This property is gorgeous, but not technically a dog park. The fence is not really a legit fence — more a decorative wood fence(three stripes of wood) through which dogs could jump. That being said, dogs playing in a group are not likely to sway. Cons include mandatory on leash daily hours and the fee($ 150/first year), especially in light of Rock Creek Park fields and other(fenced) dog parks right down the street. Pros: Really nice group of people(though a few«in charge» who are pretty intense and protective of property. It’s also a great group of dogs — well taken care of, not aggressive and out for exercise.

I LOVE this park but more importantly my dog is crazy about this park. This property in the middle of Cleveland Park(on Newark almost all the way to Wisconsin Ave) and used to be the property of a local non-profit. When they sold the property they neighborhood bought it and sold the back part of it and made the front of the property public in perpetuity. It is hilly, green, there are trees… it is beautiful. It is not just a dog park but just a nice park to hang out in. It is totally fenced in so it is a great dog park. I love the«dog desert in Columbia Heights» but this is paradise. You need to pick up after your dog like everywhere else but there are not trash cans so you need to take it with you. With trash cans everywhere that is really not too much of a problem. Well, here comes the catch… you have to become a member and pay an annual dog fee. Right now(2012) it is $ 100 member fee and then a $ 50 dog fee. It’s a charitable contribution so it is tax deductable. I know there are enough free dog parks, but to me it is worth it given that it is less than 3 miles from my house so I can walk over there. And it is beautiful, clean and quiet… Cannot drive out to the Shirlington dog park ever day, right!!!
