating. Yeah they have good drinks(ask for Van upstairs). Yeah they have good music sometimes. That being said, there is nothing much more that is special to this place. So many good qualities, but it falls short of bringing them together somehow.

Decided to wander Adams Morgan this Saturday in an effort to find some less-than-typical-AdMo spots in my new neighborhood. In this regard Rendezvous totally ruined my plan, because we wound up never leaving! My friend wanted some hookah, so we stopped in on a whim. The place was mostly empty(it was only around 9pm, it filled up later), so we easily got a small table for the two of us and ordered a hookah with some drinks. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, this place isn’t necessarily earth-shatteringly amazing, but it was exactly what we wanted and thus had a wonderful time. The crowd was fairly laid-back, service was decent, prices were good, hookah was decent. I’d definitely come back when I just want to hang out and grab a couple of drinks. The poetry in the bathroom is… interesting, as well. The only bad thing was that it was absolutely freezing inside. We noticed that the women who work there were all in jackets and scarves, so it wasn’t just us. I think it’s because the entire front is glass doors, which don’t insulate well at all. However, I’d bet that it’s really nice in slightly warmer weather.

Review #2…I’m really getting into this Unilocaling thing. I first moved to DC in ’99. I don’t remember exactly why I stepped into Rendezvous, but it instantly became one my favorite spots in DC. It’s close enough to Adam’s Morgan without being in the middle of the insanity and it doesn’t seem to attract some of the orange and blue liners that can drive me crazy. The interior is simple with some nice edge, from scattered antique radios to vinyl album covers. The drink menu is straight forward(i.e., 5 or so bottled beers), which I can appreciate under the tyranny of choice and times of places like Churchkey. The place hosts a variety of DJs that seem to come and go, just as do the small clicks of people that frequent the place. People seem to discover this place, embrace it for a few months and then move on. That’s a comment on people, not the place. It’s is run by Belli and if you get to know her, she makes a good friend. I’ve hosted multiple parties at this place – including a halloween party and a ’09 inauguration party. Belli makes it very easy. She typically sets a revenue minimum and as long as you hit that, there isn’t a charge for the space. A DJ has always been included as well – although I’ve opted for a custom playlist via my iPod on a few occasions. They let you plug right into their soundboard and system. Michael typically tends the bar upstairs. He can be a little light handed on the mixed drinks, but everything about this place makes up for it in my opinion. I haven’t visited in a few months. I’ll make a return a 2010 resolution. You should too.

This bar is a great place to hear a cool DJ. A dude named DJ Clutch has been there a few times when I’ve been in the house, and other times Mojo Jones. Also– Rendezvous has comedy improv nights with no cover. The drink specials here are great too. This place is on the small side but, thankfully, does not get as crowded as say.18th Street. There are two floors here to hang out on one of the comfy vintage couches. Rendezvous’s vibe can change from night to night depending on whether it is a DJ night or Improv night. What doesn’t change is the chill atmosphere. which is nice to find in a hood where some barhoppers act too cool for the room.

I love this bar. I’m here practically every friday. The drinks are cheap, the enviornment is really chill, and the music is great. Everyone’s so friendly here, from the bartender to the DJ. There are comfy couches to lounge on and it’s never crowded. I’m not exactly sure what kind of music they play… I think it’s deep house. This is a great place to relax after a long week.
